First off, I'd like to say thank you to the stayers, as I've been away too much of this season. After my girlfriend lost her father back on July 4, we have been spending as much time with her mother as we could. Her mother passed on Monday, Sept. 5.
Now to the baseball action:
Wwe84 had stretched his lead to eleven just six weeks ago, and ozzz2002 cut that down to three last week. Ozzz couldn't capitalize and cut that lead further this week, but he is keeping wwe84 on his toes. Will wwe84 take the gold? We will find that out in just four weeks.
There is still one player without a weekly win...c'mon, illiniman14, take one before the season ends! Howie72 has been good on the flipside of that coin, having not one Spoon so far. There are a few without a bonus point, myself included.
Overall tipping has stayed above the 50% threshold most weeks, and cumulative is above, but this week, we fell short, not just of 50%, but less than 100 correct tips too.
Wwe84 is the only tipper to stay at or above 9th place...
This was a great day in baseball...the Rangers won and the-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e Yankees lose!
**A reminder: any inactive tippers will continue to receive default scores weekly. If they are in last place and 2nd last is several points ahead, they will automatically default to the 2nd last score.
Another reminder: games can be postponed due to precipitation, so there may not always be 15 games scored.

No, that's not a misprint: wwe84 went from a +3 to +16 this week, by virtue of his stellar picks of 14/15 and ozzz2002's paltry 3, and picking up three bonus points in the process (ozzz2002 did pick up one to give him four points this week).
With the Rangers win, that eliminates both the Athletics and Angels from the division race...yay!!! Now to drop that magic number from 11 to zero! #nevereverquit
Most games this week were predictable, with a few exceptions: the Reds winning away and Atlanta at home (isn't Atlanta the worst in MLB this year?), as well as the AL-worst Twins winning at home (although it took 12 innings and a balk to do it).
Let's wrap up the gold medal now for wwe84, and see who can take silver and bronze...with only three weeks left, and a 16 point lead, that's insurmountable, as wwe84 has already made picks for next Saturday's games, so the worst he can do is gain 12 points, provided he snags a golden wood next week.

No, that's not a misprint: eight is our top score as four games were picked by one or two, and another one was picked by no one, plus a sixth picked by only four. The ones we got, we almost all got, but the ones we missed, we all but all missed. With dg_dave as one of those eights, he moves into the lead of weekly wins with seven, but PaulE is still able to take the most if he gets wins in the final two weeks, and dg_dave does not.
What did Sypher know in Atlanta and at Angel Stadium? What did srini701 know at Wrigley? The latter question I may be able to give some insight: as the Cubs won their division yesterday, they may have let off the gas pedal a bit, since their magic number for the top seed in the NL is nine...with the Rangers blowout loss and the Indians winning, the Rangers' magic number for the AL top seed is 13.
If ElfTwinkle hadn't picked the Rays to win in Baltimore, she'd have only gotten two correct (Colorado and San Diego).
Just two more weeks sees the finish line...and with wwe84 a full week's picks ahead, he has taken the gold for certain (he's already picked next Saturday's games).

The 2016 MLB season has come to a close. With only one week to go, wwe84 had enough points that he didn't even need to tip, as shown in last week's results thread. He tipped anyway, but only mustered four, however, as we only had a 38.89% strike rate, not too many did well. Three players jagged 50% or more, our final weekly winner, Sypher, and honorable mention to ozzz2002 and ElfTwinkle for picking eight. Dizart was on the wrong end, only hitting on three.
Howie72 went all 27 weeks without a Spoon, and he will start next season with a 28 week streak (last Spoon was 2nd last round in 2015).
Even though dg_dave had the most weekly wins with eight, his five this week knocked him off the podium by Sypher and ozzz2002 (see above), and PaulE with six weekly wins had the same fate. Had there not been any bonus points, wwe84 would have defeated dg_dave and N-Bomb by three, 218-215, as dg_dave, N-Bomb, and two others never jagged a bonus point (wwe84 was 2nd highest with 13, and ozzz2002 had one more at 14).
The ultimate Spoon goes to three tippers, ozzz2002, srini701, and yoyoandcigs with five each. Dizart and terraorca both had four Spoons, good enough for second place.
We welcome Shadowmyst2004 in this final week, and as he said, it may have been too late to compete, but it's an extra tipper to give us 19 on the season, narrowly missing our record of 20 participants in the 2011 comp.
The near-miss bonus points will remain as they were this year: 12/15, 11/14, and 10/13, as we had only six weeks of 27 that gave us one.
In World Series news, as the Cubs and Indians are fighting it out for baseball superiority, one team will win their first World Series in at least 68 years (the Indians last won in 1948, and we all know the Cubs have not won since 1908 (this is their first Series since 1945)).

As the official cellar dweller, I guess I should pay a little more attention to pro ball next year. None the less, very fun. Thanks for letting a rookie humiliate himself. Don't think of it as humiliation...think of it as "getting your feet wet" and trying something new...we'd love to have you back next season!
