I had two alternatives, either remove each post which brought this thread down, or remove the thread.

Actually I do have a third alternative, I could remove forum access for people who insist on destroying threads such as this.

Sorry to see that a few people caused this thread to be removed.

I would be inclined to go with the third alternative!

I tend to agree, Veronica, especially if people have been warned to keep it civil.

I think the third alternative should be for all forum threads. Anyone who constantly destroys them should have that privilege revoked.

I don't want to presume that I'm one of the 'spoilers' referred to by Sue (though chances are...) - but if it's a choice between allowing totally inappropriate Islamophobic remarks (which should probably have been 'moderated' by the moderators beforehand) to go unchallenged, or accepting the risk of being barred by challenging this sectarianism, I'll opt for the latter every time .... or for as long as that's possible. :-)

Like everyone else on this site I was utterly appalled by what happened in Paris. It felt particularly immediate because my daughter and her boyfriend were due to go there (for the first time) next weekend - I've just persuaded her to cancel!

The attacks weren't a 'mindless act' - they were considered, planned and carried out within a particular world view and in a complex political scenario. But I held off from posting on the thread because I didn't feel it was the right time to analyse. I only posted when someone selfishly opted to use the general abhorrence at what had happened to make offensive Islamophobic comments. That's not acceptable to me - it shouldn't be tolerated on this site - I make no apologies for challenging it.

Sometimes when one holds strong opinions on a subject (such as the recent carnage in Paris), it is best to keep them to oneself................which is why I did not post mine. "Free Speech" is only thus in theory.

Can we change our profile locations for a week to indicate Paris, France? This gets the French flag on our page in honor of the deceased and other fallen souls and to show solidarity with the French people as they try to cope with what has happened.

Forgot there's two profile locations: Quizzyland and here.

oh great, how charming. There is no free speech on this site. If you're looking for free speech on the net, please look elsewhere.
