Why is it that Scrambles category in Wordplay in Brain Teaser is closed to new submissions? I was going to create the quiz about words made from CONSTELLATION. I look at all the quizzes in there and none were submitted after 2012.

The subcategory was closed because we had enough quizzes of that type. Some of the submissions asked people to make a word from gibberish, e.g. BLSCRMAE and others, such as the one you hoped to write became limited in their scope.

It is unlikely that the subcategory will be reopened.

I know this is a common category on Jeopardy!, I watch Jeopardy every day, and seeing that category recently inspired me to write the scrambles quiz, and I chose CONSTELLATION because I'm interested in that topic and I have constellation maps I drew.

Instead of a scramble, you could write a Sci/Tech quiz about constellations. That would be a good way to use your knowledge of the subject smile

We don't base our decisions about which subcategories are closed on whether or not they appear on "Jeopardy!" though.

To elaborate on Liz's explanation, in addition to authors submitting what amounted to gibberish, a lack of required Interesting Information in the Brain Teasers category meant that people were sending nonsense into the queues-- enough so that we were getting more unusable submission with next to no standards than we were the minimal amount of viable Scrambles quizzes. And due to the general low appeal for players (5 out of 125 quizzes in the Scrambles subcategory are modestly-rated with sunglasses), it's clear that diverting to other Word Play subcategories to create more original, dynamic quizzes is a better option. Why not check into the Anagrams subcategory?

Regarding Jeopardy! categories, their approach to trivia is a bit different to ours and you'll find that our Potent Potables subcategory is similarly difficult to write for.

Of course, BT now requires interesting information for all types of quizzes, and has done for a few years now.

I didn't suggest the Anagrams subcategory, as a quiz based on one word, such as was proposed, would not fit there.
