3rd leg of FT Triple Crown

155th Melbourne Cup

This year's race is almost here. The scoring system for the Melbourne Cup comp is the same as the Grand National and Kentucky Derby compc earlier this month:

RULES
o The rules for this comp are simple, and are the same as last year and the year before.
o Pick 10 horses in the order you think they'll finish, 1st to 10th.
o Points: for any horse out of the 10 you've picked, which finishes in the first five places:
      1st : 10 pts
      2nd : 6 pts
      3rd : 3 pts
      4th : 2 pts
      5th : 1 pt
o The order of your picks will be used as a tiebreaker to separate any dead-heats or ties.
o If two players have identical picks x10, whoever posts first wins the tie-breaker.
DEADLINE
The race starts on Tuesday 3rd November 2015 at 3:00pm local time. Tips close when they
jump. There is a count-down clock to the race start time in post below this one.
The following few pages (of many out there) have details of the contenders and their form:At the moment there are 82 81 horses still in the running to qualify, after first acceptances.
The field of 24 runners and their post positions (barrier draw) will be announced three
days before the race at around 6:00pm local time on Sat 31st Oct.
Picks x10 can be posted at any time in this thread, even if the field of 24 hasn't been announced! Please note that there is no need to pick reserves. If your horse is scratched, so be it (we've got half the field covered with our 10 picks). However, as is the case with any tipping comp in here, you are free to edit your picks at any time before the deadline.
Howie72 is the defending titleholder.

That Barrier Draw is showing last year's Cup field.
wwe84 won't get very far with those picks. Only a couple of them are in this year's field.

All fixed up now, I see smilee

  • 22crows was the only tipper to take the 100-1 Prince of Penzance, and it paid off with a first place finish. Just picking the winner didn't put 22cows over the top, but getting Criterion and Trip to Paris both did just that.

  • paper_aero, N-Bomb, and srini701 all finished tied with 11, and their order was determined through a tiebreaker of how they picked Max Dynamite, the 2nd horse. paper_aero put it first, earning him the silver, and N-Bomb put it second, earning him the bronze. srini701 had it all the way back in 9th and he unfortunately finishes outside the podium.

  • The incredible longshot Prince of Penzance won being ridden by Michelle Payne, the first female jockey winner in the 155 years of the Melbourne Cup. She was only the fourth female jockey ever in the race. She rode Prince every race of its career except one, and will surely never be taken off its back again.

  • Red Cadeaux, 3-time runner-up at the Melbourne Cup, broke down before the finish line and many feared he might have to be put down after 2 horses died during last year's race, but his leg was stabilized. Although immediately retired, he is no longer considered to have life-threatening injuries.

  • The jockey for Max Dynamite (who finished 2nd) was banned for a month and fined A$20,000 for careless riding. The jockey for Big Orange (who finished 5th) was suspended for 14 days for "causing interference."
