World Cricket - 2016-17: November 3, 2016 to March 29, 2017This will be the 13th edition of World Cricket... Nobody has ever retained their title in the 12 years this comp has been run! .... srini701 sneaked home to the title at the very end of last season, and paper_aero and Howie72 might want to correct that. Howie72 is also running a small spoonless streak, though he has some way to go before challenging the 77 rounds (and over 5 years) of N-Bomb that got snapped last season. We will see 8 of the 10 Test teams in our comp over the next 4 months! 17 rounds till end of March, with more Test matches than ODIs this season. You will as usual pick 5 players for Test matches and 6 (or more) for ODI series from the list of players I will provide and score as many points as the runs/wickets by your selected player. A carefully chosen Trump player can double your points and boost your scores considerably. If you are not a regular visitor to the forums here, you can still lodge a team at the beginning of a series and allow it to score for you till a new series comes about. The new "super-sub" rule will continue to allow you to score for any player who you may pick but doesn't play... Most threads won't be up till a few days before a match/series and the comp may also involve some unannounced series and some big rounds in between (where 2 matches start on same/close by dates). 9 people played last season (2015-16), 10 turned up for 2014-15 and we had 9 in 2013-14. Hoping to better the participation numbers and to a good, fun competition... - Welcome to another edition of World Cricket...the same 9 who lined up last year have returned...pity serious cricket does not attract too many people here
There will be 19 rounds this season all the way to the end of March, so brace yourself for a long roller coaster ride
- Australia were on top for the first 2 days of their first Test against South Africa...it all went downhill after that and despite having their leading fast bowler Dale Steyn out for the rest of the tour, South Africa thrashed the hosts by over 170 runs to go 1-0 up in the series....why would you host a Test at a venue where your opponents have never lost a match?
....like Obelix would say, "these Aussies sure are crazy"
- Most of us had decent starts to our campaigns. srini701 and wwe84 differed only in their trumps and that is the only difference between them. gtho4 with a totally different side got off to a good start, unlike last year. We all managed to pick teams where everybody played, except illiniman14...he managed to pick 3 players who did not even make it to the ground! But despite having only 2 regular players (and a supersub) scoring for him, he still did better than ozzz2002, who was unlucky to see all his 5 players fail collectively....it was a very decent side that ozzz picked too
Supersubs scoring this round: Shaun Marsh for illiniman14
Next round is the India-England Test that starts Wednesday, November 9...please get your teams in before the Toss....

- The last time a completed Test was drawn in India was in 2012, when England toured. Since then India won 12 Tests and 1 Test was affected by rain. India started favorites in Rajkot against England, especially after England struggled against a rookie spinner in Bangladesh. But England turned the tables admirably, with 4 batsmen scoring centuries and their spinners doing better than India's. India would probably have heaved a sigh when they finally drew the Test.
- All the "main" players came to the party for both the teams...Alistair Cook, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Murali Vijay, Cheteswar Pujara, R Ashwin had a great Test and the meant bucketful of points for everyone of us....the very few "failures" in the Test....Rahane, Bairstow, Woakes, Broad, Ducektt...were the players who made the difference to our scores here...
- gtho4 had a second consecutive fantastic round, just falling short of the HoF again, but good enough to help him open up a sizeable lead at the top. Howie72 took the HoF this round and he moves into second spot. ElfTwinkle, N-Bomb and paper_aero all had very good rounds too. wwe84 was not so lucky, with a trump pick of Bairstow (and Chris Woakes in side as well) and he tumbles down with a spoon.
Supersubs scoring this round: None! We ALL had 5 players each who played the Test! Cheers!!
The next round has already started....and the 4th round will be a big one with a double Test coming up....it's these "double Tests" that seem to eventually make or break our cases here....

Over the next 4 months and the 19 rounds of this season, we will be picking teams as follows: 1. South Africa - 10 times 2. India - 10 times 3. Australia - 9 times 4. New Zealand - 8 times 5. England - 5 times 6. Pakistan - 5 times 7. Sri Lanka - 4 times 8. Bangladesh - 3 times Rather than say all the best picking Pakistan or Bangladesh teams, guess this season we should say "all the best picking the Australian teams" .....we only picked them 2 times so far!

- 5 Test defeats in a row...2 in their back yard. Batsmen unable to handle the swing and seam of opponent bowlers, who were themselves without their 2 most experienced and best players! No, we are not talking of Bangladesh or Zimbabwe or West Indies here....A new Australia is struggling to find its feet after Steve Smith and Adam Voges ran out of runs following a prolific 2015.....and to think they are set for a very long summer, facing Pakistan (home), India (away) and then the Ashes! All the best picking the Australian sides for the summer ahead
- Australia capitulated meekly to the South Africans for the 2nd time in a row (the Test went to 4 days only because an entire day was lost to rain) with only Smith and Khawaja putting up some semblance of a fight. Other than Starc and Hazlewood, their bowling also looked woeful most of the time
- We ALL had David Warner in our side (6 of us picked him as trump)...wwe84 had a very decent side but chose Duminy as his trump. gtho4 fell short of a HoF yet again, but continues to lead at the top. srini701's HoF puts him in 2nd spot for now. A long season awaits...the musical chairs can go on for some more time
Supersubs scoring this round: None Again! We ALL had 5 players each who played the Test! Cheers!!
The next round is our first "double-header." The New Zealand-Pakistan Test starts a day earlier than the India-England Test, so please do remember to lodge your picks before the match starts in Christchurch on Thursday, November 17 (it will be afternoon Wednesday, FT time).

- Rain washed out an entire day, but New Zealand still thrashed a clearly "short of match practice" Pakistan, with their debutants Jeet Raval and Colin de Grandhomme coming to the party. England fought real hard yet again, but their resistance crumbled on the last day and India duly went up 1-0 in the series... Virat Kohli scored 248 runs in the Test and the winning margin was 246 runs....
- ElfTwinkle went from spoon in the last round to a big HoF this round. srini701 is back to fron-running duties, but it's very tight among the first 5...one round can swing matters any which way. ozzz2002 takes home a second spoon for the season.
Supersubs scoring this round: Plenty! Tom Latham for gtho4 in place of Wahab Riaz, Trent Boult for srini701 in place of Wahab Riaz, Sami Aslam for illiniman14 in place of the very same Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan and Murali Vijay for ozzz2002 in place of Mohd Nawaz and Gary Ballance (ElfTwinkle had de Grandhomme as a supersub but all her 5 players got to play....hmmm.....)
The next round is again the double-header between these very same 4 teams. If you choose NOT to name squads, your current teams will still score when the Test between Pakistan and New Zealand starts on Friday, November 25. *************************************************

- The New Zealand-Pakistan Test seemed set for a draw going into the very last session of the last day. Pakistan were 158 for 1, chasing 370 for a win. And then in the space of a few overs, the whole team crumbled for no discernible reason, losing 9 wickets in the space of less than 2 hours to lose the Test and the series! Pakistan's first series defeat in New Zealand since 1985!!
- England won a crucial toss against India and their supporters at the ground let out a big cheer, as if that was half the battle won....England couldn't capitalize and managed to get themselves out for 283, when they should have scored 450+. Then they had India 6 down for 204....should have been a cracker of a match from there for England, right? Instead, England allowed the Indian 7, 8 and 9 to all score 50s and India had scored 400+. From there only one team could have won the Test, and India duly did so....no help from the pitch, thank you.
- ElfTwinkle picked up a second HoF in a row (a rarity in this comp), and has climbed to a new high for the season. N-Bomb and srini701 chose "weird" trumps which did not pay off in the NZl-Pakistan Test, but luckily for them there was one better than them...gtho4 chose not to name a team and ended up with his first spoon for the season to fall to his lowest for the season...There's still nothing between the top 5, but we are only 1/4th of the season done....
Supersubs scoring this round: Younis Khan, Tom Latham and Imran Khan (for paper_aero, gtho4 and ozzz2002 respectively) in place of the injured Trent Boult, who missed his first Test since 2012, and Sami Aslam for illiniman14 in place of Yasir Shah. ozzz2002 also had 2 players who did NOT play the India-England Test, but then he also managed to pick a supersub who did not play
A short break and the next round will be the 4th Test between India and England from December 8, before a series of double-header Tests to mark our comp here from December 15. Please make sure you name your team for the next round before Wednesday, December 7. *************************************************

- England won the toss yet again, batted first, and also posted 400 in their first innings....but they still couldn't help losing the Test by an innings! Virat Kohli continued to defy the odds and pile up runs by the bucketful (his scores this series reads 40, 49*, 167, 81, 62, 6*, 235
) and R Ashwin continues to take wickets by the dozens (literally, in this Test) and no matter how much James Anderson whinges and whines (http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-england-2016-17/content/story/1072098.html), this England team has been badly outplayed by a much better prepared and more aggressive India. This Indian team has now gone 17 Tests without a defeat and has won 5 series in a row under Virat Kohli.....
- paper_aero capped a good week of cricket for himself (he just won the other cricket comp in Ranji Trophy here) by bagging his first HoF here and moving up the ladder. 3 people managed to hog a 1000 points in a single Test
with our new leader ElfTwinkle and N-Bomb being the other "culprits" right on the money!
Supersubs scoring this round: None...though our spooner ozzz2002 could have managed one, had he chosen a better "sub" who played....and avoided the spoon as well.
The next round is again a double-header with Pakistan now in Australia. That Test starts Thursday, December 15. India-England square off in their final Test from Friday, December 16. - Pakistan were, well, Pakistan in their Test against Australia. Unpredictable, crazy, and swinging from one extreme to the other. They were 8 down for 90 something in their first innings, but then chasing 490 for a win, almost won the whole damn match! Australia escaped by the skin of their teeth to win by a meagre 39 run margin and maintain their Brisbane record...just about...
- England here scored over 450 runs in their first innings against India, and guess what...they still lost too....by an innings! and despite Pujara, Kohli and Vijay not scoring any runs too...The Indian spinners (Ashwin didn't get many wickets this match
) led by Ravindra Jadeja this match continued India's formidable run at home. This series is done and dusted 4-0 and India has another 5 Tests at home this season....Australia is next.
- Lost of shuffling in our table here. N-Bomb had a humongous round here and he becomes the 4th different player to go on top...in 7 rounds of the season. Who's next
. srini701, paper_aero, illiniman14 all had great rounds there, while ozzz2002 and ElfTwinkle also scored over a 1000 points this round and its all pretty jumbled in our ladder (don't be fooled by the margins...one good round can turn everything upside down). gtho4 changed his team for the India-England Test, but unfortunately, his move didn't click, and he ends up with a second spoon for the season.
Supersubs scoring this round: NONE for the India-England Test but 3 players did for the Australia-Pakistan Test. Azhar Ali scored a good 80 plus for ElfTwinkle instead of Sohail Khan, Sami Aslam scored for gtho4 (again instead of Sohail Khan), while ozzz2002 trumped us all, getting Mohd Amir to score a massive 160 points for him in place of this Mohammad "who" Nawaz...
The next round is the Boxing Day Tests in South Africa (who play a new look Sri Lanka) and the 2nd Test between Australia and Pakistan. New teams, so please get in before Christmas and lodge your teams. *************************************************

- Pakistan managed to lose the Boxing Day Test against Australia despite losing lots of time to rain and despite scoring over 440 runs in their first innings....The Australian commentators themselves were saying on the 4th day that the only 2 possible results were a Pakistan win or a draw. How could they lose by an innings then? Only Pakistan can explain that loss
Mitchell Starc came to the party on the last day of the Test (more than helping a couple of us here who had him as our trump player ) and Pakistan obliged him in a big way. Thank you very much. Sad thing is the possible retirement of the Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
- South Africa also won their Boxing Day Test though Sri Lanka was game on day one of the Test. Stephen Cook had a good Test (none of us picked him
) and Philander and Abbott bowled well and though the Lankans dug in, they were scrambling up a mountain after a bad effort on the field in the second innings.
- paper_aero was the only one here who backed Azhar Ali to come good, and after the rest of the Pakistani team failed collectively, was laughing his way to the HoF this round and up the ladder too. N-Bomb consolidated his position at the top a bit more, while wwe84 picked up a spoon despite a very good score.
Supersubs scoring this round: NONE. For a change, ozzz2002 dispensed with Mohammad Nawaz for the first time this summer after backing him 4 Tests in a row
The next round will be the same teams in the New Year Tests, and everybody has lodged picks. But after that, round 10 will be another tricky assignment as we pick a Bangladesh Test team. The Test starts January 12, but I will post the thread once the Bangladesh Test team is announced...stay tuned please. *************************************************

- Pakistan continued to be listless and despite Younis Khan's valiant effort of scoring centuries in 11 different countries (first man in Test cricket to do so), Australia won with plenty to score....David Warner hit a century on opening day before lunch (only the 5th man in history of Test cricket to do and the first in 40 years) and for good measure, scored a 50 in second innings in under 30 balls....basically toying with the bowling as he pleased
Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb continued their fine starts to Test cricket and in all, after the series defeat against South Africa, Australia would be pleased to have won a series 3-0....This Pakistan side was not expected to lose by that margin....but then, they have now lost 12 Tests in a row in Australia, so who's to say?
- South Africa comprehensively outplayed Sri Lanka in their second Test too, with Rabada taking 10 wickets and Dean Elgar and Quinton De Kock hitting centuries. "I was a little bit upset that Kyle couldn't get one or two wickets. I would have liked to see him do well in his last outing. But life is not perfect." That could well have been srini701 and wwe84 saying about Kyle Abbott, who announced his retirement from international cricket after the game, but unfortunately, they were said by his captain Faf Du Plessis
- srini701 picked a most listless side and thanks to Abbott's "wonderful" trump performance, takes the round's spoon, his first for the season. gtho4 takes the round's honours with both his trump players having a great 5 days either side of the Indian Ocean. N-Bomb stretches his lead at the top to the season's biggest margin, ahead now of ElfTwinkle.
Supersubs scoring this round: Younis Khan for ElfTwinkle and a listless Mohammad Amir for illiniman14, both in place of Sohail Khan.....huge difference of points for both
The next round starts Thursday, January 12, and the Bangladesh Test team has been announced...please get in and lodge your teams before the Toss. *************************************************

- Sri Lanka totally lost it in the 3rd Test against South Africa, lasting 88 overs in 2 innings of the Test and going down by an innings despite the Africans scoring only 400+.....On the other side, Bangladesh scored close to 600 runs in their first innings and still LOST the Test
... Poor Bangladesh ended up with the dubious record of having scored the most runs in the first innings a loss in Test history!
- But the match itself was quite entertaining and proved why a Test is not over till the very end...there was some good batting from Shakib, Mushfiqur, Latham and Kane Williamson...no great bowling efforts to write about
Hashim Amla scored a century in his 100th Test and Duminy also scored big, as all the scorers from the first 2 Tests in this series went to sleep
- srini701 and gtho4 swapped their spoons/HoF from last round, ozzz2002 finally vacated the cellar for the first time this season, and paper_aero moved to his highest position this season despite having only 4 players score for him the New Zealand-Bangladesh Test...he had 4 batsmen and his supersub was a batsman too...I had to ignore his last named batsman.
Supersubs scoring this round: Mominul Haque for gtho4 in place of Taijul Islam, and N Pradeep for ozzz2002 in place of Dilruwan Perera. Both did reasonably good!
The next round is the 2nd Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand that starts Friday, January 20. If you don't lodge a team, your team from the first Test will continue to score for you. *************************************************

- Bangladesh were again competitive for 3 days and then simply caved in after that...as in the first Test! Maybe they should only play 4-day Tests for better results
No centuries in the match, and the Kiwi captain had a very poor Test (much to the disappointment of a lot of people here) but New Zealand still won handily with more than a day to spare...
- srini701 picks up a second HoF on the trot (his 4th for the season), mainly because most of us had Kane Williamson as Trump. But he stays put in 4th place as our top 7 maintain status quo. ozzz2002 liked the warmth of the cellar so much he promptly took home another spoon (his 4th for the season) and went back there. wwe84 had a very good score too but it wasn't enough to break his HoF duck for the season...
Supersubs scoring this round: None....gtho4 had only 4 players, but his supersub also didn't play, and his designated 5th player took a catch as a substitute, earning him 5 points
The next round is the 5 match ODI series between Sri Lanka and South Africa, starting Saturday, January 28. The Lankans did not name their squad yet, and the home team named theirs for the first 3 matches. - South Africa had fun at the expense of Sri Lanka over the 5 match ODI series. The Lankans were never in the series except a token fight in the last 2 matches. With New Zealand beating Australia at home we should be in for a good ODI series next between South Africa and New Zealand (our next round here).
- illiniman14 started a minor revolution here by NOT using the "dreaded" "T" word and it seems to be catching on! He also hit it off well this round, getting almost 200 points more than the nearest guy, and he plugs one more gap in our HoF list, Only the two tailenders remain to get an HoF this season (7 more rounds to go, so hoping they will make it too). wwe84 went home with his 3rd spoons for the season to again swap places with ozzz2002 in the cellar. gtho4 went default this round.
- N-Bombs still leads, but paper_aero has very silently chipped away at the lead, and there's nothing again between the top 4 in our comp!
Supersubs scoring this round: srini701 managed to pick not one, but 2 players who did not turn up in any of the 5 matches .... He had Imran Tahir scoring some points for him.
The next round of scoring would be the one-off Test between India and Bangladesh but we have a very interesting series coming up between New Zealand and South Africa. Do lodge your teams to be in with a chance to score another bucketful of points! *************************************************

- Virat Kohli continues to defy all odds and expectations as a batsman and as captain. He becomes the first man in cricket to score double centuries in 4 consecutive Test series, going past a certain Don and Rahul Dravid....Under his captaincy, India has now gone 19 Tests without defeat, the fifth-best streak in Test history (for the record, West Indies went 27 Tests without defeat 1982-84).
- This is also the 6th Consecutive series win for India, their best streak in Tests. Since August 2015, India have won away series against Sri Lanka and West Indies, and have beaten South Africa, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh at home. Australia have now come calling for a 4-Test series starting February 23.
- ElfTwinkle, N-Bomb and srini701 all had the exact same side, and they share the round's honours. N-Bomb pulls a little ahead of paper_aero because of this. wwe84 slumps further behind with a second successive spoon.
Supersubs scoring this round: Ravindra Jadeja for Howie72in place of Jayant Yadav....nice sub
The next round would be the 5 match ODI series between New Zealand and South Africa starting February 19. Please make sure you lodge your tips in advance (series is in New Zealand). *************************************************

Switching the scoring to bring the Test match (posted as round 15) early. The ODIs between New Zealand and South Africa (posted as round 14) will become round 15 scores.
- India came back to the ground with a mighty thud that was most unexpected! They prepared well for Messrs Starc and Hazlewood and even Lyon, but instead, a little known left-arm spinner called Steve O'Keefe ran circles all around them. Imagine, there was no Instagram, no Whatsapp and no Twitter when Australia last won a Test in India
Australia last won a Test in India in 2004 and had lost their last 9 Tests in Asia. India were unbeaten at home since 2012 and had not lost their last 19 Tests....oh well...all good things must come to an end one day....this too shall pass
- Those of us picking Virat Kohli to score "double" here fared badly. Ashwin was a little better off. N-Bomb thus ends with a HoF and pulls a little more ahead of paper_aero. However, there's still nothing between the top 2. And just to spice up things a little between these 2 players, I have a round coming up that has 3 Tests
....should make for a great run to the finish line
- illiniman14 denied wwe84 a hat-trick of spoons by taking home his first for the season. ozzz2002 did not lodge tips this round.
Supersubs scoring this round: Wridhiman Saha in place of Usman Khawaja for gtho4.
The next round of scoring would be the 5 match ODI series between New Zealand and South Africa starting February 19. The next round of picks would be the second Test between these same sides starting Saturday, March 4. - It turned out to be a very closely fought series between two competitive sides. South Africa edged the series 3-2 to reclaim their number 1 position on the ODI table. Almost all the players we picked in our teams here had a good series, leading to some very decent scores for all.
- Howie72 takes the winner's award this round, but srini701 and N-Bomb weren't too far behind. paper_aero slips a little in his bid to catch up with the leader but with 4 rounds to go, this comp could still go down to the wire.
- illiniman14 could have scored more points had he not picked NT Broom, and so could ozzz2002, if he had only picked a 6th player too...gtho4 defaulted this round and wwe84 takes his 5th spoon for the season and 3rd in the last 4 rounds...
Supersubs scoring this round: None, though ozzz2002 could have had one scoring for him!
The next round of scoring is the second Test between India and Australia. The home stretch of the season will sees 3 Tests between New Zealand and South Africa, 2 between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and the last 2between India and Australia. Tipping threads for all are up. *************************************************

- It turned out to be a very fascinating Test match on a most vicious surface. India clawed their way back into the series after falling behind early, thanks mainly to their fast bowlers and the efforts of the man of the match KL Rahul. For the first time in Test history 4 different bowlers( Nathan Lyon, Ravindra Jadeja, Josh Hazlewood, R Ashwin) took six or more wickets in an innings in this match. The last 2 Tests should be crackers as well!
- paper_aero cut a little into N-Bomb's lead at the top with a winning performance. gtho4 slipped one more position closer to the cellar with a spoon score.
Supersubs scoring this round: srini picked M Vijay (who had scored centuries in 3 previous second Tests against Australia), only to see him injured on the morning of the match. He had Warner scoring a few points for him. gtho4 was with a default team from the first Test. He had Saha scoring some points in place of Khawaja. ozzz2002 had a nice supersub in the form of Ashwin scoring more than a few points for him in place of Jayant Yadav.
We enter the home stretch of our season and each of the last 3 rounds has at least 2 Tests (the penultimate round has 3 Tests!)....can paper_aero catch up with N-Bomb the way srini701 did last year, or can N-Bomb hold steady? we'll know in a few days...

- Bangladesh lost for the 76th time in their 99 Tests. They fight well over a couple of days but are somehow not able to put together a consistent show over 5 days...Kusal Mendis and Rangana Herath both had a great Test as Sri Lanka completed a comprehensive win over the Bangla Tigers. New Zealand unfortunately only had a moral victory to show against South Africa after rain washed out the entire 5th day's play. Dean Elgar had a great Test though!
- The entire lead of N-Bomb at the top is gone, and both paper_aero and srini701 are within striking distance of him now. One of srini701's "double" players, Tim Southee was dropped on the morning of the match, and srini scored a 0 for him, but he still managed to get the HoF for the round with all his other picks coming off for a change!
- gtho4 unfortunately had 4 players in his team of 10 who did not play the Tests and despite 2 supersubs scoring for him, ended up with a bad spoon to finish his descent from top to the bottom of the ladder.
Supersubs scoring this round: PLENTY, for most of us In fact, only N-Bomb, ElfTwinkle, and paper_aero did not have subs scoring for them this round.
The next round will be the make or break round, especially for the top 3....3 Tests at the same time can finish this comp once and for all Please do try and lodge your picks before the Test starts in Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The other 2 Tests start on Thursday.

- It was a great week of Test cricket everywhere! New Zealand were "scared" of the South African fast bowlers, not trusting their own good ones, and rolled out a slow pitch. And then rolled over in under 3 days to the South African spinners! Bangladesh showed tremendous guts and courage to fight back from their 1st Test debacle to make their 100th Test a memorable one. They won for only the 9th time thanks to a brilliant all round show from Shakib Al Hasan and good batting in both innings by Tamim Iqbal and Shabbir Rahman.
- Australia and India played out a great Test at Ranchi. After the controversies from the last Test, Steve Smith seemed determined to get one over on Kohli and he stamped his class in the first innings, staying unbeaten on 178 as the Aussies piled on 450. India then replied real strongly with Pujara scoring a double ton in a massive 525 balls (the longest in terms of balls faced against Australia). India batted over 210 overs, the longest Australia stayed on field in over 20 plus years! With India ahead by 150 runs it seemed a formality for the home spinners to run through the Aussie line up on the final day. But Peter Handscomb and Shaun Marsh displayed tremendous grit to last 62 overs on the last day and India finally had to settle for a draw. The last time an overseas team saved a Test in India after being over 150 runs in the arrears was in 2008, by England! Everybody expected Australia to lose 4-0. But here they are, winning one easily, almost winning the second before losing it and then showing they are more than just Smith, Warner and Starc. It's 1-1 going into the final Test and it's going to be a great finale to a great home season in India, the best in many, many years.
- This was a massive round for us here with 3 Tests. In a "make or break" round, N-Bomb probably sealed his win with some good picks. Picking Shakib as the trump/double scorer was probably a masterstroke. His other 2 trumps (Philander and Ashwin) didn't score enough, but his nearest rivals paper_aero and srini701 both had "worser" trumps and picks. N-Bomb leads paper_aero by 260 points, and it's going to take a miracle for the latter to overturn that margin in the final round now. srini701 is definitely settling for the bronze.
- illiniman14 had the best round of us all (Jadeja and Herath as trumps, and Shakib and Steve Smith in team as well) and he takes home the round's honours. gtho4 tried his damnedest best for the spoon (2 of his Trump players did not even play), but wwe84 still beat him to the spoon score.
Supersubs scoring this round: gtho4 and ozzz2002 had subs scoring for them. wwe84 had a sub who also did not play...
The final round is probably a formality for us here, and involves the final Tests of the season....the 3rd Test between New Zealand and South Africa and the final Test between India and Australia. Tests start Saturday, March 25.

- A great season of cricket came to an end with India winning a tight series against Australia 2-1 and with rain denying the New Zealanders the chance to square their series against South Africa. India ended up winning 10 of their 13 home Tests this season (1 loss 2 draws) and finish as the #1 Test side in the world. South Africa had a good year too, winning at home against Sri Lanka and away against both Australia and New Zealand to finish #2. Australia bounced back from their defeat to South Africa to beat Pakistan and ran India very close. They are certainly a team on the upswing under Steve Smith. New Zealand had a good home season too, beating Bangladesh and Pakistan before losing to South Africa. England lost badly to India and will probably be looking to rebound under their new captain Joe Root when their home season starts in May.
- Our comp here was all over bar the shouting after the last round. paper_aero did try to make a fist of it in the final round, but N-Bomb had a decent cushion and he wins the comp for the 3rd time (after 2011 and 2014-15). srini701 takes home the bronze. Howie72 finishes a very respectable 4th, but more importantly, he has now gone 3 full seasons without a spoon in this comp (last spoon for Howie was in early 2013-14). ElfTwinkle and illiniman14 stayed the course with the top 4 for a long while before tapering off towards the end of the season.
- The 3 Aussies in our comp somehow managed to bring the rear the whole season season, fighting for all the spoons between themselves (taking home 16 of the 19 spoons in the season). ozzz2002 was the best of the Aussies in our comp though he took home the final spoon. wwe84 finishes the season with his first HoF, and kudos to him for also staving off the cellar. gtho4 managed to traverse all the way from first place to the cellar this season!
- Thank you all for staying the course and lasting the whole season! Tips and suggestions to improve the comp and to attract more participation most welcome (gtho4 suggested having the supersub be the trump player if the chosen trump does not play. This season we did not have this rule)....till we start afresh in November 2017 then...
