| | | The scoring system will be the same as last year: - one point a correct pick in Weeks 1 and 2,
1 point for picking the winner of the AFC Championship Game, 1 point for picking the winner of the NFC Championship Game, 4 points for picking the winner of the Super Bowl.
- total points each week, excluding bonus points:
Week 1 : 4 points Week 2 : 4 points Week 3 : 4 points Week 4 : 3 points
- bonus points for the seeding of the winner of a game.
- bonus points for picking the Super Bowl winner in advance, before the fact:
4 bonus points for picking it in week 1, 3 bonus points for picking it in week 2, 2 bonus points for picking it in week 3.
- tie-breaker :: if players are on equal points after the Super Bowl:
(a) first team to score, then (b) leader at half-time, then (c) total points in Super Bowl then, if required, (d) aggregate total points of the two Championship Games combined.
These are the 11 end of season games:
Week 1 : Wildcard Weekend (Saturday/Sunday January 7th/8th, 2017)

You've mis-noted the seeds for the divisional rounds...I've just now noticed that. Green Bay is the 3 seed, Seattle is the 4, and Denver is watching this year's playoffs.

This week went all chalk, and so we have 8 tippers tied for first. Among them, half took New England to beat Dallas in the Super Bowl. The outliers include dg_dave, who has Green Bay in Dallas’ spot, srini701, who has Atlanta and Dallas’ spot, Howie72, who has Dallas beating New England, and yoyoandcigs, who went way out on a limb with Green Bay over Kansas City. Because of the results, nobody is really out of the running either, as last place is only 10 points behind.
Only 2 advance picks are dead – George95 and themonarch both had the New York Giants as their NFC champion, but they fell in Green Bay on Sunday. George95 also had New York as his Super Bowl champion, so he will be the only one of us that needs another Super Bowl pick come next round.
As for the games, they zzzzzZZZZZzzzzz… oh, sorry. At least we can say they ended. Saturday gave us the most competitive game with Oakland and Houston. Oakland was down to their third-string QB Connor Cook in his first NFL start after losing starter Derek Carr 2 weeks ago and second-stringer Matt McGloin last week. The Raiders kept it close for most of the first half, but it became 20-7 inside the 2-minute warning and they matched each other in the 2nd half, giving Houston a 27-14 victory.
Detroit then went to Seattle, with their quarterback still nursing an injury to his throwing hand. The Lions managed 2 field goals on the day, and while Seattle’s offense didn’t have its best day, they were never threatened thanks to how ineffective Detroit’s was. Seattle waltzed into the divisional round 26-6.
The Dolphins’ starting QB sprained his ACL and MCL in early December, meaning he was unavailable for the wild card round. Backup Matt Moore was sacked 5 times and only put together one touchdown drive, after Miami was already down 30-6. Ben Roethlisberger completed his first 6 passes for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. Although he only threw for 35 yards the rest of the game, they didn’t need him as Le’Veon Bell ran for 167 yards and iced the game away 30-12.
Green Bay and New York had the closest game for the longest time. New York’s defense looked like it was on a roll to start the game, allowing only 43 yards well into the 2nd quarter as they led 6-0 (and could’ve been much more if not for dropped touchdown passes). After being stopped on a drive in their own territory and giving Green Bay short field position, Aaron Rodgers put Green Bay up 7-6 inside 3 minutes. Another 3-and-out for the Giants gave the Packers the ball at their own 20 with 1:38 left, and they went the entire way to go up 14-6 at half. New York earned a touchdown in the 3rd quarter to make it 14-13, and then stopped scoring as Green Bay got 3 more touchdowns and a field goal to win 38-13 going away.
With a disappointing start to the playoffs, we look forward to the divisional round and hope for better games, and perhaps an upset or two?

From the traffic jam that was the top spot last week, dg_dave and srini701 remain as the only perfect tippers. That will change next week one way or the other, as dg_dave chose Green Bay as his NFC champion and srini701 chose Atlanta as his NFC champion. That may be the deciding factor, as both picked New England as their Super Bowl champion.
yoyoandcigs sits 4 points back, but can make up that gap if Green Bay wins the Super Bowl, and has an opportunity to take Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship as everyone else chose New England as their advance pick. Dizart has every advanced pick alive, but they match dg_dave, and with 5 points to make up may have to pick against those advanced picks for a shot at first. N-Bomb is tied with Dizart, but lost Dallas as an NFC champion advanced pick, much like ElfTwinkle another 3 points back who lost Seattle. toocool4u, illiniman14, ozfei, and LeoDaVinci still have every advanced pick left, but may sit too far back to be a factor for first place.
Saturday was just a continuation of the uninteresting football left over from the wild card round. Atlanta took a 19-10 lead shortly before halftime over Seattle, and an opening drive touchdown in the second half made it 26-10 and nearly out of reach. Seattle could only put up a field goal before Atlanta got another 10 points, and a 36-13 lead was only cut by a late touchdown, sending the Falcons to the NFC Championship Game.
New England entered the round as a 15.5-point favorite, and in the first half it seemed like that might have been a gross overstatement. The Patriots took a 14-3 lead, but Houston cut it to 14-13 in the second quarter. A field goal made it 17-13 before halftime. New England made the only score in the 3rd quarter to go up 24-13, and Houston only managed a field goal in the 4th quarter while New England hit another touchdown and a late field goal to beat the spread 34-16.
Early Sunday looked like it might be much of the same. Green Bay went up 21-3 midway through the 2nd quarter, but a quick strike touchdown by Dallas made it 21-10 and a field goal cut it to 21-13 before half. Green Bay scored again in the 3rd quarter to go up 28-13, and Dallas scored a touchdown within the first few minutes of the 4th quarter to close the gap to 28-20. With just over 4 minutes left, Dallas scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion to tie it at 28-28. Green Bay used the time remaining to position themselves for a 56-yard field goal to go up 31-28 with 1:33 left. Dallas drove down the field quickly but couldn’t convert on a 3rd down, but hit a 52-yard field goal to tie it back up at 31 with 35 seconds left. Facing a 3rd and 20 with 12 seconds left, Aaron Rodgers heaved a 36-yard pass to the sideline that was acrobatically caught, leaving a 51-yard field goal to win. Green Bay hit the field goal… but Dallas called a timeout just before – but the second try curved just inside the upright, sending the Packers to the NFC Championship.
Kansas City-Pittsburgh was a little more subdued, as each half gave us only one touchdown. Still, Pittsburgh led 12-7 at half, and added another field goal in the 3rd quarter to go up 15-7. Kansas City matched that field goal, and Pittsburgh added another in the 4th. With time ticking down, the Chiefs scored a touchdown with 2:43 left and made the 2-point conversion, except that it was called back by a holding penalty. They failed to convert the 12-yard attempt and gave Pittsburgh the ball back down 18-16. With only one timeout, Pittsburgh converted a 3rd down to run out the clock to be the second upset of the day.
The championship games are set, and thankfully not all chalk. Only 3 (real) games remain in the NFL season!

My reasoning for picking against Dallas (unlike Dizart who just hates the **** out of them and wishes they go 0-16, much like I'd like to see the Patriots do) is because of one thing...#12. Dak will become a #12-like player in a couple of years, Dizart...and you'll have to pick them to win...at some point!

Say that in two years...Dak showed he can hang with Aaron Rodgers on a bigger stage. Go Steelers next week!

Last week, 2 tippers had perfect playoff records, and now we are down to only one. srini701 has now hit all 10 games and has hit both advance picks, with New England left as a Super Bowl winner. dg_dave picked Green Bay as his advance pick, and they dropped an egg this week, leaving him back in second place. Two tippers had big rises, as toocool4u and illiniman14 both rode perfect rounds to the top 4. Behind them lies a 5-way tie for fifth place where anyone could emerge.
Only two tippers missed out on New England’s victory in the AFC Championship. yoyoandcigs had a couple avenues to victory, and they both failed with Atlanta and New England’s victories, but he took the chance to blaze towards gold and we salute him for his attempt. Additionally, ozfei failed to submit picks this round and therefore tied yoyoandcigs, although ozfei did get the two advance points.
Nineteen of the twenty tippers hit on New England as the AFC champion, while only 5 of us got Atlanta as the NFC champion. Fourteen of us picked New England as our original Super Bowl champion, while LeoDaVinci has Atlanta alive for all four points, George95 has Atlanta available for 3 points, wwe84 has New England for 2 points, and three had Green Bay as their pick.
The Conference Championship weekend is sometimes better than the Super Bowl itself, as two conference rivals face off as teams familiar with each other and this weekzzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzz. *sigh* Not again. Atlanta got out to a slight 24-0 lead at halftime, which extended to 31-0 on their first possession in the second half. After that point, Green Bay won! And yet, Atlanta left the victors 44-21.
Pittsburgh at least made somewhat of a game of it. Midway through the 2nd quarter, New England was only up 10-6 before scoring a touchdown, and a Pittsburgh field goal made it 17-9 at halftime. Nineteen unanswered points put the Patriots up 36-9, and a late touchdown did nothing as New England goes to another Super Bowl by the score of 36-17.
