ElfTwinkle continues the roller coaster run of weekly wins and wooden spoons by picking up the former this week to propel into 8th place. Howie72 grabs back onto the lead solo for the first time since week 3. The top 5 are all separated by a point each except for a tie for fifth with George95 and yoyoandcigs. To show how busy these past few weeks have been, illiniman14 forgot to put in picks for his own comp. gtho4 picks up his first spoon of the year, which means that George95 is one week away from setting the new record of most consecutive spoonless weeks.
A few bonus points were handed out this week. To help mitigate his spoon, gtho4 picked up a solo bonus and underdog bonus alongside wwe84 for a previously-stagnant Oregon victory over #12 Utah on the road as a 14-point underdog. ElfTwinkle picked up 2 points for the underdog victory of #23 Florida taking out #16 LSU as a 14-point underdog. wwe84 narrowly missed out on two extra points as well as Michigan State fell following a curious decision to go for a 2-point conversion late in the game against #2 Ohio State and losing 17-16.
Thursday gave us our first big upset, as #5 Louisville came up with an egg against a finally-healthy Houston, going down 36-10. #14 West Virginia and #22 Washington State both fell to higher-ranked opponents. For the most part, the top 25 stayed intact this week. One notable upset outside of the top 25 was an already-struggling Texas fighting for a bowl game against 1-9 Kansas, who hadn’t beaten the Longhorns since 1938. But Kansas came up big in overtime and came out the victor 24-21.
CFP Rankings are unchanged from last week: CFP Rankings: #1 Alabama; #2 Ohio State; #3 Michigan; #4 Clemson (but Ohio State-Michigan looms this coming week)

According to the record book, ozfei's record is 94 weeks. Still one week to go to break it, I think.

The musical chairs at the top of the standings keep our leaderboard in flux, as N-Bomb takes the top spot this week as Howie72 struggles a bit with his picks. Sypher and Howie72 are now tied for second only 1 point out of first, while yoyoandcigs matches his all-time high in 4th place, now tied with Dizart there only 2 back of gold. George95 and gtho4 are both within sight of the lead, and if ElfTwinkle keeps up the weekly wins (with another this week) and bonus points, we could see yet another name in play for the podium. The spoon was taken by ozzz2002 this week, meaning....
George95 has now set the record for most consecutive weeks without a spoon! (after a few false start penalties on your comp organizer) He began this comp in 2011, and in that span of time has never collected a single spoon, and he passes ozfei’s NFL record of 94 straight weeks to go to the top of the record book. Congrats!
The first bonus points were given away early on Friday, as NC State started off Rivalry Week right, taking down North Carolina 28-21 as an 11-point underdog, netting gillyharold an extra 2 points. Then, as rumors swirled about if #20 Houston’s head coach already had a deal in place to become LSU’s new head coach (he didn’t, but after the game would actually be hired by Texas), Memphis took advantage of the disarray and won 48-44 as a 10-point underdog, giving Sypher, yoyoandcigs, and ElfTwinkle all bonus points. All #19 Boise State had to do was win to get in the MWC Championship, but an Air Force 27-20 win gave ElfTwinkle and wwe84 both solo bonuses. Finally, wwe84 also cashed in as Mississippi State prevented their rival Mississippi from getting an automatic bowl bid, leaving them both at 5-7 in a 55-20 rout. The only game everyone agreed on was (unsurprisingly) #1 Alabama’s 30-12 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl.
Several conference championship spots were up for grabs, none more prominent than the Big Ten. #2 Ohio State and #3 Michigan played into overtime for the first time in rivalry history, and after 2 overtimes the Buckeyes came out on top 30-27. Ohio State could only make the championship game if #7 Penn State lost (due to tiebreaker), and though Michigan State led early the Nittany Lions completed their upset bid for the Big Ten East title. In the Big Ten West, #6 Wisconsin had to win or have #16 Nebraska lose, and both happened. Nebraska played earlier and completely fell on their faces, getting destroyed by Iowa 40-10. Wisconsin won 31-17 over Minnesota in any case.
Both spots in the Pac-12 Championship were up for grabs, as the North Division would be settled in the Apple Cup, where #5 Washington crushed #23 Washington State 45-17. The South would be won by #9 Colorado, who would have lost a tiebreaker to #12 USC but it became moot as they defeated #22 Utah 27-22. Wyoming opened the door for #19 Boise State to win the MWC Mountain Division by losing to New Mexico State, but the Broncos failed to deliver and lost their spot in the championship. Undefeated #21 Western Michigan still faced the threat of missing the MAC Championship Game with a loss to Toledo, but came out with a 55-35 victory. North Carolina’s loss meant Virginia Tech was guaranteed a spot in the ACC Championship against #4 Clemson. The big upsets of the weekend (which had no championship implications) were Kentucky hitting a late field goal to beat #11 Louisville 41-38, and Vanderbilt virtually shut out #17 Tennessee in the second half to win 45-34 and become bowl eligible.
CFP Rankings changed slightly from last week: #1 Alabama; #2 Ohio State; #3 Clemson; #4 Washington.

1. A Canadian achieves a wonderful feat 2. An Australian praises him for that 3. An American and a Britisher discuss the Australian's comments 4. An Indian reads these and has a good laugh to start his day This site is "bloody" amazing too to bring us all together on the same page!

In an unbelievably accurate conference championship weekend, if you didn’t get a perfect score, you didn’t end up with the weekly win. However, gtho4 did just that and enters the record books (as well as Howie72 and dg_dave for a nearly perfect round). Howie72 also heads out to first place in our continual roller coaster at the top. N-Bomb picked only 1 underdog this week, and so was prevented from earning the near perfect bonus point, and because of that he sits tied for third instead of second. Only wwe84 picked below double digits this week, and picks up the spoon because of it. This is the third time he’s received a spoon despite hitting half in the round.
Because we had such high scores, there were no solo bonuses nor any big underdogs winning. #17 Western Michigan avoided a mind-blowing upset by intercepting a ball on Ohio’s final drive, giving them a perfect season and depriving wwe84 of a bonus point. wwe84 was also very close to another solo bonus, as #16 West Virginia eeked out a win over Baylor 24-21. ElfTwinkle and ozzz2002 also nearly added a couple bonuses, but Wyoming couldn’t overtake San Diego State and lost 27-24.
The conference championships, as our success shows, went somewhat as expected. #1 Alabama crushed #15 Florida 54-16; #3 Clemson beat #23 Virginia Tech 42-35; and #4 Washington cruised over #8 Colorado 41-10. #7 Penn State put some pressure on the committee by winning its ninth game in a row by beating #6 Wisconsin 38-31. The only conference championship won by an underdog was in the AAC, as Temple smoked #19 Navy 34-10.
The coaching carousel has already started. Temple’s Matt Rhule has been rewarded for consecutive 10-win seasons as he now takes over Baylor. Houston’s Tom Herman, as reported last week, has taken the Texas job. LSU stuck with their interim head coach Ed Orgeron. Western Kentucky’s Jeff Brohm capitalizes on his C-USA championship and now heads to Purdue. Indiana fired their head coach for player abuses but promoted their defensive coordinator to the top spot. Oregon and Cincinnati are the current big schools out there without a head coach in place.
The College Football Playoff is set. #1 Alabama has chosen to go through the formalities on the way to another championship, and will play #4 Washington in the Peach Bowl. For the right to lose to them in the championship game, #2 Clemson and #3 Ohio State will face either in the Fiesta Bowl.

Sypher pulls out of the slog to become the first tipper to earn a 3-point lead in 7 weeks, and he does it with only 1 round to go as we round out the bowl season with a weekly win. Howie72 falls down to second, and we have a 4-way tie for third. Any of those 6 could realistically win, although Sypher clearly has a big advantage. ozzz2002 picks up a spoon as he falls back into last place, while wwe84 picks up the most points this week with 4 bonus points.
It was a great start of the bowl season for underdogs, as half won out of our 16 games. Bowl games always yield some surprising results, with coaching changes and now players sitting out. Appalachian State started the festivities by defeating Toledo 31-28 as a 1-point underdog. Miami (OH) nearly had the biggest upset of the opening games, as they had a chance to kick a field goal and leave as a victor over 13-point favorite Mississippi State, but it was blocked and that dream died. Instead, Wake Forest took that mantle as a 12-point underdog against Temple (whose head coach left for Baylor in the interim) and left as 34-26 victors.
The biggest games are yet to come for the final round of bowl games, including the playoffs!

Sypher made his way out of the quagmire that was the top of the leaderboard in the first half of the bowls and held that 3-point lead in the final half to come out the victor – congratulations! There was a 3-way tie behind him, decided by total HoFs – of which N-Bomb had 4 so he earned the silver, while Dizart had 3 for the bronze, and Howie72 only had one to miss out on the podium.
Despite the 3-point margin of victory, it actually came down to the final game to determine who would win. N-Bomb was the only tipper to take #14 Auburn over #7 Oklahoma, and while Auburn kept it close for the first half (down 14-13 at intermission), they hit a scoring drought and Oklahoma came out an easy victor in the Sugar Bowl 35-19, giving Sypher 1 point and avoiding N-Bomb getting the point, the solo bonus, and a near perfect bonus as his 13th correct pick.
George95 completed his sixth consecutive season without a spoon and now sits at a record 98-straight weeks. With two spoonless weeks to start next season, he will become the first tipper ever to have a triple digit streak without a spoon – a tremendous accomplishment.
dg_dave earned his third weekly win this week as the only tipper to earn a near perfect bonus this week. illiniman14 and ozzz2002 both earned spoons this week as they both went for some unique picks to move up the leaderboard in a last ditch effort. Nobody earned a solo or underdog bonus – illiniman14 and ozzz2002 were the closest as South Carolina lost in overtime to South Florida which would have earned them both bonus points. wwe84 and ozzz2002 both saw Arkansas drop to #22 Virginia Tech 35-24; N-Bomb saw Auburn lose by 16, and ElfTwinkle went for the ultimate upset but watched as #4 Washington fell 24-7 to #1 Alabama.
#1 Alabama may have won, but the most impressive performance of the bowl season was #2 Clemson and their complete trouncing of #3 Ohio State 31-0. This late momentum, coupled with Alabama dismissing their offensive coordinator to “allow” him to undertake his duties as the next coach at Florida Atlantic, could possibly open the door to Clemson getting revenge for last year’s championship game loss… but no, I don’t believe that at all (and I bet dg_dave doesn’t either).
Thanks to everyone for a great season and I look forward to seeing you back next year!

One can hope and dream...I am not a Nick Saban fan...would love to see him lose next week! Go Clemson!
