Thank you, I have been finding myself being very busy and not sleeping well so got behind. The lack of sleep meant any attempt to catch up on weeknights just was not working.

  • In week 7 Adelaide and Newcastle played out a goalless draw and they repeated it week 11 though they both hit the woodwork and the home team Jets managed 2 shots on target (2 more than the last time). Sydney dominated large periods of their match away to Wellington Phoenix and took the lead in the 84th minute only to concede an even later penalty and it finished even, they will be ruing their own penalty miss just after half time. In the 18th Melbourne derby it was City that came out on top over the Victory, it took an inspired performance from the City 'keeper to keep a dominant Victory at bay in the second half. It is City's 4th win in a row while the Victory's 4th loss in a row. Perth ended Western Sydney's 7 game winning streak with a thrilling 2-2 draw in Perth, it took a late goal from a former Glory player to snatch the draw for the Wanderers. Brisbane roared into Central Coast but emerged lucky winners after a superb late strike saw them score the only goal of the game, it could have been very different had the referee awarded a second yellow card to a Brisbane defender and sent him off but for some reason he decided there was no foul...I am not surprised at that considering what this same referee did (or did not do) in a match in week 12 but more of that in the next update.
  • None of us gave Perth Glory a chance to get anything from their match against the league leading Wanderers while Brisbane's win away to struggling Central Coast proved to be the easiest to tip though don't tell wwe84 and ozzz2002 that.
  • George95 managed to get 4/5 this week and earned himself a 3rd weekly win while ozzz2002 will be hiding after managing an impressive 0/5, his 5th spoon and second goose egg of the season to join paper-aero who also has 2.
  • N-Bomb maintains his comfortable lead after his spectacular display last week though it has decreased by a point to 4 points. At the bottom, ozzz2002 finds himself getting cast adrift as his spoon sees him now 4 points behind Sypher.

  • As expected Western Sydney accounted for Newcastle at home with a goal in each half but it was not without controversy when the scores were deadlocked, the referee awarding a free kick for hand ball against Newcastle when it was the Western Sydney defender that handled it and should have been a penalty. At the end it is Newcastle who have remained scoreless in their last 4 matches and lost their unbeaten record away to the Wanderers. The refereeing got decidedly worse in Adelaide's victory over Wellington, a number of horrendous decisions against the Phoenix that even the Australian commentators were left scratching their heads including two clear penalty claims, numerous trips and fouls being ignored and a sending off that changed the course of the match, Adelaide started to dominate and pulled away after being helped by the referee. Anyway, the third match of the round saw the match wrapped up in Sydney's favour by half time as two penalties and a sending off of the Central Coast goalkeeper saw the hosts jump out to a 3-1 lead, the Mariners now on a record 6 game losing streak but play the struggling Phoenix at home next. More controversy in the Melbourne Victory match with a dodgy penalty giving the Victory a lead, they should have had it sown up before Perth equalised with a penalty of their own. It sums up Melbourne Victory's December as they are now winless in the last 5 matches and are looking forward to the new year. In a open and attacking match it was second place Brisbane that triumphed over third place Melbourne City to end the visitor's 4 game winning streak.
  • Once again we achieved a strike rate of over 50% helped significantly by the perfect tips for the Western Sydney and Sydney wins, these accounting for 24 of the 33 correct tips.
  • Once again the weekly win was achieved with a score of 4/5, giving N-Bomb his competition leading 6th and srini701 his 3rd. A score of 2/5 saw a handful of spoons going to wwe84 (2nd), Howie72 (3rd), paper_aero (4th), George95 (4th) and Sypher (competition leading 7th in just 12 rounds).
  • N-Bomb increases his lead to 6 points, the biggest of the season with the next 5 separated by just 3 points. At the bottom, ozzz2002 closes the gap a little and is now 3 points behind Sypher.

  • For the second week in a row the Phoenix were on the wrong end of some horrendous refereeing decisions and terrible defending, this time the Central Coast Mariners were the beneficiaries for their first win in the last 7 matches. The first goal came from a wrongly awarded penalty when the Mariners striker kicked the back of the legs of the defender and fell over claiming a penalty. In the second half a blatant and vicious head butt on a Phoenix defended somehow did not result in a red card but a reluctant yellow card. Of course, the Mariners player claims an Oscar should be awarded to the Phoenix for acting but if you get a chance to see it....you can decide for yourself. The Phoenix will never win again until the referees show either less incompetence or less bias. Western Sydney and Adelaide played out an entertaining goalless draw with both sides feeling aggrieved after very good penalty claims were turned down. Brisbane accounted for Perth 2-1 at home and in doing so jumped to the top of the standings on goal difference over the Wanderers. An injury hit Melbourne City held on for another entertaining draw against Sydney but had to rely on one of the leagues top goal scorers of all time scooping the ball over the crossbar from a couple of yards out in the final seconds to earn their point. The Hunter Hoodoo is over for the Melbourne Victory as they eked out a valuable 1-0 win, their first in the last 6 years at the Hunter Stadium, Newcastle are now winless in their last 9 games.
  • George95 missed the first match but still managed to avoid a wooden spoon.
  • We did not quite achieve a 50% strike rate with 27/59 or 45.76%, this was despite 3 matches only getting 7 correct tips between them.
  • We all managed to predict Brisbane's win at home over Perth much to illiniman14's joy as it meant no one was going to get the dreaded goose egg.
  • The weekly win seems to be 4/5 most weeks and this time it was a solo win for wwe84, only missing the Melbourne City v Sydney draw. This week it fell to illiniman14 to get a solo spoon with 1/5, his 5th of the season.
  • N-Bomb sees his lead decrease to 5 points, still a massive lead in this competition. No change at the other end with ozzz2002 still 3 points adrift of Sypher who is also 3 points adrift of the 3 above him.

  • Central Coast jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 35 minutes, the 189th time a team has lead 3-0 but Melbourne Victory became the 3rd side to come back and get a result out of the match with an equalising goal in stoppage time, Melbourne Victory also being the team to do this on both other occasions but no one has yet come back to win. For the second time this season Newcastle failed to register a shot on target against Sydney as the home team ran out comfortable winners. Sydney are now unbeaten in 10 matches against the Newcastle with the Jets equalling the record of 6 games in a row without scoring, the last time they hit the back of the net was 559 minutes of playing time ago. In an entertaining match Western Sydney came from 2-0 down to draw level on the hour mark, they thought they had scored the winner when taking a quick free kick but it was pulled back as the referee deemed the Melbourne skipper did not have enough time to get back into defence after the referee had talked to him. It was the let-off that Melbourne needed as they scored late to emerge with all 3 points and close the gap at the top. Adelaide surged into the top 6 with an away victory at Perth who had a player sent off just before half time, Perth will be ruing missing 2 golden opportunities in the first half including putting one over the cross bar from virtually on the goal line. Brisbane were expected to win easily against an injury and suspension ravaged Wellington side but it was the team of mostly youngsters that can hold their heads high after a goalless draw against the league leaders. Controversy marred the match with the Roar awarded a penalty for hand ball which was then reversed after consultation with the linesman, the correct call was made in the end as the Brisbane player had pushed the Phoenix defender causing the contact with the hand. This was a once in a lifetime case of a referee changing his decision.
  • Again we got less than 50% correct with 22/60 or 36.67%, helped enormously by the one match we all got right.
  • We all managed to predict Sydney's win at home over Newcastle which saved the blushes of 5 of us, the goose egg remaining in the cupboard for another week. ElfTwinkle picked up her 1st bonus point of the season with a solo pick for the Central Coast vs Melbourne Victory draw though I am not sure how she did it.
  • 3/5 was enough to see FussBudget (2nd), Sypher (2nd) and ElfTwinkle (3rd) get the weekly win. Spoons went to gtho4 (2nd), wwe84 (3rd), srini701 (2nd), ozzz2002 (6th) and Howie (4th) with 1/5.
  • N-Bomb sees his lead increase to 6 points, he may not be caught this season. At the other end, ozzz2002 and his spoon sees him drop to 5 points behind Sypher and his weekly win. Will he be able to catch up in the second half of the sesaon? All will be revealed over the next few months.

  • Are the defending champion Melbourne Victory back? After their 4-0 thrashing of the league leading Brisbane it could be said that they are, they were unstoppable the way they played and Brisbane will be eager for the return of key strikers who are away on Olympic qualifying duty. Adelaide dominated against Central Coast but a missed penalty from both sides saw the game deadlocked at 0-0 upon the half time whistle, it took 60 minutes for Adelaide to score and that was what was needed for them to run out 3-1 winners and open the gap up to 7th place. Another drama filled edition of the Sydney derby was played out, it looked like heading for a draw before a last minute rocket of a shot from Kiwi striker, Shane Smeltz, gave SydneyFC the win to maintain their domination over Western Sydney. For the Wanderers it is the first home defeat in the last 7 matches, the first goals conceded at home in the last 4 matches and the first time this season they have suffered back to back losses. Perth twice came from behind to hold Melbourne City to a 2-2 draw, even with Perth having a player sent off in the 63rd minute could not help Melbourne from getting the winner. It took just 6 minutes for the Newcastle Jets to break their lengthy goal scoring drought when the referee awarded a penalty (a correct decision for once) for the home team, they added two more to run out deserving winners despite having a player sent off in the second half and Wellington completely dominating the shots at goal and possession statistics. This match showed up very well the lack of striking quality for the Phoenix with their top scorer out for a few months with injury.
  • Again we got less than 50% correct with 21/60 or 35%, 11 of the 21 correct tips as a result of the Adelaide victory.
  • No game was picked by all 12 of us and no game had no correct tips. Howie72 picked up his first bonus point with his strange belief (or hope) that Perth would hold the free-scoring Melbourne City to a draw. Only the bottom two in the standings thought Sydney would win at Western Sydney, the last minute goal was good news for ozzz2002 and Sypher.
  • Sypher earned himself a solo hall of fame win, going back to back and starting a mid-season revival but will it be too little, too late. Another 4 spoons were handed out for 1/5 with most gong to people near the top of the standings - gtho4, FussBudget, George95 and ElfTwinkle being the recipients.
  • With his bonus point, Howie72 cuts N-Bomb's lead back to 5 points but there is no sign that our leader will ever be caught again this season. At the other end, Sypher and his weekly win pulls another point ahead of ozzz2002 and catches up with wwe84. Will ozzz2002 be able to catch up in the second half of the sesaon? All will be revealed over the next few months.

  • Friday night saw Brisbane's title credentials plummet and Adelaide's resurgence continue as the visiting Reds put 4 past the Roar, the second week in a row Brisbane have conceded 4 goals and Adelaide are now unberaten in 8. Western Sydney leapfrogged Brisbane to claim top spot in the league after edging Central Coast in Gosford, the home team looked like securing a point before a sending off and a concession of a late goal saw them go down 2-1. Perth travelled to Newcastle and battered the home team to secure their first away win of the season, in doing saw set a new record of the most away goals scored in a match with 6. The sending off of Nigel Boogaard just before half time did not help the Jets, it is his second red card of the season and 8th of his career. An attacking masterclass from Melbourne City saw them comfortably beat Wellington who once again struggle to find the back of the net, the Phoenix are now winless in their last 7 and it is hard to see where the next win will come from. A defensive minded Sydney kept Melbourne Victory at bay for most of the game until a late foray saw the ball deflected into his own net by Matt Jurman to hand Mlebourne the victory.
  • Again we got less than 50% correct with 26/60 or 43.33% despite a grand total of 0 correct tips in 2 of the games.
  • We all figured Melbourne City would beat Wellington at home, no crystal ball was needed. However we should have used the crystal ball for the Adelaide and Perth wins as no one saw these results happening.
  • A handful of weekly wins were handed out for 3/5, going to paper_aero (3rd), gtho4 (3rd), FussBudget (3rd), N-Bomb (7th) and Howie72 (5th). Another 3 spoons were gleefully accepted for 1/5 with wwe84 (4th), srini701 (3rd) and Sypher (8th) being the recipients.
  • No inroads were made into N-Bomb's 5 point lead but gtho4 moves into a tie for third with ElfTwinkle. At the other end, Sypher's resurgence hits a bump with a spoon, allowing ozzz2002 to close the gap to 5 points. Will ozzz2002 be able to catch up with just 11 rounds to go? All will be revealed over the next few months.

  • Friday night saw a 7-goal thriller between Western Sydney & Melbourne City with Western Sydney looking comfortable at 3-0 up with 24 minutes remaining but then the come back started with Melbourne scoring twice before a red card killed off any remaining hopes, both sides did manage to score once again at the end. Wellington had the majority of possesion, outshot Central Coast 20-9 but it was the visiting Mariners that took the win back to Australia for their first away win in their last 24 attempts. It was 37 year old former Spanish internation Luis Garcia that showed his class in his first 45 minutes of A-League action and proved the difference, along with a lack of goal scoring confidence for the Phoenix. Brisbane took advantage of a sluggish Sydney to record a comfortable away win, the first time Sydney have lost back-to-back this season and also means they have yet to beat a team from outside New South Wales this season. Perth took a surprise 2-0 lead against Melbourne Victory before Melbourne scored 2 themselves and had a player sent of for kicking (another player, not the ball) after orginally being shown a yellow card which was changed to red after consultation with one of the assistants, this proved too much to overcome with Perth converting a late penalty to take the win. Adelaide won for the 4th time in a row and are unbeaten in the last 9 matches after a tough 1-0 win over the visiting Newcastle Jets. The A-League looks like going the way of the EPL with a few rich clubs being able to transfer players in at will even though there is supposedly a salary cap to make the league more even.
  • If it was not for the Adelaide win it would have been an abysmal week for us, we were sitting at 7/48 (14.58%) before this match, after the match we ended the round at 18/60 or 30%.
  • No one tipped Brisbane to beat Sydney or Perth to beat Melbourne Victory while srini701 earned a bonus point for believing Central Coast would end their very lengthy winless away streak.
  • No one achieved a success rate of over 50% with 2/5 earning a weekly win for 7 of us, ozzz2002 will be wondering how Newcastle entered his thoughts when tipping the last match as this tip meant he scored a goose egg to take home the wooden spoon, his 7th.
  • N-Bomb increases his lead back to 6 points and is still the only one without a wooden spoon this season. A score of 0/5 sees the gap between Sypher and ozzz2002 also increase to 6 points. Will ozzz2002 be able to catch up with just 10 rounds to go?

  • Friday night saw Adelaide jump out to a quick lead but it was not until a flurry of goals just before half-time saw it 2-2 at the break, Sydney had the better of the second half but neither team could break the deadlock which saw Sydney avoid losing 3 in a row and Adelaide's 4 match winning streak was broken. Central Coast travelled to Brisbane in confident mood after picking uptheir first away win of the season last week but it only took 20 minutes to break their confidence, Brisbane scored another 3 times to the delight of the home crowd which had reached the 2 million fan mark at Suncorp Stadium (not all in one match in case you were wondering). Western Sydney needed a result away to Melbourne Victory to take back the lead in the standings and left it late, scoring an equaliser in the 89th minute. There was still time for them to take the victory but good goalkeeping kept them out and for some reason a few players got involved in a goal line scuffle which saw a Wanderers player sent off. Once again the Phoenix dominated the shots on goal and the possesion but once again lost, this time at home to Perth, the inability to score goals and injuries continues to plague the Wellington side. Newcastle lost 6-1 at home last week but this week stunned Melbourne City 2-1 in an even game to prove that the A-League is very "easy" to predict.
  • Not surprisingly it was another poor tipping week, we tipped 21/60 or 35% with 12 of these correct tips coming from one match.
  • We all thought Brisbane would beat Central Coast and the 4-0 win proved us correct but no one saw Newcastle's complete reversal of form.
  • One person managed more than 50% this week and as a result ElfTwinkle takes home the weekly win with 3/5. The competition host curse struck again as last week I mentioned that N-Bomb had not taken home a wooden spoon all season and this week he changes this statistic, scoring 1/5 to take home a spoon with FussBudget (5th), paper_aero (6th) and ozzz2002 (competition equalling 8th).
  • N-Bomb has his lead cut to 5 points but there is no need for him to panic, it is still a large lead in this competition. Another wooden sppon for ozzz2002 sees the gap between Sypher and himself increase to 7 points. It is looking very likely that ozzz2002 will not be abe to catch up with just 9 rounds to go so can he prove me wrong?

  • The craziest round this season began with Brisbane jumping out to an early lead at home to Newcastle which did not give a hint of what was to happen over the next 4 games and 84 minutes. Newcastle scored the next 2 goals to take a shock lead but the relentless Brisbane pressure finally told when a Newcastle own goal squared up the ledger. Perth travelled across Australia to take on Sydney, looking to do something they had never done before - win 3 away games in a row. They deservedly achieved this, restricting their hosts to just one shot on target and closing to within 3 points of a play-off spot. Melbourne Victory twice came from a goal down to share the spoils in a drama filled match, the second equaliser coming from an accidental shoulder after a mis-kick. Victory were controversially denied a winner with the ball seemingly crossing the line. To cap it off, Melbourne City had a player sent off and a few Victory fans threw objects at the City goalkeeper and set off flares which has the Club in trouble. The craziness continued in Gosford where the heat delayed the Central Coast vs Adelaide match by 4 hours. The Mariners took a 1-0 lead into half time but it was Adelaide that turned up the heat in the second half to run out winners by the odd goal in 5. Wellington Phoenix had not won in the last 9 matches, the away form leaves a lot to be desired and have been struggling to score goals so of course the travel to the league leading Western Sydney and demolish them 5-2 with Blake Powell scoring the first hat-trick of the season and added a 4th for good measure, all superb finishes (none a simple tap in). The Wanderers had their chances but poor finishing cost them. This was the first time in 11 matches that the Phoenix have scored more than 1 away goal and the most goals Western Sydney have ever conceded.
  • Where do I begin in a week that saw us tip 12/60 or 20%? Maybe with the 3 matches that no one tipped correctly - the Newcastle draw, Perth win and Welington win. No home team managed to emerge victorious this week.
  • An "outstanding" 2/5 was enough to earn FussBudget, srini701 and George95 a weekly win. At the other end it was 0/5 that saw ozzz2002, Howie72 and illiniman14 wooden spoons, this being the 4th time this season that ozzz2002 has score a goose egg. Can someone please remind me not to tip the same as ozzz2002....lol.
  • N-Bomb's lead increases again to 6 points and it is getting tight for the remaining podium places with just 3 points separating 2nd to 6th. Another spoon sees ozzz2002 drop further behind and now he cannot even see where Sypher is so is in danger of getting lost.

  • Adealaide scored in the 90th minute with a deflected shot to grab an unlikely win over Melbourne Victory in a scrappy and stop-start match, it was their first win over the Victory in Melbourne in the last 5 years and the Victory's first loss at home in the last 11 matches. In an even match Newcastle triumphed in a 5 goal thriller over Wellington, the winning goal coming after a very soft sending off of a Phoenix player after what appeared to be poor sportsmanship from the Newcastle Jets who took a quick free kick and instead of passing it to another player, deliberatley kicked it into the back of the legs of the Wellington player in an attempt to get him yellow carded and sent off....it worked. Sydney stretched their unbeaten Sydney derby run to 7 games after an entertaining game against Western Sydney, despite ozzz2002's prediction of Western Sydney winning the brawl it was well behaved fans that added to the entertainment. However, I have no idea what happened out on the streets after the game though I am sure ozzz2002 can tell us what mischief he got up to. Perth and Brisbane forgot about the defending part of football as 9 goals were scored by 9 different players, 7 coming in the first half. Both of the goals scored and number of goal scorers equal A-League records. Perth scored 6 of the goals to equal a club record and in doing so get to within 1 point of a play-off spot with the club record 5th win in a row. Central Coast went into the half time break in buoyant mood being 1-0 up away to Melbourne City but a nightmare second half took care of that, not ony did they concede 3 early goals in they also lost their New Zealand defender with a badly broken leg and had a layer sent off, to rub salt in the wound Melbourne scored again 10 minutes into stoppage time.
  • It was a much better tipping week with 27/60 or 45%. Every game had at least 2 correct tips but no game was tipped correctly by everyone, ozzz2002 ruined that when he predicted a massive Central Coast upset and to be fair, it was looking good after 45 minutes.
  • An excellent 4/5 saw wwe84 (ony missed the Adelaide win) and gtho4 (only missed the Sydney derby draw) take away the weekly win. Spoons went to Sypher (9th), illiniman14 (8th) and FussBudget (6th). The big question is who will reach double figures for spoons first?
  • N-Bomb's lead remains at 6 points while gtho4 joins Howie72 in 2nd place and has the better tie-breaker. It is still just 3 points separating 2nd to 6th. It was not 4 spoons in a row for ozzz2002 and as a result he gets a point closer to Sypher at the bottom.

  • Wellington lived up to its reputation as it was a tad breezy when the Phoenix took on Melbourne City, it got so bad that at times ball was blown from the spot when free kicks etc were taken and another player had to hold the ball in place. In the end it was the home team that came away with the points to put a dent in Melbourne's hopes of a top 2 finish. Western Sydney left it late to overcome a resolute Perth and in doing set up a potential top of the table clash with Brisbane next week, Perth played well enough to get something from the game but it was not to be, however they are still in play-off contention. It is hard to believe that Adelaide started the season with just 3 draws in their first 8 matches, they moved into 2nd place after beating Brisbane 3-0 at home thus ruining the aforementioned top of the table clash next week. It gives them 10 wins and 3 draws in the 13 matches since the horrendous start. Melbourne Victory took the lead just after half time in their clash with Sydney and when the visitors had a player sent off it it looked to be enough. Sydney refused to lie down and equalised with a superb solo goal to take a share of the spoils. If Central Coast want to avoid the wooden spoon they need to beat teams like Newcastle at home, especially as they have not lost to the Jets in Gosford in 8 years. However, Newcastle had dreams of breaking the hoodoo and it took one second half goal after a bad defensive blunder to make their dreams come true.
  • sirini701 was running on default fuel this week.
  • We tipped 19 out of 55 this week for a 34.54% strike rate, no match had more than 7 correct tips and wwe84 picks up the 8th bonus point of the season when he was the only one to think Wellington Phoenix had any chance of beating Melbourne City.
  • 3/5 was enough for gtho4 to get back to back weekly wins and this time he is joined by illiniman14. A handful of spoons were handed out to Sypher, ozzz2002, paper_aero, George95 and Howie72. Last week's question was answered as both Sypher and ozzz2002 brought up double figures in wooden spoons at a rate of just under 1 every 2 rounds.
  • N-Bomb's lead is cut to 5 points as gtho4 takes over solo 2nd place, Howie72's decline continues as he is now joined in 3rd by ElfTwinkle. No change at the bottom.

  • A dominant Brisbane took control early against Western Sydney but only took a 1-0 lead into the break. A 74th minute penalty brought the visitors back into it and they took the lead 4 minutes later, Brisbane were not to be denied as not long after this they scored twice in 3 minutes to earn the victory to move equal with Western Sydney on points. Wellington were poor at home once again and went down 4-0 to Adelaide, the result capping a remarkable turnaround for Adelaide as they surged to the top of the standings. A hattrick to Bruno Fornaroli saw him break the record for the most goals scored in an A-League regular season when going past the 19 goal mark, he also steered Melbourne City past a plummeting Sydney side. Melbourne Victory took control early away to Central Coast and remained in control all game, helped by a Mariners sending off just after half time though they only made the game safe in stoppage time at the end. Newcastle also had a player sent off but by then Perth were already looking comfortable at 2-0 up, the scoreline remained unchanged and this sent Perth into the 6th and final play-off spot.
  • We tipped 38 out of 60 this week for an impressive 63.33% strike rate even though ony one game had everyone tipping correctly, being the Perth home win over Newcastle.
  • We can doff our caps this week to illiniman14 and N-Bomb as they both were perfect in going 5/5 to take the weekly win and a bonus point each. I am not sure what we can do for ozzz2002 as he picks up his 11th spoon in 22 weeks with 1/5. The wondering about how many weeks in a row illiniman14 can either be best or worst can continue as he now makes it 6 weeks in a row.
  • We can now wave goodbye to N-Bomb as he jumps out to a 9 point lead, the only way anyone will have a chance of overtaking him is if forgets to tip for the next 5 weeks. The race continues for the remaining 2 podium spots as srini701 takes over from ElfTwinkle to join Howie72 in a tie for 3rd, It gets worse and worse for ozzz2002 as he drops to a massive 10 points behind Sypher, he will now be plotting his comback for next season.

  • Melbourne City headed to Adelaide with the aim to end the home team's 14 match unbeaten streak and in a game that offered very few goal scoring chances it took just one to achieve that aim and leave the race for the minor premiership wide open. It was a rare good day for the Wellington Phoenix as they travelled to Sydney and put 3 goals into the back of the host's net in the first half, they relaxed in the second half and let Sydney back into the match but the damage had already been done. Brisbane completely dominated fellow play-off contenders Melbourne Victory to record a big 5-0 win, they were 2-0 up at the break and even a torrential downpour in the second half could not dampen Brisbane's goal scoring efforts. Perth comfortably beat Central Coast at home to continue their surge up the standings, they were helped by the Mariners having 2 players sent off in the second half and in the end, the visitors could not register a shot on target. Western Sydney did what they needed at Newcastle and eked out a 1-0 win to join Brisbane at the top of the standings but in second place by a solitary strike in goal difference.
  • The round did not start well as no one predicted Melbourne City would win at Adelaide and only srini701 and Howie72 gave the Phoenix a chance at Sydney. It improved after that and we finished with 28/60 or 46.66%.
  • I ran out of fingers and thumbs on one hand to count the number of weekly winners, it turned out it was 7 after I made use of the second hand, too many to name as I am in a rush to get this finished. However the highlight would be N-Bomb's 10th for the season and no one else is even close to that. To ozzz2002's joy (as he picked up his 2nd weekly win), Sypher managed to earn a spoon with a goose egg score of 0/5.
  • 6 out of the top 7 gained the weekly win so no change at the top, N-Bomb maintaining his massive 9 point lead. A 3 point dwinding of the gap at the bottom sees ozzz2002 now 7 points behind Sypher (hence his aforementioned joy) with 4 rounds to go.

  • Brisbane lead at half time away to Melbourne City and in their last 14 games they had been ahead at half time they had not lost but this was to change when the Roar conceded a penalty and had a player sent off, two late goals and it was Melbourne that came away with the 3 points. Sydney were cruising at 2-0 up against bottom place Central Coast with 5 minutes to play but fell asleep and the Mariners took advantage to score two of their own and put a dagger through Sydney's play-off hopes. Western City and Adelaide slugged it out and it ended in a goalless stalemate, the most controversial moment coming when it appeared an Adelaide player was taken down by the Wanderers 'keeper only for the referee to yellow card the Adelaide player for simulation instead of awarding a penalty and possibly sending off the goalkeeper. Andy Keogh became just the third player to score in 6 or more conscutive A-League matches when he helped Perth claim a crucial win over Wellington to keep them within reach of the top 4, they rarely look threatend in claiming an 8th victory in their last 9 games. For the first time this season Melbourne Victory trailed at half time at home, Newcastle had a player red carded and the Victory equallised soon after but neither side could find a winner.
  • The round started with 7 correctly tipping the first match but then it went downhill with only 8 correct tips in the remaining 4 matches including no one predicting the Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle draw. This gave us just 15/60 or a 25% strike rate.
  • Another 4 weekly winners this round with srini701 (7th), George95 (6th), N-Bomb (11th) and Howie (7th) all getting a paltry 2/5. Sypher went back to back with goose egg spoons with another 0/5 to give him a competition leading 12th wooden spoon.
  • N-Bomb stretches hs lead out front to 10 points while srini701 and Howie72 join gtho4 in a share of 2nd place, gtho4 and srini701 have identical HOF/WOS statistics with Howie72 well behind. Sypher's wooden spoon sees ozzz2002 reduce the gap to 6 points at the bottom with 3 rounds to go.

  • Chances were created at both ends between Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney but it was only the home side that could put any away as they beat the league leaders 2-0. A 9th win in their last 10 matches has seen the Perth resurgence continue, they beat Newcastle away in a scrappy match that saw a player from eac h side sent off and Andy Keogh find the back of the net for the 7th successuve match. Sydney looked to have kept their play-off hopes alive when they equalised at Brisbane in the 88th minute only to have them dashed less than 60 seconds later as the Roar snatched the win and all but end Sydney's season. 3 goals in 10 first half minutes was enough for Adelaide to account for bottom placed Central Coast as they won 4-2. Wellington's struggles continued as they went down 3-0 at Melbourne City with the home side taking over top spot in the standings on goal difference.
  • It was a very good tipping week, at least very good for the A-League as all matches were tipped correctly by at least 5 people. This gave us just 42/60 or a 70% strike rate.
  • For the 3rd week in a row N-Bomb, George95 and srini701 get a weekly win, it is the 4th in a row for N-Bomb, as a result they all earn themselves a bonus point too. The spoon went to ozzz2002 this week as he could do no better than 1/5.
  • N-Bomb maintains his 10 point lead with srini701 now in solo 2nd place. The gap at the bottom increases to 8 points as ozzz2002 is all but certain to fill the final place on the ladder.

  • Western Sydney dominated Central Coast from the first whistle to the last and put 4 goals past them and give themselves a chance of winning the Premier's Plate in the final week. For a 16th match in a row Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix have failed to play out a draw, this time it was the Victory that came comfortable winners on the scoreboard though shots on goal and on target were almost even. Both teams had a player sent off and the result cements Melbourne's play-off spot. Adelaide did all they needed to against a poor Sydney and never looked threatened in recording a 2-0 away win to keep to also keep their Premier's Plate hopes alive. Newcastle took a shock lead against Brisbane but the sending off of their skipper pretty much scuttled their chances of earning an upset win. The Roar's comeback sees them as another team that could win the Premier's Plate. Andy Keogh did it again, scoring in his 8th consecutive match to break the Australian national league record as Perth withstood a Melbourne City fightback to win for the 10th time in their last 11 matches.
  • We had almost as good a tipping week as last round as every game was tipped correctly by at least 4 of us. This gave us 37/60 or a 61.67% strike rate.
  • gtho4 earned himself a solo weekly win and a bonus point with a perfect 5/5. it was Sypher's turn to take home the wooden spoon with 1/5, his 13th in 26 rounds.
  • N-Bomb increases his lead to 11 points with gtho4 joining srini701 in a tie for 2nd place. The gap at the bottom increases to 8 points as ozzz2002 is all but certain to fill the final place on the ladder. The gap at the bottom is back to 6 points so mathematically still possible with bonus points for ozzz2002 to close it up but I would hate to think what the odds would be.

  • Adelaide did what they had to in beating Melbourne City away and move to the top of the standings though the game will also be remembered for a scuffle between almost every player and some coaching staff from each side as they headed up the tunnel at half-time. If Brisbane fail to beat Melbourne City then Adelaide will win the Premiers' Plate. Central Coast ended a dismal season by going down to Newcastle at home, giving them a 20th loss in 27 matches and ending 12 points adrift at the bottom. Brisbane dominated the chances created away to a very inexperienced Melbourne Victory but could not score the much needed goal as it finished in a 0-0 stalemate to hand Adelaide the Premiers' Plate. Western Sydney scored both goals in Wellington to also jump over Brisbane in the standings and secure a home semi-final match. It was also another season to forget for Wellington after a very promising start. Sydney finished the season on a high when they destroyed visiting Perth by 4-0.
  • The final round for this season was not a particularly successful round for us as we only went 21/60 or 35%, illiniman14 and wwe84 were the only two to get over 50%. The Western Sydmey win in Wellington gave us 11 of the 21 correct tips with no other game having more than 3.
  • N-Bomb did not need to tip this week but he did anyway and maintained his 11 point lead at the top, srini outscored gtho4 in the last round to secure second place and left gtho4 to fill the podium in 3rd place. Unfortunately for ozzz2002 (but fortunately for the rest of us) he brings up the rear being 7 points adrift and is now scheming of ways to climb up the ladder next season.
  • Once again we ended up with three different medallists to last year.
  • The end of season awards are as follows:

  • As you can see from the awards, N-Bomb completely dominated this season so the rest of us will have to figure out a way to change it next season. Thus the season comes to an end, thank you to all that tipped and congratulations to the three that made it on the podium. We can all relax until the next edition of this "easy to tip" competition and N-Bomb's attempt to defend his title smile.
