The Western Bulldogs proved their bark was worse than their bite as Sydney beat them easily, the Bulldog's 42 points being their lowest since round 4 in 2013. It was just as comfortable for Adelaide as they crushed St Kilda by 57 points to give the visitors their 10th loss in a row in South Australia. Gold Coast held off a fast finishing Hawthorn by 16 points after leading by 43 points near the end of the third quarter, Gold Coast were able to stop the Hawk's momentum after they kicked 6 goals in a row to close the gap to 9. Brisbane Lions roared as they embarrassed Fremantle for just their second win of the season. It was just as bad for Port Adealaide as Essendon showed they would not be out of place in the top 8 play-offs with a 70 point emolition of the Power. Carlton were in 17th place heading into this round while Greater Western Sydney were leading the standings so of course, it was the Blues that caused a major upset by hanging to a victory by 1 point. Melbourne Demons battled back from a 28 point deficit to edge Collingwood in a thriller and leap into the top 8.ASA and illiniman14 was running on default fuel this week.A less than average tipping round this week as we went 35/84 for a strike rate of 41.66%. We all tipped Adelaide to beat St Kilda but no one thought Carlton had a chance against Greater Western Sydney.Despite the poor showing we had 2 weekly winners as both ozzz2002 and chogobad went 4/7. Another 3 spoons were handed out as Dizart, chogobad and ElfTwinkle all went 2/7. This leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win and N-Bomb without a spoon.Little change at the top as gtho4 and George95 continue to enjoy a 1 point lead though it is now only over wwe84 as srini701 drops off the podium. Sypher reduces the gap at the bottom to 1 point.

Geelong kicked the first goal away to West Coast but it was the Eagles that soared higher to take the win by 13 points and end a 3 game losing streak. St Kilda also ended a 3 game losing streak when they travelled to take on North Melbourne, they were still wastelful but thankful to come up against a lethargic 'Roos side that never came to life until it was too late. Sydney lead early by 1-0 but then it was all Richmond as they opened up a 36 point gap until the Swans kicked 8 of the last 9 goals to snatch the win. The final 40 point winning margin may not suggest it but Port Adelaide were made to work hard against Brisbane, only opening up a comfortable gap in the third quarter. Carlton lead by 29 points early in the third quarter at Gold Coast but the home team stormed back to take the lead in the final quarter. The Blues got their momentum back to retake the lead and hang on in another thriller. Western Bulldogs fell to their second big loss in as many weeks as the Melbourne Demons travelled to the defending champions and thrashed them by 57 points.ASA and illiniman14 was running on default fuel this week.It was slightly better this week than last week as we went 36/78 for a strike rate of 46.15%. We all tipped Port Adelaide to beat Brisbane with the trickiest match being Melbourne's win at the Western Bulldogs where only ozzz2002, Sypher and George95 got it correct.Two of us had an impressive tipping round when going 5/6, the two with their names in lights are ozzz2002 and Sypher. On the other hand Dizart was dismal in earning his 4th spoon in 5 rounds with just 1/6. This still leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win and N-Bomb without a spoon.Changes at the top as wwe84 and chogobad join gtho4 and George95 at the top, this being wwe84 and chogobad's first time at the top this season. I am not sure how all 4 can fit on the top step of the podium so wonder who will fall off first. At the bottom, Sypher and his weekly win leap over 3 people, leaving Dizart and the absent illiniman14 at the bottom.

Hawthorn were sitting second last when they travelled to take on the league leading Adelaide Crows and were trailing by 18 pointa at half-time, however a dominant second half saw them create a major upset and silence the home crowd. It was the miracle of Sydney as the Sydney Swans scored 20 points in the last 8 minutes to steal the win from Essendon, the winning goal coming after the final siren. Port Adelaide outclassed Collingwood when comfortably winning away at the Magpies. It was even easier in Brisbane as Greater Western Sydney destroyed the home team by 60 points and overtook Adelaide at the top of the standings. It was tough but the Western Bulldogs breathed life back into their defense of the title as they kicked the winning behind against North Melbourne with a bit over a minute left after the 'Roos had come back late to tie it. West Coast's Perth fortress was breached again as Melbourne's Tom McDonald kicked a last minute miracle goal as he was being tackled to win for the first time in Perth for 15 years. In another thriller it was an injury hit Geelong (who were down to one substitue in the final corner) who edged Fremantle after the Docker's last gasp goal attempt went wide. It was more comfortable for Richmond as they beat Carlton by 26 points. St Kilda moved into the top 8 after after doing enough to beat an injury-ravaged Gold Coast.ASA and illiniman14 were running on default fuel this week. It was a good round this week as we went 72/108 for a strike rate of 66.66%. We all tipped Sydney to beat Essendon with the trickiest matches being Hawthorn's win at Adelaide and Melbourne's win at West Coast where only Sypher and ElfTwinkle respectively were successful with their crystal ball.With Melbourne's miracle win, ElfTwinkle takes home the weekly win with an impressive 8/9. On the other hand Sypher's attempts to climb the standings with upset wins largely failed and he earns a spoon with 3/9. This still leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win and N-Bomb without a spoon.It turned out that gtho4 and George95 were not happy about being joined on the top of the podium so they pushed wwe84 and chogobad off, wwe84 landed off the podium while chogobad landed on the third step to join Howie72, N-Bomb and srini701. The trop 6 are separated by just 1 point and the top 9 by 3 points so there will still be many twists and turns. At the bottom, Dizart returns the favour and leaps over Sypher, ASA and illiniman14. The absent illiniman14 finally finds his way to the bottom of the standings.

I can't believe I missed joining the AFL comp this year  Pleased that the Dees won Sunday and got back into the Top 8 Hope we can do well in the final games and make the finals.

Earlier in the season Sydney became the first grand finalist t0 lose their first 6 games in the following season, after turning their season around they have made it into the top 8 after defeating Melbourne in Melbourne so the rest of the competition needs to be wary. West Coast have shown they can win away but they almost blew it as Western Bulldogs came back in the final quarter to get within 1 point after being behind by 28 at three quarter time. Carlton hosted Adelaide and gave the Crows a huge scare but the away team held on to cement a top 2 spot. Gold Coast celebrated Gary Ablett's 300th game by deservedly beating North Melbourne at home. It finally happened, the first draw of the season after Greater Western Sydney came back from 20 points behind in the final quarter to take the lead by 1, Geelong had the chance to win but their final shot after the final siren was only good enough for a behind to tie the game. Port Adelaide hosted Richmond in what proved to be a frantic and messy error-ridden game but nonetheless an exciting one as the Tigers survived all sorts of pressure to emerge victorious. Essendon lead at every break and looked to have it sown up when leading by 27 points early in the final quarter but Brisbane had other ideas and kicked 6 of the last 7 goals to surge past the Bombers and head back to Brisbane with the win. Hawthorn's play-off hopes are still alive after pulling away late in a topsy-turvy game against Collingwood, leaving the Magpie's play-off hopes in shreds. St Kilda travelled west to take on Fremantle and trailed at every break but their perseverance prevailed in the final quarter for a rare interstate win.ASA and illiniman14 were running on default fuel this week. These latter two are just 1 point behind gtho4, ozzz2002 jumping from 9th to a tie for 2nd in one round, his previous highest position was 7th. The top 9 remain separated by just 3 points so there will still be many twists and turns. At the bottom, Dizart and Sypher continue to play lead frog out of the regular tippers as it is Sypher's turn to jump back over Dizart.

An even first half saw Adelaide take a 3 point lead into the break but a run of 10 unanswered goals in the second half saw the Crows destroy the Western Bulldogs by 59 points. It was a sense of deja vu for Greater Western Sydney as they drew for the second time in 2 rounds, this time away to Hawthorn after the Hawks kicked a late goal to level it up. The last time any VFL/AFL side had 2 draws in a row was in 1921. There was no "how-did-we-lose-this-game?" thoughts for Essendon against Collingwood unlike the last 2 weeks against Sydney and Brisbane as they comfortably held on to their lead this week. Despite a slow start it was business as usual for the resurgent Sydney Swans as they thrashed a disappointing Gold Coast. It was just as easy for Geelong as they travelled to Brisbane and obliterated the home side by 85 points. St Kilda's first half ambush of a toothless Richmond Tigers was superb to say the least, capped off by a 59-1 second quarter to take an 82 point lead into the major break, easing off in the final 2 quarters but still winning by 67 points. Ryan Nyhuis played his debut game for Fremantle and it could not have gone much better for him as he kicked 2 late goals to win it for the Dockers away at North Melbourne though the Kangaroos had even later chances to wn but were not accurate in their goal kicking. An understrength Melbourne Demons stormed home late at Carlton to earn a hard fought 8 point victory, the Blues were not helped by injuries to 2 key players in the 2nd quarter. Port Adelaide finally put a good performance together against a top 8 side as they became the latest team to storm West Coast's fortress and emerge victorious, the Eagle's home ground beginning to look more like a country shed.ASA and illiniman14 were running on default fuel this week. It was an average round this week as we went 60/108 for a strike rate of 55.55%. If it was not for 3 perfect games it could have been an abysmal week. We had no draws in the first 14 rounds but one in each of the last 2 rounds and not surprisingly no one predicted the Hawthorn vs Greater Western Sydney game would finish level.We had a solo weekly winner as ozzz2002 went 7/9 for his 4th weekly win in 5 weeks. On the other hand chogobad takes home the solo spoon with 3/9. This still leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win and N-Bomb without a spoon.As David Bowie so aptly sung, there are "Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes" at the top as ozzz2002 sweeps past gtho4 and into a solo lead by 1 point, timing his run perfectly if there were not still 7 rounds left..... The top 9 are now separated by 4 points so there will still be many twists and turns. At the bottom, Dizart and Sypher cancel each other out so Dizart remains 1 point behind Sypher though they both close the gap to ElfTwinkle a little.

After thrashing Richmond last week, St Kilda found themselves at the other end of a thrashing as Essendon lead from almost start to finish to humiliate the Saints by 61 points in front of their home fans. Geelong looked to have beaten Hawthorn when leading by 17 with 6 minutes left but in the end they had to hang on as the Hawks missed the attempt at goal with the last kick of the game which would have given them the win. Port Adelaide solidified a top 4 position as they were never threatened when thumping North Melbourne at home. In a battle of two coaches in danger of being fired it was Nathan Buckley and Collingwood that outpointed Rodney Eade and Gold Coast. As ozzz2002 proclaimed it was a "huge game" in Sydney as Greater Western Sydney hosted the Sydney Swans, the Swans came out on top in a thriller to close in on the top 4, a remarkable situation considering how their season started. Melbourne took their home game against Adelaide to the heat of Darwin but it did them no good as the Crows lead at every break to claim back the league lead. Richmond were never behind as they comfortably disposed of the visiting Brisbane Lions. The play-off hopes of the defending champion Western Bulldogs are still alive as they overcame a slow start to beat Carlton. The latest Western Derby will quickly be forgotten as it never rose to any great height as a spectacle but West Coast overcame a woefully inaccurate Fremantle to at least get their names in the record book as victors.ASA and illiniman14 were running on default fuel this week. It was a good round this week as we went 79/108 for a strike rate of 73.14%. It was even better for perfect games this week as we all tipped 4 of them correctly. However, the round started poorly as no one thought the in-form St Kilda would lose at home to Essendon.We had two weekly winners as srini701 and George95 both went 8/9. Back-to-back spoons for chogobad as she takes the latest one home with 5/9. This still leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win and N-Bomb without a spoon.It turns out that ozzz2002 did realise that the tipping competition did carry on past round 16 and he stays 1 point out in front with srini701 and George95 joining gtho4 in 2nd. These four have opened a small dap at the top with 3 points back to 5th place. At the bottom, Dizart draws level with Sypher and they are just 2 points behind ElfTwinkle.

Geelong was not a side Adelaide wanted to face as they had lost each of their last 5 games aganst the Cats, however they need not have worried as they lead from start to finish to remain in top spot. In a game of 13 lead changes it took a dominant final quarter before Essendon overcame a stubborn North Melbourne in a high scoring encounter. Melbourne shot out of the blocks against Port Adelaide and never looked back as they comfortably accounted for the Power, leading all the way. Western Bulldogs attempts to retain their title are still alive as they easily beat a lacklustre Gold Coast at home. It was just as easy for Sydney when they hosted a sliding St Kilda, 42 points being the final margin. Hawthorn continued their dominance over Fremantle with a 19th win in the last 11 games between these sides, in doing so were the only away team to win this round. Richmond looked like they were still in the locker in the first quarter at home to Greater Western Sydney but then remembered they were supposed to be playing Aussie rules football and in the end the surged past the Giants and into the top 4 among the torrential Melbourne rain at times. West Coast's away woes contimued as this time they turned an 18 point three quarter lead into an 8 point loss at an undermanned Collingwood. In the battle of the cellar dwellers, Brisbane took a huge 56 point lead early in the third quarter before seeming to change jerseys as Carlton stormed back to within 11 points early in the final quarter. However the home team regrouped and pulled away again for the win.ASA was running on default fuel this week. It was anorther good round this week as we went 77/117 for a strike rate of 65.81%. We had another 3 perfect games as we all tipped Essendon, Western Bulldogs and Sydney to win. The trickiest match to tip was Collingwood's win at home to West Coast where only Sypher was successful.With Collingwood's win, Sypher earned himself a solo weekly win as he went 8/9. Six spoons were handed out with illiniman14, paper_aero, ozzz2002, George95, N-Bomb and ElfTwinkle all going 5/9. This still leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win but N-Bomb has now completed the wooden spoon column with his first of the season.We are going to have a fight for the overall victory as ozzz2002's spoon sees him joined by gtho4 and srini701 at the top - two Australians and one.....Indian expert. These three have a 2 point gap over George95 and Howie72. At the bottom, of the regular tipper Dizart falls 1 point behind Sypher but drawn level with ElfTwinkle.

Hawthorn kept their finals hopes alive and dented Sydney's top 4 hopes with a tight victory, the Hawks hung tough after the Swans took the lead early in the final quarter but a video review upheld a Hawthorn goal awarded onfield and that sparked them back into life to win by 6. North Melbourne conquered the wind in Hobart to upset Melbourne and keep an 11 year winning streak over the Demons alive, Melbourne had chances to win it late but inaccurate goal kicking cost them. Greater Western Sydney looked like anything but the pre-season favourite but did enough in the final quarter to come from behind and beat a plucky Fremantle side. It was a performance worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster as Port Adelaide put together their own great escape by kicking the winning goal against St Kilda with less than 10 seconds to go. Richmond moved back into the top 4 after being rarely troubled in disposing of an understrength Gold Coast side on the Gold Coast. Geelong did it easy away to Carlton when registering a 65 point victory. It was the Day of the Dogs as the Western Bulldogs won for the third time in succession when beating Essendon by 30 points. Collingwood will be wndering what happened after letting a 50 point 3rd quarter lead over Adelaide disappear when the Crows kicked a goal after the final siren to level it up at 103-103 for the third draw of the season. West Coast got their season back on track when they hammered bottom place Brisbane at home.ASA was running on default fuel this week. It was another reasonable round this week as we went 72/117 for a strike rate of 61.53% though there was just 1 perfect game, we all tipped Geelong to win away at Carlton. Not surprisingly, no one managed to predict a draw between Collingwood and Adelaide.There were 2 weekly winners with chogobad (despite him thinking he had 8 correct) and ElfTwinkle both going 7/9. After last weeks glut of spoons we only had 1 this week as ozzz2002 went back-to-back with 4/9. Sydney jumped out to a big first quarter lead against Geelong and never looked back, turning the 32 point lead into a 46 point victory to return to winning ways. Greater Western Sydney followed Sydney's example with a first quarter onslaught against Melbourne, it was enough to not be seriously threatened for the rest of the match. Essendon also jumped out to a big lead early against Carlton but the Blues mounted a comeback, it took a late surge at the end of the final quarter for the Bombers to sneak home. Following the same pattern, Western Bulldogs turned a dominant first quarter where they lead Brisbane by 28 points into a deficit midway through the final quarter but orchestrated a great escape to leave Brisbane with the win. There was nothing but pride on the line when North Melbourne hosted Collingwood and it was the Magpies that thumped the 'Roos in a low-standard game where the body count got more attention as a number of players left the game injured. Another game where both teams will not make the play-offs occurred in Perth where Fremantle did enough to overcome an injury-ravaged Gold Coast. A last minute goal from St Kilda sealed their win over West Coast and kept their play-off hopes alive while putting a big dent in West Coast's. Richmond gave their top 4 (and double play-off life) chances a huge boost when they secured a good win over Hawthorn, in doing so all but ending the Hawks late season surge to the play-offs. What was expected to be a tight Adelaide derby between two play-off teams turned out to be anything but as Adelaide demolished a dismal Port Adelaide by 84 points.ASA was running on default fuel this week.It was a good round this week as we went 87/117 for a strike rate of 74.35%, there were 3 perfect games as we all tipped Essendon, Western Bulldogs and Fremantle to win. The trickiest games to tip were the Sydney and St Kilda wins, even then 4 of us got each game correct.N-Bomb ruined paper_aero's attempts to earn a first weekly win with 8/9 when he went perfect with 9/9 and earned a bonus point in the process. Once again we had just 1 wooden spoon awarded when ElfTwinkle went 4/9. This still leaves only paper_aero without a weekly win.N-Bomb's perfect round sees him join gtho4 in 2nd place, both of them breathing down the neck of srini701 who holds on to his 1 point lead, ozzz2002 falls off the podium. There is a further 2 points back to George95 and Howie72. At the bottom, of the regular tippers Dizart leaps over ElfTwinkle.

The reigning premiers' play-off hopes are in danger after the Western Bulldogs went down at home to Greater Western Sydney, the Dogs had started the round in 7th place which will change as the round progresses. Sydney's march towards the top 4 continued as they demolished a woeful Fremantle by 104 points, the biggest margin between the two sides and the biggest winning margin this season. A dominant Geelong second quarter was almost undone by a poor third quarter but in the end they hung on to beat Richmond for the 13th time in a row. Brisbane trailed Gold Coast by 21 points at quarter time but turned that into a 1 point lead at half time, the second half was all the Lions as they roared their way to a 58 point thumping of the Suns. Adelaide kept top spot after accounting for Essendon, a 7 consecutive goal stretch late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter gave them the breathing space needed to cruise through the remainder of the game. West Coast did enough to beat Carlton and keep their finals hopes alive though they got a big scare when the Blues came from 35 points down to take the lead late in the third quarter. In what was effectively an elimination final it was the Melbourne Demons that kept their season alive while St Kilda now need a miracle. Hawthorn lead from start to fonish in Tasmania against North Melbourne, at one stage holding a 51 point lead before winning by 27. Port Adelaide survived a Collingwood comeback as the Magpies closed to within 8 points late in the third quarter before responding and pulling away again.ASA was running on default fuel this week.It was a very good round this week as we went 93/117 for a strike rate of 79.48%, helped no end by 4 perfect games as we all tipped Sydney, Adelaide, West Coast and Port Adelaide to win. The trickiest game to tip was Greater Western Sydney's win at the Western Bulldogs but even then 5 of us got this correct.It has finally happened, in the third to last round paper_aero has his first weekly win with 8/9 and is joined by wwe84, illiniman14, gtho4 and N-Bomb. A trio of spoons were handed out to Sypher, George95 and chogobad as they went 6/9, this being the highest wooden spoon score of the season. As mentioned, paper_aero fills in the final empty spot of the weekly win column.Once again we have a 3-way tie at the top with gtho4 and N-Bomb joining srini701. There is a 3 point gap to 4th so these 3 should finish on the podium barring a disaster in the final 2 rounds, gtho4 holds the countback advantage over N-Bomb with srini701 needing to be ahead of the other 2 after the final round. At the bottom, of the regular tippers ElfTwinkle remains 2 points behind and must be thankful for the long period illiniman14 was absent and ASA's continuing absence.

Sydney lost their first 6 games but when they beat table topping Adelaide in a thriller in Adelaide they moved into the top 4, the Swans having now won 13 of their last 15 games while the Crows will be ruing inaccurate goal kicking. Western Bulldogs took their home game against Port Adelaide to Ballarat but it was not a golden decision as they went down to Port Adealaide and virtually end their premiership defence. Despite not being at their best and missing some key players, Geelong was still good enough to account for Collingwood and seal their place in the top 4. It was a scrappy match but Greater Western Sydney came out on top over West Coast after kicking the last 3 goals to make sure of the win. Essendon did enough at Gold Coast to come out on top and move back into the top 8, largely keeping their play-off hopes in their own hands. Carlton beat Hawthorn for the first time since 2005 an din doing so extinguished the Hawks finals hopes. It was a nervous end for Melbourne as Brisbane challenged them late but they held on to all but secure their first finals berth since 2006. St Kilda's play-off hopes are slim but they did keep them alive after comfortably beating North Melbourne. It was Fremantle's final game at Domain Stadium but Richmond completely ruined their party as the Tigers thrashed the Dockers by 104 points.ASA was running on default fuel this week.It was a good round this week as we went 80/117 for a strike rate of 68.37% with another 3 perfect games as we all tipped Geelong, Greater Western Sydney and Melbourne to win. The trickiest game to tip was Carlton's first win over Hawthorn in their last 14 attempts which only ElfTwinkle managed to predict this.We had another 4 weekly winners this week when gtho4, illiniman14, George95 and chogobad all went 7/9, it was particulary important for gtho4 as I will explain later. Two wooden spoons were given out on the penultimate week with wwe84 and Howie72 both going 5/9.The importance of gtho4's weekly win is that he moves 1 point clear of srini701 and N-Bomb and has an unbeatable tie breaker so srini701 or N-Bomb need to beat him by 2 point in the final round. There is a 3 point gap to 4th so these 3 should finish on the podium barring a disaster in the final round. At the bottom, of the regular tippers ElfTwinkle remains 2 points behind.

Hawthorn finished their season on a winning note after accounting for the defendung 2016 premiers, both teams missing the 2017 finals. A win for Melbourne would cement their finals spot but Collingwood had other ideas and now the Demons have to hope that Essendon lose and West Coast do not beat Adelaide by about 4 goals or more. North Melbourne handed the wooden spoon to Brisbane after they travelled north and won by 51 points. Sydney head into the play-offs in top form after thrashing Carlton by 81 points. Geelong thumped Greater Western Sydney to secure second place and a crucial home qualifying final. Gold Coast's horror season has finally ended after their abysmal showing at Port Adelaide where they only scored 20 points for an 8th loss in a row. Essendon lead from start to finish against Fremantle but survived a Dockers comeback to secure a finals spot and leave Melbourne nervous. Richmond comfortably beat St Kilda to end in 3rd place, their first top 4 finish since 2001. It came down to the final game to determine the final play-off spot, West Coast hosted Adelaide and after their 29 point win sneaked into 8th place by a very narrow margin over Melbourne.ASA was running on default fuel this week.For some strange reason Howie72 missed tipping the Port Adelaide vs Gold Coast game and is thankful he had no chance of a podium finish.It was an okay final round as we went 69/116 for a strike rate of 59.48% though just 1 perfect game when we all tipped Sydney to beat Carlton. The trickiest game to tip was Collingwood's upset win over Melbourne where only wwe84 managed to predict this.The final round saw only wwe84 take the weekly win as he went 8/9 to carry momentum into next season. Three wooden spoons were handed out with Sypher, gtho4 and N-Bomb all going 4/9.The world is going to end, it has nothing to do with North Korea but India. N-Bomb had identical picks to gtho4 so that ruled him out of taking the competition win so it came down to srini701 needing to beat gtho4 by 2 picks. In the final analysis srini701 went 6/9 and gtho4 a wooden spoon 4/9 so our resident Indian expert takes home bragging rights and the imaginary trophy with N-Bomb surviving a wooden spoon to finish 3rd, just ahead of wwe84 and George95. At the bottom, of the regular tippers ElfTwinkle finishes 1 point behind Sypher. The end of the season awards are as follows:
