I had a Who's the Expert challenge yesterday and we actually wound up with a tie:

Attempts so far (max 4 per player):

seekernym: Colors: 1451

bubbatom1: Colors: 1451

Current leader: seekernym (1451)

I checked the standings in the Colors quiz and my opponent had played first and ranked *above* me in the results - so they should have gotten the win for this challenge, not me. Help?

This game may well score people to one or more decimal places, which are not displayed, but which can differentiate players on the same score when they have been rounded off to be presented as integers.

I think this is the first time I have seen someone noticing this kind of anomaly who thinks they should have lost - it's usually the one who feels robbed!

Thanks for the reply - turns out we were BOTH credited with the win, and I'm definitely ok with that smile.

Wow! Room for collusion there? Or would the attitude be that if two players did manage to deliberately score equally on Expert for the purposes of the challenge then hats off for managing it!?

Whereas if you have a tie in the Nemesis Challenge, the system picks one winner at random.

On FT, the "friendly ties" solution seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

Theoretically, I guess you could collude with your opponent; but in reality wouldn't you just go for the win? For it to work, the slower player would have to play first, right? Could you realllllly sit there with your cursor hovering over "submit" for those few seconds it would take for a match? laugh

That's just odd to me. In my case in the Who's the Expert daily challenge, even though we 'tied' - to me there was a clear winner because he ranked above me in the standings for that quiz.

In a Nemesis tie, I'd assume both would get credit. Hard to wrap my head around a Nemesis tie - did that actually happen to you?

Yes. In fact I have tied with my "Nemesis" on a couple of occasions. But there is only one winner when it happens. The Daily Challenge FAQ says the system randomly chooses.

Good morning,

Today's expert game “Rock Lyrics” contained the question:

"Now, without looking back, (okay; if you must!), what word appears throughout the quiz in every answer or question?"

Could it be possible to flag this question so it does not appear again in any other challenge?

The quiz in question is quizdetails.cfm?quiz=371394

Many thanks

George

When you encounter a question like that, it is best to send a correction on it. An editor will then see the issue flagged, and be able to use the mechanism that removes a question from timed games. If you just notify here, an editor in that category has to go find the quiz and send in a correction on the question before they can do anything. (Of course, it may be that an administrator can remove it in a less convoluted fashion, but the bottom line of always sending a correction on any question that you think has issues of any kind is still the most efficient way to have it dealt with.)

Edited to add that I have found the quiz, played it, and sent in a correction note for the Music editors to handle.

Many thanks.
I had had played the quiz before and thought nothing of it.
The problem arose when that particular question appeared as a stand alone one.

But even in the standalone version you always have the option of sending in a correction notice on a single question. That is the best way to flag a question that looks fine in the context of the quiz it belongs to, but which doesn't work when on its own.
