Australian Football League | AFL | 2016 Tipping Competition |
Aussie Rules, Australia's unique brand of football, will be kicking off on Thu 24th March. The rule for this year's comp are the same as previous years, viz.
- One point a correct pick, nothing for a loss.
- Default if you forget to pick, wooden spoon score.
- Perfect picks score a bonus point.
- If needed, end-of-season tiebreaker for the podium spots will be HoF v Spoons.
Largest differential wins, or if the differential is equal, most weekly HoF wins. - Deadline will be the start of the first game each weekend - usually a Friday night
at 7:20pm or 7:50pm, with the occasional Thursday.
This is the 16th edition of the AFL tipping comp.
gtho4 won last year's comp, followed by 2crows and George95. Can they retain their medals?

Welcome to the 2016 AFL tipping competition where we once again have 16 runners in the field, the only change to last season is the return of ElfTwinkle who is replacing BxBarracuda. Can gtho4 repeat his victory from last year? There are 15 people who are hoping the answer is no.Last year's finalists, Richmond, kicked off the season on Thursday night at home to 2015's bottpm placed Carlton. It was not easy and took a 4th quarter comeback but they started the season with a narrow 9 point win. It was even closer for Melbourne when they kicked 6 of the last 8 goals to snatch the win over Greater Western Sydney by 2 points. It was much easier on the Gold Coast where the home team thumped a depleted Essendon who have had 12 players given a season long ban for taking banned substances, will this mean their first wooden spoon since 1933? North Melbourne had not won an opening round game since 2009 and when Adelaide went ahead by 24 points early in the 3rd quarter it did not look like changing but they also came back superbly to take the spoils at the final hooter. Collingwood Magpies wings were well and truy clipped when they travelled to Sydney and and got annihilated by 80 points. Fremantle travelled across Australia to take on the Western Bulldogs but it looked like they were still relaxing on the plane as they went into the break at quarter time 43-2 behind, it did not get much better as they went down by 65 points. Port Adelaide were behind at ¾ time but powered home to win comfortably in the end. Brisbane scored 102 points away to the West Coast but unfotunately for them, the Eagles had replied with a round leading 166. Geelong made it 9 from 9 for the home teams after they withstood a Hawthorn comeback to pull away again in the final quarter.Dizart missed the first match with late tips and for some reason, 22crows gave the rest of us a chance by forgetting to tip the last Geelong vs Hawthorn game.The FunTrivia AFL competition started with a bang as we have the first perfect round going to ASA and his all home policy. Our defending champion did not start quite as well.We all tipped Sydney and West Coast wins, special mention goes to wwe84 and ASA for their prediction that Geelong would beat Hawthorn. In the end we went 100/142 or 70.42%.As mentioned above, ASA took the weekly win with 9/9 and thus the first bonus point of the season. At the other end, ozzz2002 only has one way to go and that is up after he takes the first spoon with 3/9.With his perfect round and bonus point, ASA opens up an early 2 point lead. At the bottom, ozzz2002 finds himself trailing by 1 point.

Collingwood looked dead and buried with 15 minutes left but kicked 4 out of the last 5 goals to snatch a thrilling win over Richmond, the winning goal coming with just 4 seconds to go. There was only one team in the Showdown with Adelaide strolling to a huge win over a listless Port Adelaide. Some were picking Essondon with their suspensions to go winless but it took just two rounds to prove that will not happen as they accounted for Melbourne. North Melbourne dominated the last 3 quarters to cruise to victory away at Brisbane to make it 2 for 2 to start the season. Western Bulldogs also made it 2 from 2 with a big win against St Kilda, it would have been even more comprehensive but they wasted so many good goal kicking chances. Gold Coast are also unbeaten after upsetting Fremantle away, the first win at Domain Stadium in 8 attempts and their first win over the Dockers at any venue. Greater Western Sydney also caused an upset when they beat Geelong in Canberra though nearly let a 37 point lead slip away. In a reply of last year's Grand Final it went the same way with Hawthorn beating West Coast by a similar margin to the match at the end of lst season. Sydney Swans stared where they ended their first match and ran away convincing 60 point winners over Carlton. No games were tipped correctly by everyone but one game we did not tip correctly at all and that was Gold Coast's win away at Fremantle. Sypher gets a special mention for being the sole tipper to pick Collingwood's win as does illiniman14 for his correct pick of the Greater Western Sydney upset. We were worse than round 1 with just 63/144 or 43.75%.illiniman14 is the weekly winner with an impressive 7/9 while George95 takes home the spoon with just 2/9.illiniman14 reduces ASA's lead at the top to 1 point while while ozzz2002 remains 1 point adrift of the field.
