I have a question. I have a quiz in a cateogory, and i was sent a msg about a mistake i made, but the person who sent me the correction notice is not one of the cateogory editors for that cateogory. My question is, can other members, that are not the cateogory editors, send you correction notice, if there should be a correction. I corrected my mistake, I was just wondering.

TeenyTigger, there are two different kinds of editors. There are category editors and universal editors. The category editors are restricted to the category or categories that they are assigned to. While the universal editors, while they have categories of their own, can and do edit in other categories, especially if other categories are backed up. This is not done all the time, but when the category editors need help with the volume of quizzes, we ask the universal editors to help.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Hello, in answer to your question, yes they certainly can. We have universal editors who can help out in any category we have. This means that when we need help in one area, they come and give us a hand.
This is probably why you got a notice from someone who was not the regular category editor.

It happened to me too. I submitted a quiz in the Music category, and LadyMacbeth sent me a correction notice. She wasn't an editor in this category so I wondered for a while, but I understood eventually that she was an "universal editor" and that she could submit quizzes online or reject quizzes even if they are not in the proper categories she's in.

What my co-editors say about universal editors is perfectly correct, teenytigger. It wasn't clear from your original post, though - was this correction notice just a message in your mailbox, flagged as a correction, or was it a note that your quiz had been taken offline? Only editors (category or universal) can take your quiz offline, but anyone can send a correction if they happen to notice that something's wrong with the quiz. The editors then review the correction note and decide whether the quiz should be pulled offline if the correction hasn't been made, or if the quizmaker has not explained why it isn't an error.

When a quiz gets a bunch of notices or someone doesn't respond to a notice, we have to take it offline until the person takes a look at it.
Beatles quizzes are notorious for these! I mean, certain music quizzes seem to just begin discussions and hair-splitting questions that end up taking the quiz offline.

I've had correction notices on a quiz of mine that 1000 or more people had taken! So that means that someone thought they had a better answer than the 1000 people preceding him or her.
So I just look and see if he or she might be right.
It's another reason to avoid doing fill in the blanks unless you're an experienced quizmaker and even then, to be used with caution.

Music folks, never use those for a line of lyrics. If we had five cents for every one we'd seen, we'd be rich.

I have something to add to this. If your quiz was played 101 times and then you received a correction on it, this person might not be an editor at all! If you play a quiz and your not an editor you can still submit a correction when your done with it. It's happened to me. I think this might be a little on what your talking about. teenytigger, kaib is right. One of my quizzes was played today (or yesterday) and they had noticed that one of my answers was slightly wrong. They can then submit a correction to the person who wrote the quiz. This is probably what happened to you. It was good you edited your quiz as this is what the editors are looking for and it'll make your quiz better in the long run. If you think you are right and the other person is wrong you can always reply to them with your reasons.

I sent a note back to the person who'd sent me my correction to say thanks and that I was sorry for the error. She then sent me a message back to say that it was really nice for someone to get back to her. I was really pleased. Sometimes good manners pay off!!!

See the person took my quiz got 10 out 10, and told me that the shape of soocer ball wasn't a circle, that the shape was a sphere, and i changed it, and i asked my dad if a soocer ball is a circle shape and he said yes. I did change it, i just don't know why the person would send me a correction notice about a question that he or she got right.

Not to change the subject but a soccer ball is a sphere, isn't it?
Because you're describing a circular object in one dimension, I can understand your father's advice, but in three dimensions, it certainly seems like a sphere to me. A globe is one, a bowling ball is one, so a soccer ball is a sphere in my book.
So the person knew what you meant by circular, and yet suggested you be more precise.
They got it right because there might not have been another reasonable answer available.
This is why many people take a quiz, get the answer right, yet the answer is either erroneous or leads people into trouble.

In my case, one of my answers required a military personnel name that contained the word ant, and so many people came up with a different solution that it went up to eight! I try to avoid these now, but at that time, I had no idea!
So the answer wasn't wrong, simply there were other answers that should have worked.

So sometimes people have to double guess the person who wrote the quiz, then don't bother sending a correction notice, and then, someone comes along and sends you one.
I'd rather have it sooner than later!

I reckon you meant two dimensions [Big Grin]
quote:
Because you're describing a circular object in one dimension.
if you draw a soccer ball on a piece of paper it's a circle (without shadowing), it you pick it up it's a sphere
