One of the earliest quizzes I wrote has been moved from the category into which it was originally submitted back in 2013. The move appears to have happened this calendar year. I spoke to the original editor, but he didn't know anything about it, and besides it was moved to a category that he is not responsible for. I'd like to find out more about it, and why it was moved. Can any editor move any quiz, or is that at the admin level? Or Terry?

Any editors can move any quizzes in their respective categories, and will usually do so to find the best fit for the quizzes. The general rule of thumb is that we place quizzes where we would expect people to look for them.

That said, there are many reasons why a quiz can move long after it's been placed online from the dissolving of earlier subcategories to the creations of better fits.

Wouldn't be able to give you any specifics-- I don't know what quiz it is-- but shifts aren't done without reason.

This has probably happened to more of your quizzes than you realize, it's very common.

Please also keep in mind that it is the editor's final say as to where things ultimately get categorized. We're more than willing to help get your quiz to a destination you want, but we aren't willing to bend the rules unless a swap is justified.

Well, Kyle, the quiz has already been moved to a different top-level category, sometime this year, without my knowledge, so if any rules were broken, it had nothing to do with me.

So let me get some more clarification. So say a quiz called "Mishmash" published in 2008 in Sports gets moved to Video Games in 2016 (which isn't what happened; I'm using an arbitrary and nonsensical example). The Sports editors don't know anything about it. So that means a VG editor saw "Mishmash" and decided, based on some criteria, it was a better fit in his category and moved it (without informing the Sports editors or the author). Is that the gist of how it works?

You can tell who moved a quiz by looking at the quiz history on the edit screen, I believe. If you have a case to make to the editor involved, send a PM and make it. At the very least you will get an idea of the reasons behind the move. You can be sure there are reasons.

Okay, I'll pursue it privately, of course. But what I outlined above, is that how it works?

No. Unless an editor works in both categories, they can't pull a quiz from the first category; editors can only edit in queues they are assigned to.

Either a discussion was had between editors and your quiz was moved for a reason that they mutually decided upon or it was moved by a single editor cleaning up between two categories they have access to.

The process is a bit irrelevant though; it made sense to go to another category and it was moved. Quizzes are moved quite frequently over the years, but to contact the authors for each one would be extremely time-consuming. Our editors are simply doing what's best for the quizzes in these cases. If a quiz originally in the Ireland subcat of Geography makes more sense in 'Mixed Ireland' in General, then it will be moved there based on the content. The site evolves constantly.

We use whatever process seems best to us at the time. That would very rarely mean contacting the author, it's neither practical nor necessary.

One of the criteria for choosing editors is that they be reasonable people with good judgement. They are then usually trusted to use that judgement.
