My local Sainsbury's filling station. It's dark now by 4.30pm thanks to what they sarcastically call 'daylight saving', which actually means it gets dark an hour sooner.

A pencil sharpener?

I've been wanting to try this technique for a while now... This is the River Dart at Badger's Holt on Dartmoor here in Devon. The secret (apparently) is to smooth out the movement of the water and keep everything else sharply in focus without over-exposing the shot.

This isn't perfect, but it is getting there.

In contrast with Satguru's series of pictures, this is how a late autumn dawn looks down here 'in the sticks'... This is a view east from Poundsgate near the town of Ashburton, one of the gateways to the moors.

Last month it was a surprise to have a garden still in bloom. The flowers have since gone but the ivy is now producing berries and is now attracting these little fellows.

This is an example of a fungus known as Honey Fungus; it's binomial name is Armillaria mellea. There are a number of cherry trees around the area in which I live and a good number of them are affected by it. This fungus grows into some of the largest living organisms in the world with one colony in Oregon, USA covering an area of over three square miles... This example presently covers around five square metres, so it has some considerable growing to get to that stage!
