I am happy for them. laugh
Had to laugh at the news last night when the commentators were discussing what the girl's duties would be going forward. She would have been less than a couple hours old!

Beautiful choice of names and so glad they chose to remember Diana.

I like all three names, as well. Alice was my favorite of all the supposed front runners, so too bad they didn't sneak it in. When you've already got a whole slew of names, what's one more?

Maybe they're saving Alice for the next one... wink

So, she's a baby, she looks healthy, she sleeps well, and her mother shocked the world by going home a few hours after giving birth looking as though she was off to open a school or greet a visiting prime minister. All's well there then.

Though I am a bit upset that one of the Revenge of the Llamas' name choices didn't get picked; we thought the Empress Waltzin' Matilda had a nice ring to it. grin

:), love it.

As for you Sara, I did give a giggle when they announced Charlotte knowing how you loath it. smile

Did you have a horribly bratty classmate named Charlotte when you were a child, Ren? Knowing a not-so-nice person with a particular name is usually a guarantee that one will hate the name forever! ;-)

You are close. I have taught just too many bratty Charlottes!

Interesting. After thinking about it, I don't think I've ever taught a Charlotte. Must be too old-fashioned here in the U.S. I've had a jillion Jennifers and Danielles though!

I think if the name Diana had been rejected by Queen Elizabeth II that there would have been a lot of backlash.

Besides, wasn't Charlotte the nice spider that saved Wilbur's life multiple times? smilee

My niece is a Charlotte and has never been a brat. The only problem is that I sometimes text her to see when she'll be free for a phone call (she works full time and studies and has a social life) by saying "When will the Good Lady Charlotte of the House of Surname be available to take a call." Now I'll have to call her Princess...

Dave, the Queen didn't have the right to reject the name, she didn't even have to be informed before the rest of us were - telling her first was just a courtesy William paid to his grandmother, of whom he is said to be very fond.

Why was Annabel rejected near 8/8/88? That is what Prince Andrew wanted to name Beatrice, and it was squelched.

I think you mean Prince Andrew.
I looked up Charlotte:'
charlotte

noun
a pudding made of stewed fruit with a casing or covering of bread, sponge cake, biscuits, or breadcrumbs.

My niece Charlotte's sibling is a boy, but when their mother was expecting the second child, she thought of girl's names in case it was another girl. She thought of Chelsea but couldn't bear the thought of having apple Charlotte and Chelsea bun as her children. wink

I'm wondering if the Middletons will get a chance to have any of Kate's children named after their side of the family.

Since when is that blog an authoritative source? (Since when am I...) That's the first time I've heard that story and it would certainly have been floated around over the years had there been any foundation to it. It wouldn't surprise me if some courtier/royal official had said "Annabel? Isn't that a night club?" but while Sarah Ferguson might have been that (libel laws prevent me using the word) in the first place, I can't imagine Arrogant Andrew giving his child the same name as a drinking club with a reputation. Imagine the headlines: "Drugs found in Annabel's...", "Police search Annabel's..." nah, not even Sarah Ferguson could think that was okay.

But seriously... if the Queen was going to veto names, how did Eugenie get through? Zara anyone?

Both Kate's mother, Carole, and Kate, herself, have Elizabeth as a middle name, so it's been carried on to the next generation.

The Los Angeles Times is no blog...and they have a story.

Ahh...the key word is "Tabloid!" Of course, everything we read in the papers and on the internet is always true! Why, just last week I had to kill that giant spider from the Middle East that was hiding under my toilet seat at the airport!

If the Sun said it it MUST be true! I read somewhere that Kate and Will used a surrogate mother for this child and that Kate wore padding to make it look as if she was pregnant, I am sure that was true too as someone printed it.

The Queen doesn't choose names for grandchildren or great grandchildren, although I am not in the circle which would know, that just isn't the sort of thing that happens.

And according yo a guy on the TV news last night (if it's on the telly, it must be true), Charlotte is also the middle name of Kate's sister Pippa.
