I think this is an outstanding idea. Perhaps a special avatar could be created, such as a gone but not forgotten and used for deceased players.

I like this idea.

I like this one too.

I do as well.

It's an excellent idea and I think a simple generic image would be appropriate.

That is a great idea. I hope the powers that be who can implement this read this thread and advise if this is a viable idea and can implement it.

I like this idea.

I like this idea too because it solves a number of issues. We'd have to have a flag or something to tag such players. Or I could just code it into the profile page itself.

Does anyone have a list of user IDs who should receive such an image?

And, does anyone have a good candidate image we could use?

Would it be possible for someone to 'opt out' if they would prefer not to have themselves 'remembered' in this way?

Christinap and HurricaneBill come to mind.

I found this:

I don't know if it's protected or not.

This is from pixabay, free for reuse:

I could add an "In Memoriam" line to it and save it to postimage.org.

The editors have a list of quizmakers that we have been informed of - we keep track because we put in some effort to keep their quizzes online. If someone wasn't an author, though, or if no one informed us, I don't think there is any one spot with that information.

As does Gatsby722, Gunslinger, finlady, and several others that I cannot think of at the moment. It is a possibility that the original Wordwise person, minch, may be on that list too.

Here is another one, Terry

I am not sure whether you remember, but you supplied me with a list of Airmail's single questions so the Scrambled Eggheads could create a team quiz to remember him by.

I turned the rose pic to make it look more recognizable at 150x150, but here's what I was thinking about:

http://postimg.org/image/58r399h5d/

If you like the concept but not the execution, I have less fancy fonts I can use, or I can change the wording to RIP or In Loving Memory, etc..

I've done two avatars, Terry. Both use images taken from Morguefile which are free to use and alter; attribution is not required. Borders and wording can be changed as you wish.

In terms of members... although she wasn't a Llama at the time of her death, I'm sure we would wish to remember one of our earliest members, Exit10, who died recently; she was of course well-known on FT because of her work as an editor.

I knew Exit10 had not been an editor for a short while...but did not know about a death...RIP Exit10.

I just couldn't remember his FT name, but knew he had passed. I remember at one time, we had a page for memorials on this site. User vermic was on that page, as was finlady and two others.

I like this idea. It's a lot better than just finding a generic "This user account is no longer active" message, especially if you know the individual is deceased or leaving the account active indefinitely when there has been no activity on it for years with no explanation at all. I do think some sort of "opt out" should be possible, though. If a player has a terminal illness and, for whatever reason, just wants their account closed when it is known they have passed, that should be possible, also.

I love the idea of the Rose. Yvonne loved gardening and flowers and nature. I find it is very fitting to remember our teammates who are no longer with us by.

If we make an avatar for all deceased members, then I don't see why they would have had to have been GM. We've had a lot of members who were real assets to the site who were never gold.

I would hope that all members who have died can be remembered. Being a gold member doesn't seem necessary to me, as agony has suggested. We're only likely to know about regular players in any event - those who contributed to a team and/or the site generally.

I didn't know about PurpleFan either, and am saddened to read this now.

Time flies but not that fast, Bonnie (PurpleFan) hasn't been dead a year yet, it was August 30th last year, it was her husband who died nearer two years ago.
