dg_dave Champion Poster Registered: Sun Oct 05 2003 Posts: 24575 Loc: near Stafford, Virginia USA	MLB 2017 Tipping Comp With spring training just starting, the MLB 2017 season will begin soon. The rules are as follows: 1. One point for a correct tip. You may tip home or away (there are NO ties in baseball - games go into extra innings to determine a winner, even if they play 18 or more total innings) 2. Deadlines are Friday midnight FT (6am* London, 10:30am India, 3pm* Sydney, 5pm* NZ) with a two hour period of grace, with the exceptions of Sunday games, in which the deadline is midnight Saturday (only in the first and final weeks). Stars are noted by places that DO observe daylight saving time. 3. There will be a one point deduction if tips are posted after the grace period. Default will be the higher of six points or Wooden Spoon score, and will be your score if you tip after the first game starts, which will be about 12 hours after deadline. Ex: Wooden Spoon score is seven, default is seven. Wooden Spoon score is five, default is six. Note: We will tip the Saturday games each week, excluding the final day of the season (Sun), and the Sunday/Monday games to equal 15 for the first week of the season. Bonus points: 1. One bonus point for picking a result solo, or one of two (12 minimum tippers to apply). 2. One bonus point if no more than three games are missed (one or two games may be postponed (games may be postponed due to weather (rain or snow) in baseball) to earn this point). Three postponements or more do not earn a bonus. (i.e., 10+/13, 11+/14, 12+/15) The previous year's comp will determine next year's eligibility. 3. Tips of all homes or all homes bar one are ineligible for any bonus points. In case of Friday postponements, the FIRST of the Saturday games will be the one counted for our comp, as per MLB rule 4.13f. Note: In Week 11, the Athletics and Rays play a scheduled doubleheader. We will tip the FIRST game of that doubleheader which will start at 2:05pm ET, so as to keep the schedule at 15 games. Sign up here if you are interested. Welcome to the 2016 MLB tipping season! We will have plenty of baseball action over the spring and summer. Trash talking is permitted, provided it stays within FT guidelines; trash talking the Yankees, Angels, and Athletics is all but required...for yet another year!!

You can see who I am a fan of and whom I loathe...if not, you will by season's end.

The Yankees got beat at the Stadium to start their season, which starts out on a good note for this anti-Yanks fan...can they lose the other 161 now? Please?

No shows this year consist of terraorca, Shadowmyst2004, and srini701 (?)...not sure why the last of the group is there...and a big welcome to toocool4u, giving us 17 runners out of the gate.

Typical early season maneuvering sees only three players keep their places from last week...wwe84 in joint 1st (this week with Howie72), Dizart in joint 12th (this week with ElfTwinkle), and PaulE in joint 6th (this week with N-Bomb).

So far, so good for those Yanks...another L on the board. Not so great is an L to the Rangers.

No marathon games...yet, but the Rays and Jays went a couple of extras before the Rays walked it off. Third time was the charm for them (9th, 10th, 11th).

We had some bad scores, as two players scored a Spoon with three, another player only had four, and yet another only mustered five. Maybe that's why we went about the equivalent of 5/12.

Let's see what has happened since April...the Astros keep winning, the yucky NY team keeps winning, and the Rangers sweep the top team of the National League (going into the weekend that is). As for the game on Saturday, the Nationals had a 3-1 lead after eight innings, so they put their closer in to save the game, however, a blown save is what he left with. He gave up two runs in the top of the ninth, and was almost three, except for the arm of one Bryce Harper, who threw a bullet from right field to the plate, nailing the Ranger player at the plate. In the bottom half of the ninth, Washington has a runner on 3rd with only one out. The Rangers send in Alex Claudio (the best pitcher by pitches thrown per inning) to get them to the 10th inning. Claudio strikes out the next batter, and the following batter gets the guy on 3rd into a rundown...out! After an uneventful 10th, Robinson Chirinos says "we're not going 12" and blasts a 3-run shot to put the Rangers up 6-3. Chirinos's forecast holds true as Keone Kela strikes out the side in the bottom half of the 11th inning...1...2...3 (in his second inning of work, taking the win).

In other games, Colorado decided they were better than the champs, and showed it with a 9-1 shellacking. Boston trounced Detroit, with Sale on the mound for Boston, 11-3. The Mets took both from the Braves, 6-1 in the first game (the one that counted for our comp - due to a rainout earlier in the season), and 8-1 in the second. The scheduled doubleheader saw a split, as the Rays took the opener 6-5 in 10, with Oakland belting out 16 hits in the loss, but revenge was served in the late game, with the A's winning 7-2. Toronto took the win over Seattle, doubling them up, 4-2, and Kansas City did likewise in San Diego, 12-6. Only one game ended in a shutout, with the Cardinals closing out the Phillies 7-0 (are they playing football or baseball? LOL). Last but not least (in terms of runs), the icky team beat the birds 16-3...Orioles are better than pinstripes any day!

Since there were no games that were tipped by one or two, no bonus points went out this week, but gold stars go to the three who picked the Rangers to win...Sypher, ozzz2002, and dg_dave (the latter will ALWAYS pick the Rangers).

N-Bomb took the top spot from Howie72 last week on Howie's (oops) default, and extends his lead to the largest all season at four.

N-Bomb needed that four point lead this week, as his lead is again shaved to one, partially thanks to the tipping of PaulE and Howie72, the latter getting back within that one, however, PaulE is just a further point back.

Good things happened on this Saturday in baseball...although as it is now Monday here in the Eastern Time Zone, a little foreshadowing is nice...with the Yankees getting SWEPT at the hands of the worst team in the American League. Only three teams scored double digits (Rangers, Dodgers, and Orioles), and five scored that way in our comp. Two other teams scored nine, and a nine-spot went up in the comp as well (our leader, N-Bomb).

Both LeoDaVinci (who returns and augments to the lowest score - as indicated by the "L") and wwe84 need a new pick system.
