Come one, come all to the Roland Garros courts in beautiful Paris, France, home of the French Open.

Will gtho4 (women's) and illiniman14 (men's) retain their titles, or will someone new etch their name on the gold medal? The only tipper to etch their name on any back-to-back was our own ElfTwinkle in 2007/2008 (she is also the only one to win twice).

Tipping threads are up, but the draws will not be announced until May 15.

  • Should we start with Garbine Muguruza winning her first Grand Slam title or with Serena Williams being stopped for the second Slam in a row in the finals? confused Or should we start with 4 unseeded women making it to the quarterfinals, which effectively tore our picks to shreds? crazy Or do we start instead with N-Bomb winning his first-ever title here in any grand slam women's comp? smile or maybe paper_aero missing a comp here after ages??
  • It turned out to be a very eventful French Open this year with lots of firsts and records. Garbine Muguruza became only the 3rd Spanish woman ever, and the first in 18 years (after Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in 1998) to win any Grand Slam title. Serena Williams did well to reach the finals, but for the second Slam in a row now, she has been stopped from getting closer to Steffi Graf's mark of 22 Grand Slam singles titles. The feisty lady promised to continue her quest....who's to say she will or won't surpass Graf's mark?
  • 4 unseeded women made it to the last 8...2 of them ranked outside the top 100, the first time in a Slam it has happened...world number 58 Kiki Bertens became the first woman from Netherlands to make it to the last 4 of a Grand Slam since Betty Stove did it in Wimbledon in 1977 shocked
  • N-Bomb had won 2 Grand Slam comps in all these years, both in the men's sections (2011 Wimbledon and 2015 US Open)...Apart from one bronze in 2011, he was never among the medals in the French Open...But he finally ticks off one more in his wins column by taking home this year's comp, riding on one solid pick....he will be officially awarded his title only if he posts here what made him pick the 60th ranked Yelena Putintseva to reach the quarters grin grin .... for the record, Putintseva had never gone beyond the 2nd round in any slam before, nor had she a splendid clay court season coming into the French (Kiki Bertens at least had a 10 match winning streak going!)
  • Dizart had the most number of right picks amongst us (7/15 sick) and that helps him land the silver. ozzz2002's pick of Sam Stosur sees him take the bronze despite getting only 4/15 picks right crazy The tie-breaker scores separated illiniman, ElfTwinkle and srini701, while George95 scored all his points courtesy of Serena Williams and landed the year's spoon.

  • I thought I had completed this frown shocked
  • Among the many things that a certain Roger Federer has achieved or the streaks he has put together in his stellar career, one that he must have been proud of is the consecutive appearances at Grand Slam main draws. The last major main draw that Federer failed to make was at the 1999 US Open, when he lost in the second round of the qualifying. Since then he has appeared in 65 consecutive majors before his body finally told him to take a break crazy paper_aero has had an equally "stellar career" here in our tipping comps in virtually every sport over the last 7-8 years (or more confused ??) before he decided to take a break too! hmmm...hoping it was just a one-off for our star too grin .....
  • Importantly, on the courts, Novak Djokovic has finally put to rest the one last remaining question about his own greatness and place among the all-time greats of the sport. He finally becomes only the 8th man ever to complete the career Grand Slam and the first man since 1969 to simultaneously hold all four major titles after winning his first title at Roland Garros. Hats off to a great champion!
  • Andy Murray did his best to reach the finals, but that was about it. Only 1 of us here did NOT pick Djokovic to win the title, but only 3 of us picked Murray to even reach the final...so Murray did a very commendable job indeed wink
  • We also fared a lot better than in the women's section. Between us we picked 7 of the 8 quarter finalists, with Albert Ramos-Vinolas the only unknown name making it. Dominic Thiem and David Goffin had their takers too, and the players rewarded their backers here by helping both get on the podium smile
  • ElfTwinkle had Thiem making it to the last 8 and she picked 6 of the 8 quarter finalists. This helps her coast to a comfortable win over illiniman14, who landed the silver helped by his pick of Goffin. N-Bomb made it a profitable French Open for himself this year by taking the bronze in the men's section after his gold in the women's section. Some "funny" picks again (Thompson who??) ensured ozz2002 finished with the spoon ahead of srini701 (who "tried an ozzz" by going for a certain Pouille mad sick )
  • More importantly for us here...ElfTwinkle is now 2/2 in the men's section of the Grand Slams in 2016 after her win in the Australian Open too...Djokovic is also 2/2....their "BIG" test will come on the grass at Wimbledon in July wink

    See you all then....
