Indian Premier League T20 Cricket 2016After a break for the World Cup last year, the FT comp for the IPL returns. The ninth edition of the Indian Premier League T20 cricket starts from Saturday, April 9 with 8 teams playing each other in home and away manner before the play-offs. The Supreme Court of India have suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for 2 years and the BCCI has roped in 2 new teams, distributing the Chennai and Rajasthan players to the 2 new teams ( Rising Stars Pune and Gujarat Lions) via player auctions. Lots of the other teams have gone for an overhaul as well, leaving us with a pretty unknown field. We will have a 7 or 8 round competition here involving the 56 league matches, that's all!Rules- One point for a correct pick. - Bonus point for sole picks (or 1 of 2). - Further bonus point for picking a perfect or near perfect round (7/8, 8/8). - Banker system is back. Bonus point for picking the right banker, minus 1 if your banker fails! ... This is what makes this comp different from any other comp here on the site  - Yet another bonus for predicting match with most runs right each round (no minus for getting this wrong grin ). - Default if you forget to pick, wooden spoon score. - Tiebreaker will be HoF v Spoons differential. If equal, total HoF count wins. If still equal, number of bonus points won. - Deadline will be the start of the first game each round. The dates vary for each round, so I apologize for that Howie72, Sypher and gtho4 were on the last podium, which attracted 11 participants. Sypher has finished runner up 3 times in the last 4 years, while gtho4 will be looking for a hat-trick of podiums this time. Can you stop these 2?? A warm welcome to the Indian Premier League 2016 tipping comp, the ONLY comp on the site where it is technically possible to end up with a minus score at the end of it all! Special welcome to our debutant ElfTwinkle 
The league got off to a steady start with teams chasing down targets with ease. Defending Champions Mumbai Indians lost the tournament opener to new team Pune Supergiants, but bounced back in their next match. The other new team, Gujarat Lions also got off the blocks quickly, posting wins in their first 3 matches, with Aaron Finch leading the way for them. Hot favorites Royal Challengers Bangalore (with a first 4 of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers and Shane Watson) thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad in the highest scoring match of the round to start their campaign on the right foot too.
gtho4 got his campaign here off to a screamer, missing only the opener...He also picked the match with the most runs and has already opened up a decent lead at the top! illiniman14 also got the match with the most runs right. A bunch of us got our bankers right but wwe84 and Sypher are not too happy after round 1. Things could change rather rapidly in this comp, so make sure you do lodge your tips each round

"Win the toss, field first and win the match" ....that seems to be the trend in this year's IPL...14 of the 15 matches played to date have been won by teams chasing. No team has been able to establish any sort of dominance and it looks like a level playing field!
Delhi Daredevils knocked the stuffing out of half the field here by beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore...6 of us had it as our "banker" match ....only 2 of us, ozzz2002 and George95 got our bankers right this round, through different matches. Another 2 of us, srini701 and Howie72, got the match with most runs right....it was that very same Delhi-Bangalore match.
Collectively we had a very poor round, getting just 29 of the 77 picks right (37.6%), meaning there were 3 more sole pick bonus going out....to paper_aero, ozzz2002 and wwe84.
gtho4 is still in first place, but ozz2002 leapt right to the top this round...however, in this comp nothing can be said till the very last round and last match, what with all the minus scores and bonus points flying about...so just pull your straps up and hope you hit your darts right the next round, or get your magic mirror working right

It was a little better in this round for teams batting first, with 3 of them managing to win. Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knightriders are beginning to show ominous forms, the new team Gujarat Lions were beaten by Sunrisers Hyderabad (only ozzz saw it coming here), but bounced back to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Sunrisers have won 3 on the trot now while Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore are fluctuating. Kings XI Punjab and the other new team Rising Pune Supergiants are slowly slipping behind the rest. But 8 wins should be enough for any team to get into the playoffs, and we are not yet at the half way stage, so a small little run either way could swiftly turn things around for any team!
We fared a lot better here, with 3 of us (paper_aero, N-Bomb and illiniman14) almost picking the lot. Another 6 of us got the extra bonus for picking the match with the most runs right, while half of us got our banker matches right this round. George95 forgot to lodge a banker and so goes back by one, while Sypher got busy and so ended with a default spoon score of wwe84. With 5 more rounds left, will Sypher regret not lodging his tips this round? We'll know soon

The roller coaster of a ride of the Indian Premier League continues...no team has yet been able to establish any kind of dominance or run of form....There seems to be no real home advantage either this year. Sunrisers Hyderabad lost this round to Rising Supergiants Pune at home, but then beat Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils lost to Gujarat Lions at home and then bounced back to beat Kolkata Knightriders, Gujarat went on to lose to bottom of the table Kings XI Punjab at home, while Pune lost their last 2 matches at home.
Rising Supergiants Pune has been horribly affected with injuries. All their first choice overseas players (Steve Smith, Faf Du Plessis, Kevin Pietersen, Mitchell Marsh) are out for the rest of the season and they are looking for replacements. Kings XI Punjab changed their captain midway through the season, replacing David Miller with Murali Vijay and they promptly won one match (at least )
Only George95 here got his banker right this round, as most of us hedged our bets on Gujarat beating Punjab After George95 in the last round, wwe84 forgot to lodge a banker this round...paper_aero managed to pick a bonus point for getting the match with the most runs right. This year we have managed to get this right every round so far!! gtho4 meanwhile motors on serenely at the top, bagging a sole pick bonus point to the HoF this round, to stretch his lead further... srini701 and ozzz2002 slipped back further with spoons and srini has probably blown any remote chance he has as well in the competition with that

George95 bagged TWO sole pick bonus points in one round, landed his banker as well and zooms up the table into second place behind gtho4. srini701 and Howie72 also bagged bonus points this round for getting the match with most runs correct.
wwe84 had another bad round and continued his season's trend of a spoon every odd round  He and illiniman14 are the ONLY ones this round NOT to land their bankers!!
A lot of us are putting faith in the Gujarat Lions who seem to have hit a minor bump and managed to lose both their matches this round...

George95 had a second successive good round (rarity in this comp) and is now within striking distance of the leader, gtho4. paper_aero also had a great round and added a sole pick bonus as well, to throw his hat into the ring as well. With just 2 rounds left in the comp, gtho4, who has led from day one, will have something to worry about now!
ElfTwinkle had a poor round and picked up her first spoon....it didn't help that she failed in her banker match as well...in fact, only ozzz2002 and N-Bomb got their banker matches right this round. 6 of us banked on Mumbai Indians beating the Kings XI Punjab and it boomeranged on us bad None of us also got the match with the most runs right this round

This is the seventh edition of this competition here and in all these years, for probably the VERY FIRST TIME, we have ALL the participants getting their banker match right in the round This little piece of statistic might be the biggest thing this round! And the 11 of us picked from 3 different matches too...
We had a good round on the whole, with 3 matches being picked by 10 each...ozzz2002 got lucky this round and managed a sole pick bonus along with the match with the most runs, to jump into a medal contention with just one round to go. N-Bomb and Howie72 have also given themselves an outside chance of a podium finish. gtho4 meanwhile increased his lead at the top with a HoF show this round, and will need a disaster in the final round to finish outside the podium! ElfTwinkle picked up a second spoon, but has the consolation of getting her first bonus point this season, leaving Sypher the only one without a bonus point so far.

My sincere apologies over the delay in posting these final results here...been a crazy week at work and home 
No point in talking about the cricket itself...since these set of matches were done, we have had one qualifier (Bangalore beat Gujarat Lions to enter the final) and an eliminator (Sunrisers beat Kolkata to knock them out) this week....Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad play tonight (Friday) to decide the other finalist.
After 2 previous silver medals and a bronze medal in this comp, gtho4 finally dominated this season in style, leading from the word 'go', never let go of his lead, and despite some strong challenge towards the end from the other George, held on to win his first IPL title. Congratulations on a well deserved title, sir! gtho4 also had the most number of right tips throughout the comp (32/56).
George95 had the most number of bankers right here this season (6/8) and that in a way helped him clinch the silver medal ahead of paper_aero. George had 30/56 tips right to paper_aero's 31/56, but paper only had 3 bankers right the whole season!
wwe84 warmed up real slow to the comp, but finished the comp with a bang, bagging the HoF with a bonus for near perfect picks as well, while Sypher and ozzz2002 went home with the last spoons despite managing bonus points for the matches with most runs.
illiniman14 must work the banker system right. He had a better correct pick ratio than most of us, but got only 1 banker right the whole season and that affected his placing badly.
