(This is a copy of a message I placed in The Commons. Since, at the moment, it's preventing one of your quizzes from going online, I wanted to make sure it was repeated in here.)
This is a request from an Administrator here. And, I know several of the moderators would agree.
There's really not much reason (unless I'm mistaken) to disable the ability to send you a Private Message. Hiding your email address may be useful - perhaps you don't want to broadcast that. But, PMs are something that are good for being able to contact you. (You get to them via the Private Message link at the top of your screen.)
I am currently trying to contact one of you. I have a message for you regarding one of your quizzes that I can't put online until a couple of minor corrections have been made. For some reason, the editing system isn't letting me send your quiz back the normal way. So, I thought I'd just send you a Private Message in here. But, you've diabled your PMs. I can't contact you, so your quiz will remain in the queue and won't be online! Sorry, but I've tried to do all I can to help you get this quiz online. Unless I can contact you, your quiz has to just sit there.
There are often other times that the administration/moderators need to get in touch with you for one reason or another. So, please don't disable our only way of contacting you privately.
