This year's edition of the FLC tipping comp starts in less than three weeks. It runs for 9 months, plus a day, over 46 rounds from Saturday 6th August 2016 until Sunday 7th May 2017. This is still the longest comp run here at FT in terms of number of rounds, but is not the longest in expired time from start to finish. That honour belongs to the FAPL and FT-PL comps.

There are a few changes to the rules .. they're the same as last year, except that bonus picks are now worth a point each (instead of ½ pt), bonus for solo weekly winner introduced, the bonus for 8/12 is gone and the bonus for perfect picks 10+/12 has been lowered to 9+/12:

    		 one point for each correct pick .. home win, draw, away win.
    if you forget to pick, the away teams are all yours; but if the wooden spoon
    score is more, you receive the WS score.
    if you pick a game solo or 1 of 2, you score a bonus point.
    9/12 or higher receives a bonus point (plus a knighthood from Her Majesty).
    no one picks win, whoever picks a draw;
    no one picks draw, whoever picks the upset win*
    solo weekly winner or one of two.
    weekly wins vs. wooden spoons countback determine podium finishes; if the
    differential is the same, it's most weekly wins; if they're identical, then bonus
    points will be used. If they're also the same then it's a tie.
    if you pick all home teams (or all bar one) or you're running default, you're
    ineligible for bonus points.
    * doesn't apply where home win picks and away win picks are equal
All of the 24 teams in the FLC have previously played in the FA Premier League, except for two .. and 11 of them have been crowned champions of England, the most recent being Blackburn Rovers in 1995 and Leeds United in 1992 (see post below this one). This will be the 11th edition of the FLC tipping comp (good grief). Howie72 is the defending titleholder:

Three years ago we had a field of 20 runners .. 17 came back for another dose, and three were MIA -- ren33, trev1 & szabs. We failed to snare or attract a newbie. The year after there was one no-show, KrivoyRog, which gave us a field of 16 runners and, again, we failed to attract a new runner.

Last season year we again failed to snare a newbie .. 15 were back for another dose, BxBarracuda was a no-show and we welcomed back two travellers: KrivoyRog returned after a one-year holiday and ElfTwinkle returned after a six-year holiday .. which gave us a field of 17 runners for that comp.

We had 16 runners line up at the gate for this year's comp, down one from last year .. KrivoyRog & LeoDaVinci were no-shows, and we finally snared a newbie: nasty_liar makes his debut appearance. He's been a life-long Terrier (aka a Huddersfield Town supporter), a mere 19 miles down the M62 from Leeds, where PaulE pays homage to The Mighty Whites. These two will get on like a house on fire, lol wink They'll be at opposite ends of the stadium in the two local derbies.

The field of 20 for the 2012-13 comp four years ago is the all-time high for the FLC comp (this year is the 11th edition).

Howie72 and srini701 ran away with this last year and finished 2 pts apart at the top of the pile. Dizart and Sypher finished in a dead-heat for third. Dizart won the bronze medal in a countback.

Howie72, the defending titleholder, starts the new season two pts behind the early leader, as does srini701, the silver medallist last year (these two ran away with last year's comp). FussBudget, who finished in the bottom half last season, starts the season with a bang. He was the only weekly winner with 10/12, which is just the 19th time someone has picked 10/12 in 460 odd FLC rounds over the last 11 season.

Between all 16 of us we averaged a strike rate of 56.8% .. a rare feat. It has only been bettered 10 times in this comp (see post above this one).

That's one down. We have another 45 laps until we greet the judges at the finish post .. in May 2017!

Two games were picked by no-one and five were picked by three or fewer, leaving 5/12 as the maximum score by mere mortals .. ozzz2002 picked three of those upsets to end up with 6/12 and the weekly win, whilst last week's leader collects a wooden spoon. No-one picked these two results:

    1-2 Newcastle v Huddersfield
which is a surprise, as I presumed one of us had picked that second one. However, when I started putting the results post together, I found I was wrong! Meanwhile, these ended up being prophetic words, posted above after last week's results:

ozzz2002 flies up the table from 12th to 5th and the deficit of 7 pts behind the early-season leader, FussBudget, is now just one solitary point! 1st to 12th are still separated by 5 pts, but the three runners at the rear of the field are starting to float away .. they're now 3 points adrift of the field. Three players score the weekly win with 8/12. One of them is FussBudget, who collects his 2nd win in three and resumes front-running duties.

The three at the rear of the field have rejoined the peleton, but now we have five out front who've broken away from the rest of us.

No-one kept their spot from the previous round, apart from the two tail-enders. It was almost a perfect rendition of musical chairs.

We now have no teams in the FLC with a 100% win record. The four which had won both of their opening games either lost or were held to a draw: QPR, Bristol City, Fulham and Huddersfield. At the other end, we had five teams with a 100% loss record. We now have just two teams who've lost every game: PNE and Blackburn.

The first seven players are separated by 5 pts. From there we have a gap of 2 points to the peleton of 9 players (they're separated by a mere 4 pts). ElfTwinkle, who collected her 2nd spoon in four, is 2 pts adrift at the rear of the field.

Last week saw the four teams with a 100% win record held to a draw or lose. This week the two teams who'd lost every game rid themselves of their 100% loss record. PNE beat QPR away in a huge boilover (picked by no-one), and Blackburn drew at home 2-2 with newly promoted Burton Albion .. and this one's for the true believers: Wednesday v Leeds 0-2.

After four rounds Blackburn are the only team without a win and just five teams are undefeated: Huddersfield, BHA, Wolves, Norwich and Fulham.
