A new month, a new November, and not many shopping days until... eek!

I have just been shopping in Golders Green. If anyone remembers OnimisiB who sometimes posts here this is where I took him when he came to visit me on his way home to Nigeria.

A couple of weekends ago, Maynooth and I went exploring caves down in the south-west of Western Australia. This is Jewell Cave near Augusta. I thought this was the most beautiful of the caves we visited.

This is the Small Copper butterfly, Lycaena phlaeas. I was surprised to see this little beauty active and feeding on an afternoon in early November. Sadly, many of the insects still alive at this time of the year lack the vibrancy of colour of the newly emerged imago as they approach hibernation or the ends of their lives...

Saying that, he is still a mightily handsome little fellow!

The river Brent, Hendon on the left, Cricklewood on the right. Brent Cross shopping centre, Britain's first mall built in 1976 is just past the railway bridge. Before then there was a greyhound track past the bridge and behind a row of recently built (and since demolished) office blocks a sewage works.

Did I hear you ask for more birds? No? Well, I am here to annoy you with another bird - the male paradise shelduck.

I cannot recall whether or not I have posted this image previously. I was on an outing when I came across a large pile of very old chains that had been abandoned for some time. I was attracted by the colour of the rust in the sunlight but, on closer inspection, I was also struck by the textures on the links... I hope that you agree.

I'm sure those chains would be entered for the Turner Prize if claimed by a famous artist.

This looks a little like human skin but it's actually a close-up of the underside of a Beech leaf...

This is the U.S. Coast Guard station and lighthouse in Chatham, Massachusetts, on the southeast corner of Cape Cod. This lighthouse was built in 1877. It is made of cast iron panels and is the third in that location since 1806.

Metamorphosis

I always like petrol stations as photos as the coloured lights make a nice view, especially when it's getting dark. This is in Woking.

A bit of practice for the super moon next week....weather permitting.

This was the photograph that I recently entered into a photography competition, my first ever; sadly it never made it to the final ten which are currently facing the public vote on the Skye Photo Challenge website... Maybe I'll fare better next year?
