Wimbledon 2015

The "real" Grand Slam of the year kicks off on the beautiful green grass of Wimbledon from Monday, June 29.

Novak Djokovic will try to defend his title and will be looking to make up for his Roland Garros disappointment. Andy Murray and Roger Federer might want to have a say in the matters. Petra Kvitova will be back to defend her title as well, but Serena Williams is half-way to a calendar Grand Slam in 2015!

BxBarracuda and Dizart are our defending champions here, but gtho4 is half-way to a calendar grand slam here as well in the women's section (and looking to get out of 2 consecutive spoons in the men's section). A rejuvenated ozzz2002 could be a big threat to the whole field too smile

Sign up here if you'd like to be part of the fun. Tipping threads go up soon as the draws are announced.

Deadline for posting tips would be start of second round of play, Wednesday, July 1.

  • Serena Williams completed a "Serena Slam" for the second time in her very, very, very special career and should she go on to defend her title in the US Open in early September, she will become the first person since Steffi Graf in 1988 to complete a Calendar Grand Slam! Who's to say she can't add more slams to her kitty before she decides to call it a day...She's on 21 now, and Steffi Graf (22) and Margaret Court (24) could well be left behind by the time Serena is finished.
  • For the second Grand Slam in a row, NOT ONE OF US here picked Garbine Muguruza in any of our tips and the poor girl broke down during the presentation ceremony after the finals...she shed a tear and when asked by the presenter, said "I didn't know my game had that effect on the crowd" {she actually meant "not one of the Funtrivia people backs me to even make it to the last 8 crazy"} ....maybe we will do better at the US Open....
  • We had our poorest turn out in a Slam here since 2009 with only 9 people lodging tips, but importantly, a couple of them were gunning for some records....gtho4 came short after winning the women's sections of both the Australian and French Opens, but hey....we are suddenly looking at a very unique "Slam" now...Dizart has picked up a 3rd successive Spoon in the women's sections of the Slams this year ! Will his effort merit a place in the record books confused ?
  • But what of the podium itself? paper_aero was the only one to pick former finalist Agniezka Radwanska to even make it to the quarters (she finally lost in the semis) and it paid off most handsomely, as the Radwanska points were the final difference. paper can send a 'thank you' note to Radwanska.
  • Howie72, illiniman14 and N-Bomb all had identical picks all the way so the tie-breaker decided the final placings. Howie72's "perfect tie-break" score gives him the silver medal ahead of illiniman14 who fell one game short.
  • Congrats then to paper_aero, Howie72, illiniman14 (and Dizart in his own way) and commiserations especially to gtho4...he can still make it 3/4 at the US Open!

  • It was heartbreak at the final hurdle for a second year in a row for the fantastic Roger Federer frown After displaying sublime form for 2 weeks during which time his service was broken just once in 6 matches, Federer came unstuck when it mattered most....and for the first time since Federer himself defended his title back in 2007, a defending champion managed to retain his title at Wimbledon....Novak Djokovic wins his 3rd Wimbledon singles title...it was 5 sets between these 2 gentlemen last year, but Djokovic got the job done in 4 this time...
  • With 11 right picks out of a possible 15, you'd normally expect the tipster to clinch it here comfortably...Dizart and srini701 should have got it, but like in the women's section, one player was the trump here too, and Howie72 managed to land that trump....He has to explain here how in a quarter of a draw featuring 2 of last year's semifinalists (Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov) and a quarter finalist (Nick Kyrgios), he managed to pick Richard Gasquet to make it to the last 8 shocked
  • And so despite NOT picking Marin Cilic in his lot, or even having Federer go beyond the quarters, Howie72 managed to score more points through Gasquet to land the title for 2015 confused .... Dizart takes home the silver on a better tiebreak score and srini701 has to be content with the bronze.
  • After spoons in the men's section of both the previous Slams this year, gtho4 settled for a mid table position, leaving ozzz2002 in the cellar....
  • Congratulations then to Howie72, Dizart, srini701 and hoping to see a better turn out at the US Open (where are Sypher, BxBarracuda, George95, LeoDaVinci...regulars otherwise in Grand Slams here? frown )
