She is gorgeous, even in her anger! Are these hands yours, Mira? I see the familiar scratches of what my vet calls "a cat lover's hands". I do wish you the best, now that you have them both back with you!

No, that's the vet tech holding her down. My scratches are on my neck. After I grabbed her, I shoved her down my sweater & zipped up my coat until I could wrangle her into the car & the waiting carrier.

My neighbour's wisteria (and their manky ivy) has been growing over the fence and into my garden this year. I don't mind the wisteria - its beautiful flowers can adorn my side of the fence any time but in winter it loses its leaves and all I can see now is the ivy and... this wren's nest. It's quite small - the wren is not quite Britain's smallest bird (the goldcrest takes that prize) but it's still tiny. This nest is about 3-4 inches across and perched very cleverly on top of the fence. Wrens may be small but they are noisy little things - now I know the source of the songs that wake me up at the crack of dawn!

Princess is reasserting her dominance in the household. That piece of newspaper she is lying on has been Quentin's hangout for two months. He had it in the hotel & I brought it to the apartment. Newer pages of newspaper haven't tempted him.

The past few days have seen a tribe of couriers arrive at this house laden with Christmas presents, almost all of which are for other people - except the one that arrived this morning, which is my present to myself.
