I heard this question as a "random fact of the day" yesterday on a local radio station. The question seems very flawed to me. First, there must be more than one. Second, how are 'food' and 'spoil' defined?

I've seen this question come up in many quizzes and it's alway bothered me. What's the best answer and why? (I've only seen one given, but I'd love to hear responses from those who've never heard the question)

Can anyone else think of other questions that seem to come up over and over again only to spark debate?

Since this question bothers you, how do you define 'food' and 'spoil' and does this not seem to apply to the answer in question, in your opinion?

Yes, I know the answer that is given. I've also read that it does spoil. It takes a heck of a long time, but it doesn't keep in perfect condition for thousands of years.

There are two main variations of this food - it's always called the same, it is the same, but the form varies. When I was a child I liked one sort, my mother preferred the other but she had an advantage over me - if she left the sort I liked in the back of the larder for, say, a year it would change its state to be more like the sort she preferred but it never worked the same way in reverse so she might get a double helping. Either way, she said it tasted the same and it had all the same beneficial properties so it can't be said to have spoiled. Changed yes, spoiled no.

And then there's the sort which I think I may have in the loft at present. I'd go up there to check but I don't like heights and I also don't want to be attacked by the manufacturers.
