I think this is an outstanding idea. Perhaps a special avatar could be created, such as a gone but not forgotten and used for deceased players.

My suggestion would be to use a generic avatar of some sort, perhaps a simple border and/or ribbon, maybe a yellow rose, and a statement, such as "This member's profile is kept active in remembrance". Or something. I like this idea. I like this one too. I do as well. Sue

That is a great idea. I hope the powers that be who can implement this read this thread and advise if this is a viable idea and can implement it.

Or something. I like this idea. I like this idea too because it solves a number of issues. We'd have to have a flag or something to tag such players. Or I could just code it into the profile page itself. Does anyone have a list of user IDs who should receive such an image? And, does anyone have a good candidate image we could use?

Would it be possible for someone to 'opt out' if they would prefer not to have themselves 'remembered' in this way?

Christinap and HurricaneBill come to mind. As does Gatsby722, Gunslinger, finlady, and several others that I cannot think of at the moment. It is a possibility that the original Wordwise person, minch, may be on that list too.

I turned the rose pic to make it look more recognizable at 150x150, but here's what I was thinking about:

If you like the concept but not the execution, I have less fancy fonts I can use, or I can change the wording to RIP or In Loving Memory, etc..

I've done two avatars, Terry. Both use images taken from Morguefile which are free to use and alter; attribution is not required. Borders and wording can be changed as you wish. http://i64.tinypic.com/25f7kaq.jpghttp://i64.tinypic.com/16hkm09.jpg---- In terms of members... although she wasn't a Llama at the time of her death, I'm sure we would wish to remember one of our earliest members, Exit10, who died recently; she was of course well-known on FT because of her work as an editor.

I knew Exit10 had not been an editor for a short while...but did not know about a death...RIP Exit10.

roos deserves to be remembered, he wasn't a gold member though. I just couldn't remember his FT name, but knew he had passed. I remember at one time, we had a page for memorials on this site. User vermic was on that page, as was finlady and two others.

The Devious Demons have two who would qualify Roger who passed in 2014 http://www.funtrivia.com/profile/rschuch414.html & Steve who passed in 2015 http://www.funtrivia.com/profile/srodney.htmlThanks to everyone for their input on this thread.

I love the idea of the Rose. Yvonne loved gardening and flowers and nature. I find it is very fitting to remember our teammates who are no longer with us by.

I would hope that all members who have died can be remembered. Being a gold member doesn't seem necessary to me, as agony has suggested. We're only likely to know about regular players in any event - those who contributed to a team and/or the site generally.
I didn't know about PurpleFan either, and am saddened to read this now.

Time flies but not that fast, Bonnie (PurpleFan) hasn't been dead a year yet, it was August 30th last year, it was her husband who died nearer two years ago.
