It turned out to be another good weekend for the home teams as 6 of them won....the 6 winners included the Wellington Hurricanes over the defending champions Otago Highlanders, the NSW Waratahs over the Waikato Chiefs and the Eastern Cape Kings over the Jaguares....It was just the second win for the season for the Kings!
In other matches, the Brumbies toyed with the Sunwolves, the Stormers just got past the Cheetahs, the Lions mauled the Bulls away for their very first win in Pretoria, while the Blues were more happy with their home loss to the Crusaders.
paper_aero jumped to a share of the lead with yet another HoF performance. He only missed the win for the Kings (which incidentally fetched ozzz2002 a sole pick bonus this round). George95 and ElfTwinkle share the spotlight this round with paper. srini701, N-Bomb, gtho4 and Davjack all took home spoons this round.
We break for a month for the internationals and return to comp July 1 with at least 5-6 of us jostling for the podium spots. With just 3 rounds left to play, 2 (Howie72 and Dizart) are without a spoon, 2 (wwe84 and Davjack) are without a HoF and 2 (srini701 and ElfTwinkle) are without a bonus point.

Our defending champion went back to his drawing board during the one month break from this comp and apparently did his homework. ozzz2002 returned in style when the matches resumed, picking the whole lot, and throwing his hat into the ring for a potential spot on the podium.
We did well as a group, with 3 matches being picked by everybody and another 2 matches being missed only by one person each...Sypher was probably too distracted with the Euro (or fretting over the loss of England there) and so ended up with a spoon.
The Chiefs are in control of their division after beating the Crusaders, the Lions are on top of the table, while defending champions Otago Highlanders are managing to keep pace with the leaders with another fine win. There were wins for Brumbies, Stormers and Waratahs too, while the Jaguares managed only the 3rd win of their debut season. Let's not talk about the Reds, Force, Kings or the Sunwolves any longer.

With just one round left, the quarter-finalists are more or less set. Waikato Chiefs continued to stay atop the New Zealand Conference, ahead of the Canterbury Crusaders by a single point after both teams won their matches with ridiculous ease. Both should qualify for the last 8 along with defending champions Otago Highlanders and the Wellington Hurricanes, who also won this weekend. The New Zealand teams occupy all the 3 wildcard spots allotted to the Australasian Group.
Auckland Blues is the only team from this conference out of this season's competition, but they put a screw in the things by beating the Australian Conference leaders ACT Brumbies. Thankfully for the Brumbies, their closest challengers, the NSW Waratahs also lost this weekend, meaning they both need to win next weekend to ensure they qualify. Unfortunately for the Waratahs, they need to do it on the road against the very same Auckland Blues, while the Brumbies have their fate in their hands, hosting the Western Australian Force.
Another team that controls their own fate is the Natal Sharks. The Sharks won over the weekend and next play the Tokyo Sunwolves. Win, and they should make it to the last 8 along with the conference leaders Gauteng Lions. The Western Province Stormers secured a home quarterfinal after they ensured they will finish atop their conference. The Sharks will be competing against the Northern Transvaal Bulls for the final wild card spot in the last 8.
We don't have so much tension here in our comp.....the podium is more or less decided. One of Dizart, paper_aero or N-Bomb should win it. Howie72 and ozzz2002 have an outside chance of making it to the podium. The rest of us can stand and cheer them all on  N-Bomb could have made it even more closer had he lodged his picks in time this round (and picked the Blues)....Sypher made it back to back spoons despite scoring a high 6. With 5 matches being picked by everybody and another 2 matches being missed by only 1 person, we had one of our best ever rounds in this competition.

After 17 rounds and 135 matches of the regular season, we are down to the top 8 of the 2016 Super Rugby tournament. The four Conference winners will host the four wildcard teams, but there were some nice little twists in the final round.
After dominating the whole season, both the Crusaders and the Chiefs lost in the final round, leaving the Wellington Hurricanes as the winners of the fiercely contested New Zealand Conference and the top tournament seed for a home quarter-final. Both the Chiefs and the Crusaders now play away quarter-finals.
The Gauteng Lions also lost in the final round, but they still finished top of South Africa Conference 2. The Western Province Stormers finished as South Africa 1 Conference winners after beating the Kings and enter the quarter-finals as third seed. The Australian Conference winner is the ACT Brumbies who beat the Force to qualify as fourth seed.
The Brumbies host the Highlanders, the Hurricanes host the Sharks, the Lions play against the Crusaders and the Stormers face the Chiefs in the quarter-finals.
Dizart won our competition here without any further hiccup. He finished a comfortable 2 points ahead of his nearest rivals. paper_aero and N-Bomb both tied on scores but paper_aero takes the silver medal this season on a better HoF count. Howie72 made a valiant dash towards the end, but he probably left it too late for himself. paper_aero and N-Bomb thus retain their medals from last season.
wwe84 also left it a little late, but he ends the season with his first HoF. George95 and illiniman14 take home the final spoons. Davjack fared better than last season in terms of "attendance" but he still managed to forget to post his tips the final two rounds of the season
srini701 and paper_aero won the most HoFs for the season (5 each), Howie72 and Dizart went through the whole season without a spoon, while srini701 and ElfTwinkle remained the only 2 to miss out on bonus points the whole season.
Thank you all for a very entertaining and fine season and hoping to see everybody return for the 2017 season for another round of the sport "they play in heaven"
