Golf legend Arnold Palmer passed away yesterday at age 87. Is it fitting it occurred on the final season day of the PGA, an organization grown huge in his shadow?
When I was young in the 50s, I earned money as a caddy. Arnold was a hero to all us bag carriers. Here's a plea to bring back caddies, no matter the insurance costs of their presence on golf courses. I'd suspect that golfers as a whole have pockets deep enough to bear the costs. If they don't carry bags, limit cart riding to single golfers and let the caddies act as drivers, course scouts and guides. That should speed up the game. If Twain had a caddy, his walk wouldn't have been spoiled but made more enjoyable.
Thanks for influencing my life in a good way Arnold, from an Army Camp follower.
