We're all following it in the office this morning. Each wicket loss greeted with further amazement. Most enjoyable.

I shouldn't, I really shouldn't... but the BBC has done a quick summary of social media comments so far... I shouldn't share it but... okay, you forced me!

Australia all out in 18.4 overs, the shortest first innings in Test history, the first time in Ashes cricket that extras top scored, only the fourth time that both teams have batted before lunch on the first day of a Test match. Australia humiliated.

Would you believe the Aussies are simply waiting for the odds of victory to reach 500-1 before lifting their game? (There would be a lot of pleasure in reversing that 34 year old debacle). No? I thought not.

Got to give you Aussies some credit, Mike - some of the wittiest comments in the media have come from Aussie sources. Like the suggestion that you open your next innings with Extras... although I think that the comment (I paraphrase) "this lot (the Aussie team) will all be claiming political asylum after this" came from a Pom. smile

I seem to remember that this English team, with minor variations, got laughed out of Oz not so long ago. What goes round... your turn will come again. Though I hope not yet!

I switched it off at 3/14. It was unbearable; and horrible.

I remember well the 1989 Ashes tour. I have an allergy which rarely plays up but for the Old Trafford test, it flared up and I had to have a week off sick as I couldn't work. I felt fine though smile I rather enjoyed watching every minute of the Old Trafford test, seeing the Aussies win the Ashes after a few dismal seasons. This year, I'm rather glad I've been well enough to work night duty and miss it all! Some pass the tissues, please? *sniff*
