I got some unkind feedback about a quiz today. What made it even worse is that it came with the "smilee Compliment!" label, but then it wasn't complimentary at all. They complained that I used a certain answer three times in the quiz, and that I should have come up with different questions. Well, that was one of the points of the quiz, that this animal is that extreme. I guess people are entitled to their opinion, and if they don't like it they can rate accordingly, but I thought there was some rule about how to go about providing feedback that didn't include telling an author what he should have written about, especially with the "Compliment" label. Very misleading.

Please leave the note in your inbox and an admin will deal with it. If it happens again you can contact an admin directly.

Something similar happened to me yesterday, just after my newest quiz went online. Someone sent a correction note, stating that I should change my answer because he/she was more familiar with a song of the same title by another artist I had never heard about. I refrained from confronting her, but was rather upset by the rudeness and presumption. If some people think they can write better quizzes, why don't they?

I think there is a way to give constructive feedback that can be given in a complementary way. For example, a few months ago there was a quiz that I really liked and that the author had obviously put in a lot of effort. However, there was one question that I thought would be dated in a couple of years. So I told the author that I liked the quiz but that I thought it could be improved, not based on something obscure but just based on what people are likely to remember. The author agreed with my reasoning, changed the answer, and IMO, improved it. So it is definitely possible to give feedback without being rude about it.

Admins will deal with actual rude notes, absolutely. Rudeness and incivility are not tolerated here.

However, if someone sends you a note that you just don't like, you are under no obligation to answer it or listen to it or even read it all the way to the end. Just delete and move on. They're allowed to have opinions, and you're allowed to pay no attention to their opinions.

I have noticed if you use the "send author a detailed note" link at the end of a quiz. It defaults to the compliment button. So it is possible they just opened the form and started going without actively flagging the message.

Speaking for myself, I'd strongly advise not putting that much thought into it.

When you create things and put them out into the world, some people are not going to like them. And that's OK. But there is no law that says you have to pay close attention to their opinion.

Exactly this. What we have here is a bunch of posts trying to analyze why a player used a specific method to convey a specific message...but none of it really matters. If it wasn't a correction, you're under no obligation to regard it. End of story.

If it's actually offensive, forward it to an admin. Otherwise, we're not looking to lay out for people what they can and can't write in a personal message.

Take their feedback how you want. If you choose not to take that feedback, we won't stop you. Just like we won't stop them.

I created a very simple quiz in the "For Children" category, yet received a one word comment "Yawn!" from an adult player. I ignored it as it was just plain rude. Too much going on in the world to get upset by an ingnoramus, although sometimes there is a fine line between rudeness and spite. It is up to the individual to distinguish between the two and report to admin as necessary, or ignore it and get on with things that matter.

Greetings,

Constructive criticism is one thing, but anything rude, bullying, or just generally snarky is not to be tolerated. Terry is very serious about this subject as well as the long time members. I would suggest bringing it to an administrator's attention, but then just forgetting about it.
