I was amused by a story today that showed the attitude of our local people.
Everyone in China is trying to get home for the CNY holiday so there are crowds everywhere.One guy was waiting to board a bus to his province. He was carrying two live chickens. When he went to board the bus, an official said he could not take live chickens on board and banned him. What would you, or your countrymen have done? A Brit would, I think, either moan bitterly or abandon the birds.
What did Mr Wong do? He took them outside the station, chopped their heads off, plucked them, cut them up into pieces, put them in a plastic bag and got on the bus.
What would be done in this situation in your country?

It's difficult to imagine that anyone in the U.S. would try to board a bus with live chickens. And, if they went round the back of the bus station, and chopped off their heads, you can bet law enforcement would get involved.

Yes, thats what I thought might be an answer. People here would never dream of buying anything but a live chicken here for a holiday meal.

If the chickens were in a pet carrier of some kind I think they would be allowed on public transportation.

He was allowed on the bus with a tool that could chop chicken heads off? That wouldn't be allowed by Homeland Security in the USA.

Yes mehaul , one of my students queried that one. Why did he have a meat chopper with him to go home on the bus?! The storya made a great discussion strter in Newsreading lesson today.

My thoughts too were that he was 'carrying an offensive weapon', unless he borrowed one.

We wouldn't have tried carrying them, apart from in a pet carrier but then wouldn't prepare them for the table at home, buy them oven ready.

You're being a bit hard on the British - my mother could, and did, kill chickens with her bare hands, no need for a namby pamby chopper in our house! Then she'd put the dead hen back on its feet and watch it run round the garden.

I guess they had to hunt up something else for breakfast. Seeing's eggs weren't on the menu any more.

I think in some of the more remote parts of Britain the chickens would have been welcome to travel as long as each one had its own ticket.

If the chicken head chopping tool was carried in a coat or a bag, they could get on trains and buses here. People aren't searched as they get on every single bus, train, or subway. They never have been.

My mother grew up on a farm and I lived on one in very young days. I used to help chopping chicken heads off. And I do remember when we had more than one running around without a head.

I also learned how to slaughter other livestock. No, it did not make me want to become a vegetarian.

Googling Chickens on public bus brought up links to a method of transport I'd never heard of before.

He should have claimed they were emotional support therapy animals in the same way someone in America managed to take a turkey on a flight

We used to be pretty easy going here about "offensive weapons" on the bus - I used to knit on cross country bus rides - but then we had a horrible incident where a mentally ill passenger beheaded the man sleeping next to him. Since then they're much tougher.

I don't think anyone would try it here on the big buses but our local little town has a small bus that goes over to the big town every day and it wouldn't surprise me if people did it on that. I know people have taken dogs and cats over to the vet.
If they tried and weren't allowed .. there'd be chickens let loose in the streets

Here's a story about flying turkeys I found on facebook.

I still don't see how you can toilet train a turkey.

I presume you'd just put a nappy on them if they weren't in a cage. They do with chimps when they're in public places.

Now a turkey in a nappy I would like to see!
