So sad, just 62 years old. Cancer is a nasty disease and the sooner they find a real cure the better.

She was a pathfinder and a genius. I find it very hard to think of women who were known to be funny before Victoria Wood - Joyce Grenfell is the only one who springs to mind and even she didn't have the range, or perhaps wasn't allowed to have the range, that Victoria Wood had: stand up comedian (or maybe sit down as she often played the piano), sketch writer, comic actress, poignant actress, scriptwriter, playwright, musical writer, and genuinely funny.

When people write lists of famous people they'd like to invite for dinner I always put Victoria Wood at the top of mine. And frankly, with her as a guest who would need anyone else?

I could not believe it when I heard the news 62 is no age. She was a genius.


We have the full series of Dinnerladies on DVD. She was loyal to those who worked with her and gave the best lines to them. Julia Walters always said if she had written it she would not have given the best lines to Victoria, but she always did.

She will be missed. RIP.
