Thanks to decades of conservation work, the Giant Panda is no longer considered an endangered species in China, though they are still listed as vulnerable.

Sorry to dampen things, yes they are very cute, treated like kings because they make lots of money for China.
The opposite can be said for less cute, less money making animals in the country.
Maybe you should look at how Moon bears are treated, milked for their bile and kept in agonising conditions.

It is great to see another animal shift from endangered to vulnerable! It is a great feeling to know that conservation efforts can and do pay off. I recently had to change some information in one of my animal quizzes because the Iberian lynx is no longer critically endangered thanks to conservation efforts.

After reading Ren's post, I did a quick Google search on the moon bears. It is sad to see an animal exploited in that way, and in many different countries. It takes a lot of work to educate people and to get them to change their ways, especially when it would mean having to do without something that is seen as a cure for so many ailments. The unfortunate reality is that for every heartwarming positive story, there is at least one (if not many) opposite examples.

It's a cliche but you can learn the most about a person or a society about how they treat animals. Until their rights are equal then whatever the technology the people are not yet fully developed.
