One of our team members keeps getting a virus infection when he signs into FT. Any advice? Please explain or point me to this person? Must be some problem with their machine. That's kind of what I figured. His username is pyedpiper. As he tells it, it's only when he goes to the FT page that the virus strikes again. He called it the Zeus virus, but a) I don't know how he knows, and b) he didn't say what the symptoms were.

I'd suspect that pyedpiper has left his machine on without a reboot in a while. I have encountered some Zeuses (there are many versions) that warn that turning the system off will cause password info to be stolen. Ignore - it's a fake threat. My reasoning is: 1) Zeus is a Trojan Horse. That means it has two parts, the promise and the turn. Many anti viral pkgs see the promise and disallow the turn (meaning there's an offer and you're safe if you don't accept it but if you do, the real virus is unleashed). 2) Anti-malware can often leave the invitation on a page or site memory screen (since it does no real harm being there). Once you refresh the Page, Tab or system 'promise tag will go away. just turn off and on and see if the warning goes away. It's akin to a bit of Junk email. It sits in your in-file containing the bad demon seed but does no harm if unopened. Delete the email and the demon is gone with the notice and without damage. Rebooting/refreshing is similar to deleting the email. For info about Zeus, see here. But I'm not the expert that Terry may be so exercise caution. I don't think a reboot will cause harm though. And if allowed, a revert to the system condition prior to the appearance of the Zeuss can't hurt.

It appears he got something called Zeus malware on his machine, and when he visits our site (and I suspect others), it tries to scam him. https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/10422-you-have-a-zeus-virus-scamHe must have picked it up from a download somewhere, or some browser bug that allowed for a stealth upload. Please forward him to that link.

Terry, a member on Facebook has posted that they can't get to the site. Will you take a look there? Thanks.

Two of our team members (maryjdonohoe57 and izzy50) are having problems, not connecting, but staying connected to the site. It has been going on for about 4 days now.
Here is what maryjdonohoe57 says: I got knocked out of fun trivia 3 times tonight....The question I am answering freezes then it keeps running and running. I try to get back on and can't so I close the page and it says something about they can't connect to fun Trivia. I go on another website and everything is fine. After awhile I'm not sure how long it comes back. I don't know what it is wrong. It happens on both Google and Mozilla....happening in the Dual and the Global Challenge...I noticed it happens after I do 2 or 3 quizzes. After I finish I click for the score but instead of the score coming up it keeps running and then the timed out message shows up. It takes quite sometime before I can get back on.... happened again, while I was playing the Who Am I Quiz, so I guess it doesn't matter what I am playing. It freezes for a moment that it keeps running on connecting and then the timed out message pops up. ...now I can't even do a question or two
Here is some additional things izzy50 noticed: ...tried going on the forum, but as I get kicked out after a minute or so its not enough time to post the issue...
Hope someone can help them soon...

A workaround I came up with that seems to have worked for one player: It looks to be a spurious network issue that affects a small percentage of our users, but there's no real pattern.
You can try using a proxy (which essentially acts as a deviation for your requests and data) - google "how to choose http proxy" to get instructions for your browser type.
I found and briefly tested a server at IP 207.99.118.74 port 8080. (You'll need that data to enter it in your settings).
This may be a bit slower overall but has a good chance to get around the outages if they occur. Don't forget to set your configuration back to normal after playing!

Terry, izzy50 got a message from you, but says it is still going on - he can post a little, but gets still kicked out of the games...

Current working theory is that anti-virus program "Avast" has a bug in it that is interfering with FunTrivia's connection (and other random websites). https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=200890.0The suggestion is to try turning off port scan until they fix their bug: Avast UI -> Protection -> Firewall -> Settings -> Advanced -> Uncheck "Enable automatic port scan detection" Please give that a try and let me know if it works.

There are good news from izzy50. For now maryjdonohoe57's connection is working with the proxy for now, will try the port scan setting when she gets a helping hand, chances are she will be fine.
Thanks for everything, Terry and Wes!
