Thunder River Rapids, one of DreamWorld's oldest and most popular rides, will be permanently closed after four people were killed in a tragic accident last month.

Have they said what definitely caused the accident? It sounds like the conveyer belt kept moving their raft while another ahead was stuck...

Incredibly, this ride had recently passed its annual safety check. It's likely the accident was a combination of human error and malfunctioning machinery, an empty raft got stuck on the conveyer belt and the raft carrying passengers collided with it and flipped over. Two passengers drowned whilst it's believed the other two were crushed between the raft and the conveyer belt. Miraculously, two children survived without any major injuries. A similar ride, the Rocky Hollow Log ride, was closed down earlier this year after a near-drowning.

A permanent memorial will be built, but it's unclear when DreamWorld will re-open.
