He's lovely, MiraJane. smile Plus I'm glad you made Photobucket work, at least for now...

And Howie, thanks for the St Vitus images - for some reason when we went to Prague we didn't go inside the cathedral. Lots of other churches, but not that one. I'm glad to see it now. smile

Following Chris's lovely examples, I was going to take some pics of roses today. It rained. A lot. cry

Now this is what I call a house, an estate of about ten in Frimley from the mid 60s

I love these photos - particularly Mira's Quentin and Christinap's Arum lillies. They reminded me of my mother. She had them growing in her garden. So lovely.

What makes something "an American type shop"?

Probably because it says 'proper hamburgers' in the sign - but those are European-style blinds over the pavement café and Byron is a British chain so perhaps Satguru will tell us. smile

Meanwhile, here's a yellow rose - but not from Texas. wink

I don't think I've ever seen a 'proper hamburger' shop in the U.S. (I've been to several that shouldn't be in business) And when you write blinds, are those what we would call awnings here?

Yes, awnings. I suppose they're awnings in the UK too - we need them to keep the rain out. smile

I can't say I know what a 'proper hamburger' is either, unless it's very, very polite, takes its hat off when greeting an older woman, and believes that cigars should only be smoked after dinner. wink

Thanks, Flopsy. We also moved to a new house before the trip so I barely had any time for FT. Glad to be back. smile

Antarctican, welcome to the photo forums - a new person with new pics is always welcome. smile

That's a nice picture of a bridge - I like the way you've lined it up and the Toronto skyline appearing under the span, very nice. But that snake... is it warning people not to get on top of the concrete? Only it doesn't seem to be working. wink

The snow got close to Timaru but not quite close enough. Of course, now we could be heading for a record cold temperature in Timaru early next week. Current forecast lows of -9 which is around the coldest ever here.

Whenever I watched American programmes on the TV I saw these flat roofed single story shops were the usual design in America while ours have flats above and nearly always have pitched rooves. These are rare exceptions here and every one I see gets its photo taken. I've got them going back to 1980 plus a small selection of real American ones I took in Miami.

Meanwhile here's my photo. Each one has to be located and posted individually on the Ordnance Survey map site. That's 109 last Sunday and about 100 this weekend. I have to use the long days while I can.

This is a roundabout under renovation in Bracknell, which I discovered are as rare in America as their design of shops are here.

There are places in America, New England in general (and New Hampshire in particular) where the city councillors think they are the best things since sliced bread. If I were attacking one in a Lotus Super 7 I might agree; in a Jeep - not so much.

Thank you for the welcome!

I'm not sure what that symbol means...I'll have to go back and check it out. Although if it has anything to do with real snakes, I'll be out of there so fast I may make the Olympic track team.

On another note, here's today's pic:

One of the dragonboats returning to the dock after a race at the Toronto International Dragonboat Festival (which is on today and tomorrow at the Toronto Islands)

Ah, I missed New England, but know they call them 'circles' instead of roundabouts. This is a solidly made old sign complete with stripy pre-1964 type pole, and a fine of 40/-, the money I grew up with till 1971.
