I'll follow the mainstream here by naming Clapton's "Tears In Heaven", which is really SO sad and beautiful... Other song that make my eyes get wet are
"Little Earthquakes", "China" - Tori Amos "Emotion Sickness" - Silverchair "The Outlaw Torn" - Metallica (that's not a joke!) "I Never Knew His Name" - from "The Civil War", a musical by Frank Wildhorn... but I won't name all the musical songs here, as this post would then become twice as long... "Le Fils de Superman" by Luc Plamondon. There are several recordings of the song; the one I know is by Céline Dion. The lyrics are so TERRIBLY sad and moving. I don't know the song by heart (moreover, it's French), but maybe I'll post it here someday.

I cannot even read the title without getting goosebumps..the Clapton song. Recently I had quite a shock, lost my job, and was driving around the next day and happened to put the radio on...I heard the opening lines...and I had to turn off the radio immediately! Sometimes songs that make you cry are good, they purge your tears.

"Is This The World We Created?" by Queen "On A Bus From St. Cloud" by Trisha Yearwood - her voice is just so pure "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly P before Whitney murdered it. I just remember the scene from "Best Little Whorehouse".
Songs that are now very poignant because they remind me of my Dad and always catch me by surprise are:
"The Power of Love" by Jennifer Rush - I hated it, I still don't like it, but it was my Dad's fave and it gets me every time.
"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - my Dad used to sing "Don't Cry For Me Georgie-nina" when I was little.
You've got me started now so I'm off!

Just heard one this morning...Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle". Not sure but probably the fact he went to the great beyond to see the junkhouse dog quite early isn't something to do with it though... I always liked his voice anyway before he left.

I heard one of mine yesterday - Dream a Little Dream. There is also a wonderful cover version of this performed - in French - by The Beautiful South. It is titled Les Yeux Ouverts, and, I believe, featured in the movie French Kiss. I'm not sure if it the song, or if it is who it reminds me of that brings tears to my eyes, but whenever I hear it, I have to excuse myself and leave the room, because guys aren't allowed to cry!

Dream a Little Dream in the Mamas and Papas version is very tender, I see what you mean... Haven't actually heard the French version, that's odd, I'm reasonably well versed on the French music scene too..for a Yank...

Was sung in French but maybe not released in France. It was a B-side on a UK Beautiful South single, and was also definitely on the soundtrack to French Kiss. (Just dug it out of the CD collection to check!)

"How Do You Get That Lonely? by Blaine Larsen is a real tear jerker.
It was just another story printed on the second page Underneath the Tiger's football score It said he was only eighteen, a boy about my age They found him face down on the bedroom floor They found him face down on his bedroom floor
There'll be services on Friday at the Lawrence Funeral Home Then out on Mooresville highway, they'll lay him 'neath a stone...
How do you get that lonely, how do you hurt that bad To make you make the call, that havin' no life at all Is better than the life that you had How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go How do you get that lonely... and nobody know
Did his girlfriend break up with him, did he buy or steal that gun? Did he lose a fight with drugs or alcohol? Did his Mom and Daddy forget to say I love you son? Did no one see the writing on the wall?
I'm not blamin' anybody, we all do the best we can I know hindsight's 20/20, but I still don't understand...
How do you get that lonely, how do you hurt that bad To make you make the call, that havin' no life at all Is better than the life that you had How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go How do you get that lonely... and nobody know
It was just another story printed on the second page Underneath the Tiger's football score...

Every one would agree with me that they always remember what they do/did during summer holidays. I think "For Eternity" by Robbie Williams would bring tears (of joy or sadness) to your eyes. It surely brought me back the memories of summer 1982 while I was studying in the States.

Savage Garden - Two Beds and a Coffee Machine - it's about domestic vioence and reminds me of someone. I feel like crying every time I hear it.. but it's one of my favourite songs.
Bette Midler - Wind Beneath My WIngs makes me feel like crying as well, but it's my all time favourite song! The reason it makes me sad? It was my step mum's favourite song as well. We were very close, but unfortunately she died when I was 12.
Bon Jovil - Always makes me want to cry too, ut I'm not sure why.
The lyrics to Two Beds and a Coffee Machine:
And she takes another step Slowly she opens the door Check that he is sleeping Pick up all the broken glass And furniture on the floor Been up half the night screaming Now it's time to get away Pack up the kids in the car Another bruise to try and hide Another alibi to write Another ditch in the road You keep moving Another stop sign You keep moving on And the years go by so fast Wonder how I ever made it through
And there are children to think of Baby's asleep in the back seat Wonder how they'll ever make it Through this living nightmare But the mind is an amazing thing Full of candy dreams and new toys And another cheap hotel Two beds and a coffee machine But there are groceries to buy And she knows she'll have to go home
Another ditch in the road You keep moving Another stop sign You keep moving on And the years go by so fast Wonder how I ever made it through
Another bruise to try and hide Another alibi to write Another lonely highway in the black of night There's hope in the darkness I know you're gonna make it
Another ditch in the road Keep moving Another stop sign You keep moving on And the years go by so fast Silent fortress built to last Wonder how I ever made it

Three songs break me up: Yesterday When I was Young originally done by Roy Clark but I prefer the version by Julio Iglesias.
In My Life by the Beatles
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland. Probably because my sister died in 1999, My mother in 2002 & my father in 2003. "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow."

There are a few - maybe they don't make me cry, but they sure get some kind of response out of me!
Our Town - Iris de Ment [ they played that on the last episode of Northern Exposure]
Have Your Self A Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland [although James Taylor has a version which makes me absolutely worthless for about 15 minutes afterward ]
Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
And the worst one? I'll Be Seeing You -sung by almost anybody

The Lemon Parade by Tonic makes me cry every time I hear it. Darlin' One by The Replacements can usually cue the water works pretty quickly too. I'm such a sap.

Cup of Coffee song lyrics
You told me you don't love me Over a cup of coffee And I just have to look away A million miles between us Planets crash into dust I just let it fade away
I'm walking empty streets Hoping we might meet I see your car parked on the road The light on at your window I know for sure that you're home But I just have to pass on by
So no, of course we can't be friends Not while I'm still this obsessed I guess I always knew the score This is how our story ends
I smoke your brand of cigarettes And pray that you might give me a call I lie around on bed all day just staring at the walls Hanging round the bars at night, wishing I had never been born Give myself to anyone who wants to take me home
So no, of course we can't be friends Not while I still feel like this I guess I always knew the score This is where our story ends
You left behind some clothes My belly summersaults When I pick them off the floor My friends all say they're worried I'm looking far too skinny I've stoped returning all their calls
And no of course we can't be friends Not while I'm still this obsessed I want to ask where I went wrong But don't say anything at all
It took a cup of coffee To prove that you don't love me Incredible.

Flynn, ... sniff, sniff those lyrics are really sad.
This one always gets me.
How Can I Help You To Say Goodbye?
Through the back window of a '59 wagon I watched my best friend Jamie slippin' further away I kept on waving 'till I couldn't see her And through my tears, I asked again why we couldn't stay Mama whispered softly, Time will ease your pain Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same
And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye? It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry Come, let me hold you and I will try How can I help you to say goodbye?
I sat on our bed, he packed his suitcase I held a picture of our wedding day His hands were trembling, we both were crying He kissed me gently and then he quickly walked away I called up Mama, she said, Time will ease your pain Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same
And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye? It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry Come, let me hold you and I will try How can I help you to say goodbye?
Sitting with Mama alone in her bedroom She opened her eyes, and then squeezed my hand She said, I have to go now, my time here is over And with her final word, she tried to help me understand Mama whispered softly, Time will ease your pain Life's about changing, nothing ever stays the same
And she said, How can I help you to say goodbye? It's OK to hurt, and it's OK to cry Come, let me hold you and I will try How can I help you to say goodbye?
How can I help you to say goodbye?

Oh boy. Believe it or not Bally, this is another one that I almost posted but then just didn't. I've had to say goodbye too soon, too many times. I really can't even think about this song...If it comes on the radio I will change the station. Right away.

Weird answers from me (what else is new? ). There was a song in the mid 70s by Sammy Johns called Chevy Van that always gets me. To most it would not be sad, I suppose, but it reminds me of the breezy simplicity of my youth and how that went away so fast. Broadway tunes often have a go at my emotions, too. There's A Place For Us & Maria from "West Side Story" both always soak a Kleenex. I suppose I shouldn't expose that softer side since we men are expected to be rigidly stoic . But I volunteer that it's a relief and a release when things like a song let the walls down for a few minutes.

Oh man, I am such a cry baby. I even cry during sappy, cheesy commercials on TV.
Like Draculanut mentioned, "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle always makes me cry because I'm also very close to my dad. "November Rain" by Guns & Roses makes me blubber like a little baby 'cause it was the song playing on the radio when I met my boyfriend and it was also the song playing on the radio when we broke up 2 years later.
"Coward of the County" by Kenny Rogers used to make me cry when I was a young'un, I should put it on now to see it if it still does. "In the Ghetto" by Elvis Presley made me cry the first couple of times I heard it last year. There are many others.

How about Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here?" I heard it once immediately after a funeral, and it hit me. Ever since then that song triggers emotions when I hear it. It never fails to make me strongly miss someone. Its different everytime; sometimes I pine away for an old girlfriend, another time I think of the day of my grandfather's funeral, and maybe another time I'll miss my family. But that song has a triggering effect for that particular emotion. A strong triggering effect. And Flynn, don't feel alone, I've been reduced to obsession by an ex as well. Luckily it didn't last too long. But it does happen, even to people who think it can't happen to them.
