. Apart from the five who scored 4/5 everyone else was either a winner or collected a wooden spoon. It's back-to-back wins for ozzz2002 and gtho4 and back-to-back spoons for Sypher.
There was little movement between the previous round & this one, except that we spread out a bit more .. ozzz2002 again scores two bonus points, gtho4 extends his lead out front by a point to 3 pts, and the ten players following are now separated by 5 pts (previously 3 pts).
New highs: no-one.
New lows : ditto.
There were six games were the number of common picks were in double digits. We hit pay dirt with just three and struck out with the loss at home by CSKA Moscow (solo pick by gtho4), Manchester United were held to a draw at home (solo picks by ozzz2002 and ElfTwinkle), and FC Astana didn't lose at home (draw was a solo pick by ozzz2002 & srini701, and dg_dave picked a home win).
Each team has one more group match to play, to see who progresses to the KO Round. For the nine teams that have already qualified, the last group match is effectively a dead rubber: Real, PSG, Atletico, Benfica, Juventus, Manch City, Barca, Bayern and Zenit (a total of 16 teams will progress). |

. Wolfsburg and PSV are through to the next round. They join these six teams: Real, PSG, Atletico, Benfica, Juventus and Manch City (these six had already qualified with a game to spare).
The 8-0 scoreline Real v Malmo equals the record set by Liverpool 8 years ago, when they beat Besiktas 8-0 on 7th Nov 2007. Cristinao Ronaldo scored four of Real's goals, to take his tally to eleven, which set a new record for goals scored in the group stage. The previous record was nine goals, set two years ago by Cristiano Ronaldo himself in the 2013-14 competition; it was equalled by Luiz Adriano last year playing for Shakhtar Donestk.
There was high drama in the two matches at Eindhoven and Wolfsburg. When PSV went behind 0-1 at home in the 76th minute and Manch United were still losing 1-2 away, Manch United were set to progress through the group stage to the next round. Two minutes later PSV equalized and then Manchester Utd equalised four minutes after that (82nd minute). As both games were draws, Manch United would still go through to the next round (LH table below), if the scores remained as they were at 1-1 and 2-2.
Manch Utd conceded a goal in the 84th to go behind and, even though they were then tied with PSV (RH table), they were still through, on a countback (whoever scored the most away goals in their group matches), as MU had scored four away and PSV has scored twice away.

But it wasn't to be. PSV scored in the 86th minute, which meant Manch United now needed two goals in the last four minutes to progress. It didn't happen & they were out of the Champions League (see below for final group standings). That's a quick and short summary. LeoDaVinci, a Manch United supporter, can fill in the blanks with better particulars.
This winner of this round is N-Bomb with picks of 7/8. He missed the draw at Galatasary, which were solo picks by ozzz2002 and srini701 .. they collected a bonus point each for those outrageous picks (the away win was picked by dg_dave). Back-to-back weekly wins by N-Bomb see him jump up into 2nd place, replacing PaulE, which pushes paper_aero off the podium.
There was little movement in the standings .. gtho4 retains his 3 pt lead out front, and the seven following are still separated by 3 pts.

The remaining eight matches in the other four groups will be played tonight, or tomorrow morning, depending on your time zone. Barca, Bayern and Zenit are already through. Those remaining eight matches will determine which five join those three. |

. It's a repeat. This round's winner and wooden spooner are the exact same two as the previous round. For N-Bomb that makes it three back-to back wins, and for ElfTwinkle it's three spoons over the last six rounds.
The last round of group matches sees absolutely no change in the standings among the first nine, and very little from there onwards.

Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Zenit St Petersburg had already qualified out of the group stage for the next round, with game to spare. The five teams to join them were:
AS Roma: were held to a draw at home but went through on GD.
Arsenal won away against Olympiakos to progress (a draw would have seen Olympiakos through).
Dynamo Kiev won, which meant Porto had to beat Chelsea away. They lost and Dynamo went through.
Chelsea had to win to progress, and they did.
KAA Ghent: If Valencia won and Ghent didn't they were through. Valencia lost and Ghent went through by beating the leaders Zenit.
See tables x4 at the bottom of this post for the final group standings Group E to Group H.
The draw for the KO Round (aka Round of 16, the round before the quarters), will take place on Monday at 1100hrs GMT. The eight group winners are in one pot (and thus avoid each other) and the eight runners-up are in the other pot, with three riders (instead of the usual two), being teams from the
o same group
o same country
o Ukraine & Russia
cannot face each other in the Round of 16 (sometimes aka the KO Round).
That's 12 of the 19 rounds completed. The remaining seven are: KO x2 legs, quarters x2, semis x 2 plus the final. We now have a break over winter until next year, when the KO Round starts on Tuesday 16th February 2016.

. Welcome back after the winter break. Dizart returns well-rested after a fortnight in the Bahamas, lying under palm tree drinking pina coladas. He's this round's winner with a perfect 8/8. The last perfect pick was two years ago; and it was by Dizart. PaulE missed the first game but picked all the remaining seven games for a score of 7/8.
srini701 collected his first wooden spoon with 2/8.
We've now had five perfect picks over the last five years in this comp, and three of them have been by Dizart. He's the first with three since this comp started way back in 2003. ElfTwinkle and N-Bomb have each scored two perfects.

. Nothing much happened in this round. We were in unanimous 14-0-0 agreement for ½ the card of 8 games. As three of them ended up as upsets, we hit pay dirt with just one of them! The first game, Real v Roma.
illiniman14 collected his 1st wooden spoon with 2/8, there were four weekly winners with 4/8 (wwe84 scored his first) and, as the rest of us all had 3/8, there were no changes out front and very little elsewhere. The three podium spots are still separated by a single point and the gap back to 4th was shaved from 4 pts to 3 pts.
The last time illiniman14 collected a wood spoon was in wk 13 of the 2013-14 comp, which adds up to a run of 38 spoon-less weeks.

Our advance picks for the semis and final are in the post above this one. Four players have lost one of their semi-finalists (the rest of us have a complete set of four live ones). The elimination of Arsenal saw ozzz2002 lose his winner and one of his finalists (the rest of us have a complete set of three live).
Most of us were looking at a major wipeout with our advance picks when the score in Munich was 0-2 inside half and hour & was still 0-2 with 17 minutes to go. Bayern got one back in the 73rd and then equalised in the first minute of injury time. The ref blew full-time two minutes later and the tie went into extra time (the first leg had also finished 2-2). Bayern won the game 4-2 aet to progress to the quarters.
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place at 1100 hrs GMT on Thursday 17th March.

. Unlike the previous round, where nothing much happened, this round saw Howie72 and ozzz2002 collect 5 bonus pts between them and smother the three in front of them. We now have a triple dead-heat out front .. with the next two players just one point in arrears.
The five out front have put 4 pts between themselves and the rest of the field. It's now a five-way battle for all three spots on the podium.
Three games were picked by no-one but ozzz2002 picked the remainder of the card to score the weekly win, solo, with picks of 5/8 .. one of his two bonus points was for an outrageous solo pick of a draw at full-time in Paris, PSG v Manch City.
There were five wooden spoons awarded for picks of 2/5 .. for paper_aero it was his first of the season.
Unlike the previous round (when we had none), there were a mammoth 13 bonus pts this round. LeoDaVinci scored his first bonus point for the season, leaving N-Bomb and Sypher as the only players with a blank in that column.

. After a round of upsets, we have a runaway: PaulE. He scores the weekly win with 6/8 .. the two he missed were the win at FT by Atletico and the HT draw at Benfica.
He scored two bonus points for two outrageous, but astute, solo picks: Atletico leading at HT + the FT draw at Benfica. He scored yet another bonus for a near miss (no-one picked the FT win by Atletico v Barcelona , PaulE and four others picked a draw (aka Barca to not win).
Add all of that up and it means the triple dead-heat out front is gone, whooshka. PaulE is now all alone out front, with a mouth-watering margin of 6 pts over Howie72, ozzz2002 & gtho4 (in a three-way tie for 2nd place). N-Bomb sits a point behind them in 5th .. from there there's a large gap of 4 pts to George95 in 6th place; aka 11 pts behind the leader).

N-Bomb and Sypher are still looking for their first bonus points.
The loss on aggregate 2-3 by Barcelona has knocked the stuffing out of most of us, as a lot of our advance picks have been torn to shreds. Their elimination means no-one has a complete set of four semi-finalists, George95 is the only player who still has two live picks for the finalists, and just three players have a live pick for the winner!
The three of them have picked different winners - Howie72 has Bayern, wwe84 has Manchester City and George95 has Real. See the post above this one for a complete list.
Three of the four semi-finalists have been here before. It's a first for Manchester City. Should Bayern and Atletico win their semis, the final will be a re-run of the 1974 final, when Bayern won 4-0 after a replay. Should Real and Atletico win their semis, it will be a re-run of the 2014 final, which Real won 4-1 aet.
The draw for the semis will take on Friday at 1030 hrs GMT. It will be an interesting semi-final if Manchester City are drawn to play Bayern, as the Bayern manager is moving to England at the end of the season, to replace the Manch City manager: bbc.com.
The first leg of the semis will be played at the end of the month: UEFA ( 17 ) Tue 26th April, From there we have just two rounds to the finish post: the second legs a week later and the final on the last Saturday in May. |

. George95 collects his 2nd weekly win in four weeks and climbs up into 5th, a new personal high. He scored a perfect 4/4 for the two semis and 2/4 with his advance picks, plus a bonus point for a solo pick. It was the only bonus point of the round.
PaulE is still leading the way .. he's 5 points in front with just two rounds left. The battle for silver and bronze has taken a new twist .. the five players running 2nd to 6th are now separated by a mere 2 pts (it was 5 pts last week and 6 pts the week before).

The Champions League Final will be an all-Spain affair, local rivals Atletico and Real will play at the San Siro in Milan at the end of the month. George95 is the only player with a live pick for the final (Real Madrid).
PaulE should win this, as George95 needs a perfect 8/8 in the final round to get past him (and PaulE to bomb-out in the final round).

. PaulE collected a wooden spoon but has hung on to win this from the fast finishing George95, who scored yet another weekly win, his third in six weeks. Seven weeks ago he was 8 pts behind the leader in 7th place.
George95 was the only player with a live pick for the final (Real Madrid), and he hit pay dirt. He also collected a bonus point for a solo pick! Second place was his highest position for the season (previously fifth).
ozzz2022 collected bronze. He was the only player whose bonus points reached double digits.
Behind him was a triple dead-heat for 4th place: N-Bomb (who finished with zero bonus points), gtho4 (who collected the other wooden spoon, his first for the season) and Howie72.
N-Bomb had more weekly wins than the three on the podium, the best countback figures at +5 (gold & silver were next best at +3) and, ignoring bonus points, the most correct picks:
87 N-Bomb, 86 PaulE, 84 George95 & gtho4, 81 illiniman14 & Howie72.
Sypher was the other player to finish with zero bonus points.

This year's comp was the 13th edition of the ECL tipping comp. No-one has retained their title, and PaulE is the 3th person to win this twice (his first was in 2011). The other two are: gtho4 in 2005 & 2013, and Dizart in 2012 & 2014 .. doomed has won this three times (he won three of the first five, in 2004, 2006 & 2008).
