. Between us we had an average strike rate of 36% .. due to the abnormal number of draws (5 of 8 games) and the loss by Bayern, which was picked by no-one. It's our lowest strike rate all season.
PaulE followed up his perfect pick with a 2/8 wooden spoon. He wasn't alone .. we had 8 spoons awarded in this round! N-Bomb and srini701 collected their first spoon of the season.
AlonsoKing was this round's winner, solo .. his first weekly win of the season. He jumps up 5 places from 12th to equal 7th. He scored a bonus point for picking a draw, solo, Rostov v Bayern, as no-one picked the upset win by the Russian team.
ozzz2002 scored his first bonus point, leaving just three blanks in that column: toocool4u, paper_aero & Sypher. Everyone has a weekly win or a wooden spoon except for ElFtwinkle, who has a blank in both of those columns.

. Last round's strike rate of 36% was our lowest all season. This week we went one better .. we averaged a mere 31.7% between us and set a new low-water mark for the season..
Two games were a unanimous 15-0-0 .. all of us got both of them wrong .. and only one game was in double figures for correct picks.
N-Bomb and gtho4 were the weekly winners with just 50% correct (lowest for the season) and there were two spoons with 1/8 .. for ElfTwinkle it was her first, which means everyone now has either a weekly win or a wooden spoon.

. toocool4u is this round's winner with a near-perfect 7/8 .. his only miss was the win by Legia Warsaw. He collected a bonus point for the draw at Real Madrid and is now a mere point behind the leader (it was 3 pts at the end of the previous round).
From there there's a 3 pt gap back to the 6 players running 3rd to 8th, who are separated by 4 pts.

. Dizart and Sypher collected a wooden spoon each in the previous round. This time they scored a weekly win, their 1st for the season. The other two weekly winners were srini701 and gtho4.
ozzz2002 collected back-to-back wooden spoons, to make it six for the season. He leads the spoon race by a country mile.
gtho4 retains the lead, 6 points clear of the peleton of five players. They're separated by 2 pts, down from 3 pts in the previous round.

Barcelona were thumped 4-0 by PSG in the first leg, and needed to a history-making miracle to progress. No team has ever come back from a 4-0 drubbing in the 1st leg of a Champions League tie. It all looked over with three minutes to go as Barcelona were leading 3-1 (3-4 behind on aggregate). They scored in the 88th and 90th .. and then completed the miracle when they scored again in 5th and final minute of injury time. They progressed to the quarter-finals 6-5 on aggregate (5-5 wouldn't have been enough, as PSG had scored an away goal). All of us picked Barcelona to win the second leg.
Nobody picked the draw Atletico v Leverkusen, but dg_dave picked an win by Leverkusen to collect a bonus point.
The other miracle was across the Channel in England, where the Leicester fairytale continues. They won their first-ever FAPL last year and, in their first-ever Champions League season, came back from 1-2 down in the 1st leg against Sevilla with a 2-0 win (3-2 on aggregate) to progress to the quarters. Three players picked the win for a bonus point: George95, srini701 and gtho4.

. We had six weekly winners with a mere 3/8. Howie72 scored his first weekly win and srini701 scored back-to-back wins.
Two wooden spoons with 1/8 leaves the rest of the field (all five of us) with 2/8. For the last three rounds Sypher has gone spoon-win-spoon. Let's see if that trend continues with a win next week.
Between us we had an average strike rate of just 28.8%, a new low for the season.
A round of upsets saw 13 bonus points awarded .. two of the eight games were picked by no-one and only one of the eight had correct picks in double digits. Sypher & paper_aero scored their first bonus pts for the season, which plugged the last two blanks in that column.

They need to win the return leg in Spain 4-0, or 3-0 to force the tie into extra-time. If Juventus score a a goal they'll need to win 5-1, as 4-1 won't be enough .. the tie will be 4-4 on aggregate and Juventus will progress on the away goals rule. No-one has picked Barca to win the comp (scroll back to see summary of our advance picks).
The return legs of the quarter-finals are next week: UEFA ( 16 ) Tue 18th April. From there we have three rounds to the finish post .. the semi-finals on 2nd and 19th May, home and away, and then the final on Sat 3rd June at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff .

. A round of upsets saw an average strike rate of just 20.8%. It's our third-worst-ever since the Champions League tipping comp started 14 years ago, back in 2003. Worst and next worse are 16.6% and 13.4% as shown in the table above.
Between us we had 96 picks and just 20 of them were correct. All 20 are shown above, at the top of this post, in blue. Every single correct pick is shown .. and 11 of those 20 were solo picks!
Two players picked 0/8 and collected a wooden spoon each .. they didn't even beat default. The six players who failed to lodge picks chose the right round to do it. Each of them scored 2/8, being the two away wins. One of those six was Sypher, who wasn't prepared to tempt fate .. over the previous three he'd gone spoon-win-spoon.
Out of that schmozzle three players picked 3/8 for the weekly win .. toocool4u is our new leader .. gtho4 has watched his lead of 6 points evaporate in just two rounds. The peleton behind the two out front of five players are separated by 3 pts (it was 4 pts last week).
Barcelona are out. They were thumped 3-0 in Turin by Juventus last week, and drew a blank 0-0 at home. Juventus will be joined by the two Madrid clubs and AS Moncaco in the semi-final draw tomorrow in Switzerland, Friday 21st at 12 noon local time.

I see you get more points for not bothering to enter than you do for giving it a go, fine, I'll give this a miss for the remainder of the competition. if you forget to pick, the away teams are all yours (ineligible for bonus pts),
however, you receive the WS score if it's more than the aways. Two away teams won, therefore, according to gtho4's post that I've quoted above, the ones who did not pick got two points. Wooden Spoon score was zero, and default is the higher of aways or Wooden Spoon. As two is greater than zero, defaulters got two points. In all honesty, in the twelve years I've been in comps, I've seen that happen less than five times...or averaging less than once every two years.

. dg_dave blitzed this round with 6/8. Sypher was next with 5/8 and the rest of us followed behind .. dg_dave, who scored 4/4 with his regular picks and 2/4 with his advance picks, joins toocool4u at the top of the pile, after an absence of 14 rounds. With just two rounds left, his superior countback figures may prove crucial at the finish post.
Howie72 collected the wooden spoon with 1/8 .. he scored 0/4 with his regular picks (his 1 pt was an Atletico Madrid advance pick).
The first three are separated by just one point, with a 2 pt gap back to paper_aero and wwe84, who are also separted by a single point.

. We had 12 players lodge picks in the 2nd last round: five scored a weekly win, 6 collected a wooden spoon, and one was in-between.
dg_dave scored back-to-back weekly wins and now leads solo with a 2 pt margin .. toocool4u collected a spoon and dropped back from equal first to equal second place. A further 2 pts back we have three players separated by just 1 point. The three podium finishers should come form those six players.

. PaulE finished the season with a perfect 8/8 and flew up the table from 7th to 4th. He missed the podium by a single point. He swapped places with N-Bomb, who collected the wooden spoon. PaulE became the 1st player to pick perfect 8/8 twice in the same season.
There were no changes out front: dg-dave retained first place to win gold, gtho 4 retained 2nd place to win silver, and toocool4u retained 3rd to win the bronze medal. This is the first-ever gold medal won by dg_dave in a sport outside North America! Ditto toocool4u .. this is his second-ever podium finish in a season long tipping comp. His first was silver in the 2015 NFL comp
dg_dave and wwe84 were the only players to reach double digits in bonus points. No-one finished with zero bonus pts. The best count- back figures were +4 by dg_dave and gtho4 .. and at the other end the biggest negative differential was -7 by ozzz2002.
