Two games were picked by all of us and one game was picked by no-one to give us 3 winners with 6/8 .. paper_aero was one of them, a welcome change from back-to-back wooden spoons.
We had yet another edition of musical chairs as only three players kept their spot from the previous round. ElfTwinkle joins the three out front to make it a party of four who are two points ahead of a peleton of six (down from 8 runners in the previous two rounds). From there there's another gap of 2 pts to the rest of the field.
Brexit v2 (England are out), the elimination of the defending titleholders (Spain are out), and the Icelandic fairytale sees 16 of us lose one of our four semi-finalists .. and two of those 16 have lost two semi-finalists, which means no-one has four live picks remaining. The quarter-finals start on Thursday 30th June:Poland v Portugal

Two blanks in this round saw five wooden spoons with 2/8 and just the one winner, N-Bomb. The comp's leader collects his first wooden spoon and the pack of five out front are now separated by 4 pts (down from 5 pts in the previous round).
Both semi-finals were decided in regulation time, without going to extra-time or a penalty-shootout lottery. The final of Euro 2016 will be played on Sunday. The home team and hosts should start favourite:
Portugal v France
Everyone except the two at the rear can finish on the podium as they're less than 8 points behind 3rd place. When advance picks are taken into account, the number of possible medallists is reduced, as only 4 players have a live pick for the final with their advance pick (they've all chosen France).
No-one can get maximum pts with their three advance picks, as no-one picked both finalists (see post above this one). One more round and it's, umm, all over! |

France started as favourites in the final but lost to Portugal after extra-time. The last time Portugal beat France, in any competition, was some 41 years ago on 26th April 1975 when they won a friendly game played in Paris by 2-0.
Euro 2016 was the 15th edition of the UEFA European Championship. Portugal won their first-ever Euro title in their second appearance in a final (they lost the 2004 final 0-1 against Greece); and became the 10th different country to win the title: Germay and Spain three each, France two, and one each by Denmark, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Netherlands, Portugal and USSR.
No-one picked the winner to score 4 pts with their advance pick. The four players who chose France received the consolation prize of 2 pts.
paper_aero was this round's winner with 5/8 .. he picked the HT and FT results (ditto George95), plus one of the finalists plus the loser. He flew along the inside lane from 15th all the way to 6th to fall just 3 pts short of the podium when he lunged at the finish tape. There were no ties in the standings from 1st all the way through to 18th .. any of us on equal points were separable on HoF vs. WS countbacks.
illiniman14 won the wooden spoon race with four of them, paper_aero won a weekly award in 5 of the 9 rounds and all of us collected a bonus point except for Howie72.
Apart from Round One when there were a few wild elbows as we jostled for positions, the three on the podium were the only players who had a go as leader .. srini701 and gtho4 have finished on the podium in prior Euro tipping comps, but for AlonsoKing it was his first: Gold Silver Bronze
