I'm writing my first matching quiz. Everything seems to be working just fine. I type the info, and save, with no problem. But when I try to review my work, I get an error message - shown below - and the screen freezes. I have to X out of the screen. Then I can go back and continue working on the quiz - until the next time I try to review.

I may have input this error myself. This error didn't appear the first time I reviewed the quiz. But then I tried typing a hint into the "hint" box. Long story, and likely not pertinent, but I can continue, if you want. anyway, here's the error message:

Quiz is malformed
A blank answer has been detected in quiz 381744. Aborting.

I don't want to type a whole quiz, only to have it die on a vine. Do I submit it as is - unfinished - with a comment to ed? Or...?

Thanks

You almost certainly cannot submit it unfinished!

I suggest that you enter the entire thing before trying to preview. For matching quizzes, the preview only shows you the question and answer screen, so that information all needs to be there. You do not see the information in preview (at least, not at the moment - a change to the template has been requested, but it has not yet happened, and it may be too difficult for technical reasons), so all you would need to enter to see the preview screen would be your ten questions and answers.

If it still isn't happy, try typing "Information goes here." in the information box. The system will complain if you do not capitalise and finish with a full stop. You can then see the Q&A screen. Do not put anything in the Hint box, as it is not relevant for this quiz format.

If you still have no luck, try sending a message with the quiz name to an editor in the category where it is listed - they could try to have a look at it and see what might be going awry.

I'd suggest just not previewing - the quiz looks normal otherwise, and when I saved it, it saved normally.

Save all your work on your own computer in case something goes kablooey when it's put online, and we'll just edit and put it online in the usual way. When it's finished, of course.

Or, if you'd rather, save all your work on your own computer, and get an editor to delete this template for you. Then you can just slot it into a new template and proceed as if none of this ever happened.

Have a look at your quiz now. I've inserted answers 6411 to 6416 where you
had blanks (aka you haven't yet inserted the answer to those questions).

There's nothing wrong with the quiz template, and the preview now works aok.
