N-Bomb's lead is cut into somewhat by George95 as the latter gets a near perfect bonus (along with Dizart) and is now 6 points behind first place. Those two will in all likelihood be in the top 2 spots at the end of the comp, as George95 is 7 points separated from 3rd place. Seven tippers are within 5 points of 3rd place, so the last podium spot is still up for grabs.
The College Football Playoff is officially set, and there were no shockers that really shook up the standings. #1 Clemson played very evenly with #10 North Carolina for the first half, but then opened up to a 35-16 lead in the 3rd quarter. They traded touchdowns again, and UNC tried to catch up late, but Clemson held on to finish the year as the only 13-0 team. That last statement is correct because #4 Iowa fell to #5 Michigan State in what was the game of the weekend. Neither team scored a touchdown until Iowa connected for an 85-yard strike at the start of the 4th quarter. Down 13-9 with 9:31 left, Michigan State put together a drive for the ages. Using an epically methodical gameplan, the Spartans converted on 5 third downs, only failing once - which they then converted on fourth down. After 22 plays and over 9 minutes of possession, they drove it into the end zone and went up 16-13, where it would stand, sending Michigan State into the playoffs as the #4 seed.
The other spots were taken by an idle #3 Oklahoma and #2 Alabama, who had no trouble in dispatching #18 Florida.
The big shock was that Texas was able to finish off the season with a win despite being 20-point underdogs against #19 Baylor on the road. Another shocker was that Georgia State, fighting for a bowl game against 21-point favorite Georgia Southern, not only beat the spread; not only won the game; but in fact would have beaten the 21-point spread if they had been the favorite, winning 34-7. In the late game of this extended week, Army very nearly pulled off another upset, but Navy hung on to win the 14th consecutive time against their rival 21-17.

N-Bomb has another solid week and is all but guaranteed the gold. The same goes for George95 and the silver, up 5 points in that spot. The fight for bronze will be interesting, as there are 4 tippers within 2 points of each other. dg_dave holds the slight 1-point edge over Sypher and gtho4, and 2 points over Dizart. All three behind him would be 1 point back, but Dizart only took 1 underdog (Duke) and was therefore ineligible for the perfect pick bonus as he picks up a win. Sypher did pick up the bonus point as he also notched a weekly win. wwe84 and ozzz2002 took the brunt of the first half of bowl season with a spoon for each.
The battle for Utah took place in Nevada this year. If you turned it off after the first quarter (and nobody would blame you), you saw Utah score 35 unanswered points and thought they were well on their way to victory. They would not score again, however, and BYU crawled back to 35-28, but couldn't make a stop on the last drive, allowing the clock to run out. The Camellia Bowl provided a completed comeback, as Ohio held a 24-7 lead going into the 4th quarter. They then allowed a touchdown to Appalachian State, and threw interceptions on consecutive drives, both followed by touchdowns themselves, and they were down 28-24 within 2 minutes of game time. The Bobcats scratched the lead back with a safety and field goal to go up 29-28, but a field goal for Appalachian State as time expired gave them the 31-29 victory.
Who can figure out Georgia Southern? The same team that lost by 27 as a 21-point favorite in the last week of the season came into the first half of the bowls an underdog by more than a touchdown, and came out a 31-point victor against Bowling Green. Both teams lost their head coaches (GSU's coach went to Tulane and BG's coach went to Syracuse), so maybe that explains their uneven performances.
Of the three bigger matchups in this part of bowl season, only one gave us a good game. Navy had no trouble dispatching Pittsburgh early. California's Jared Goff crushed Air Force with 6 touchdown passes. However, Baylor, having lost their starting QB late in the season, faced a North Carolina team who was a win away from being considered for the College Football Playoff. Baylor averaged 326 rushing yards per game this year, but exploded for 645 on their way to a 49-38 victory, which was contested more than the score may seem.

N-Bomb wins this comp going away - congratulations! This is really no surprise, as it was really won in week 13, when he jumped out from a 3 point lead to a 9 point lead, and over the course of the next 3 weeks only surrendered one point to the field. His margin of victory is easily the largest in this comp's history, with the previous best being Howie72's 4-point win in 2012.
George95 had some threats for the silver before the end of the regular season, but he put that to bed with a near perfect week and coasted through the bowl season for second place. The real battle happened in third, where for the third consecutive year dg_dave comes away with the bronze. He and gtho4 were tied at the end of the season, and also tied in HoF-spoon differential, but dg_dave had 1 more weekly win, giving him third place yet again. Sypher was 1 point away from taking bronze since he had a better differential with 7 wins and no spoons. Dizart was in the thick of it and in fine competitive fashion went all out, picking several games differently than those around him, but too many went the other way.
Five tippers ended the year spoonless, including George95, who is now up to 4th place all time for consecutive weeks without a spoon (accounting for gtho4's current FT-PL streak), as he has never had a spoon in this comp since he started playing in 2011 for a total of 82 weeks. George95 will be able to beat ozfei's current 94-week record next year.
Many of these late bowls were good matchups on paper, but ended up being blowouts. It was especially true for the College Football Playoff semifinal games. #1 Clemson found themselves an underdog despite going 13-0 in the regular season against #4 Oklahoma, and that prediction looked to be accurate at halftime, with the Sooners up 17-16. However, an opening drive touchdown put Clemson up for good, solidified by 2 more touchdowns and sending them to the National Championship Game for the opportunity to become the first FBS team to go 15-0. They will be joined by #2 Alabama, who also played a relatively even half with #3 Michigan State 10-0, but then blew the doors off the Spartans with 21 3rd quarter points as they rolled to a 38-0 victory.
The last 2 games of the regular bowl season provided an excellent end. The final game featured an offensive explosion between West Virginia and Arizona State, as the two were in a seesaw battle until the Mountaineers finally stopped the Sun Devils late in the 4th and won 43-42. But the game that to talk about was just before that, which is a surprise if you turned it off at halftime. If you did, you saw Oregon go up 31-0 in the first half while TCU stumbled around without their starting QB, who was suspended from the team after being arrested for striking a police officer after he snuck out past curfew a few days earlier. TCU kicked a field goal on their opening drive, made a stop, and scored a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, they forced a fumble and scored another touchdown. Now down only 14, they kicked another field goal and scored yet another touchdown followed by a trick play 2-point conversion. A field goal with seconds to spare sent the game to overtime 31-31. Oregon finally got off the snide by matching TCU's first OT touchdown, and then they traded field goals in the second OT. TCU scored again but failed the mandatory 2-point conversion in the 3rd OT, but that didn't matter as they forced a stop on 4th down to win 47-41.
Thanks to everybody for a great season, and I hope to see everyone (and hopefully more) back next year!
