I'd say also the whole Jeff Buckley "Grace" album is worthy of a tear or two.

The words get me but I think the reason I'm actually moved to tears is the Cello in the chorus...you know the part where there's the break and the Cello plays the line? The overall mood of that song is just amazing...the emotion in it.

To King01: Have you listened to the whole "o" album? Damien Rice seems to make raw emotion come out in all of his songs. it's as though he feels every note of every song. I LOVE the hidden track at the very end of Eskimo. That's one that tears my heart out everytime I hear it.
And yes, that's my favorite part of that song too.

This is completely off the point, but the song of the 'Stripped' album, 'I'm OK' by Christina Aguilera was soooooo sad, because it was real and about something that's happened in her pas that she can't get over, which can be really heartbreaking in places, particularly when she's crying through it.
Eva Cassidy's 'Yesterday' is quite sad too. Yeah it's an old one, but there's so much feeling in it.

I have the "O" album and I love it...the song "Cannonball" is one that really sticks out in my mind as well. That melody is very...I don't even know the word for it...it's just amazing.

There are two songs that can make me sob like a baby anytime I hear them; "I'll Be Missing You" by P. Diddy and Faith Evans, and "What Hurts the Most" by the Rascal Flatts.
"I'll Be Missing You" by P.Diddy and Faith Evans.
Yeah, this right here goes out to everyone that has lost someone or that truly loved.... Check it out....
Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show I laced the track, you locked the flow So far from hangin' on the block for dough Notorius they got to know that Life ain't always what it seem to be Words can't express what you mean to me! Even though you're gone we still a team Thru your family I'll fulfill your dreams In the future can't wait to see if you'll Open up the gates for me Reminisce sometime the night they took my friend Try to black it out, but it plays again When it's real feelings hard to conceal Can't imagine all the pain I feel Give anything to hear half your breath I know you still livin' your life after death
CHORUS: Every step I take Every move I make Every single day Everytime I pray I'll be missing you
Thinking of the day When you went away What a life to take What a bond to break I'll be missing you
(We miss you, Big....)
It's kinda hard wit you not around Know you in Heaven smilin' down Watching us while we pray for you Everyday we pray for you Till the day we meet again In my heart is where I keep you friend Memories give me the strength I need to proceed Strength I need to believe My thoughts, Big, I just can't define Wish I could turn back the hands of time Us and the six shop for new clothes and kicks You and me takin' flics Makin' hits, stages they receive you on Still can't believe you're gone Give anything to hear half your breath I know you still livin' your life after death
CHORUS
Somebody tell me why...
One black morning When this life is over I know, I'll see your face
Every night I pray Every step I take Every move I make Every single day Every night I pray Every step I take Every move I make Every single day Every night I pray Every step I take Every move I make Every single day Every night I pray Every step I take Every move I make Every single day
Chorus
Every night I pray Every step I take Every move I make Every single day
Chorus
Every night I pray Every step I take Every move I make Every single day
(We miss you)
"What Hurts the Most"- the Rascal Flatts
I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house That don't bother me I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while Even though going on with you gone still upsets me There are days every now and again I pretend I'm ok But that's not what gets me
What hurts the most Was being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was tryin' to do
It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go But I'm doin' It It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone Still Harder Getting up, getting dressed, livin' with this regret But I know if I could do it over I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart That I left unspoken
What hurts the most Is being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was trying to do
What hurts the most Is being so close And having so much to say And watching you walk away And never knowing What could have been And not seeing that loving you Is what I was trying to do
Not seeing that loving you That's what I was trying to do Ooohhh....

I enjoy Cannonball, but by far my favorite song on the album is I Remember. The Passion in the end when he is screaming in what feels to me like tremendous sorrow. His emotions are so raw. I could listen to him forever.

Any song that was wtitten with love for a Dad makes me cry. I am Daddy's little girl in the worst sort of way! He has never shown me anything but honesty and kindness. What else can I say, I am tearing up now! I love you Dad!

Concrete Angel by Martina McBride, it's about an abused little girl who dies and it's one of the most heartbreakingly realistic songs I've ever heard, the video clip brings me to tears just as easily.

Hi! I found this forum when I was looking for the lyrics to Secret Garden's "Sleepsong." Here are some of my favorite sad/emotional songs (some of which have been mentioned by others previously):
Hurt - Christina Aguilera. (The song itself is very emotional, but it was the video that did it for me. I am very much a Daddy's girl, and it just struck a chord in me that no song ever has before. I absolutely balled my eyes out.) Holes in the Floor of Heaven - Steve Wariner On Eagles Wings (my favorite old church song) Time Machine & Love, Me - Collin Raye The Lighthouse's Tale - Nickel Creek How do you get that lonely? - Blaine Larson How can I help you say goodbye? - Patty Loveless (gets me every single time!) God's Will - Martina McBride I Will Love You - Fisher (One of those songs that need to be heard rather than read; her voice is very haunting and poignent in the song, it is very touching.)
One Moment More - Mindy Smith (Written by Mindy for her Mother, and always makes me think of my parents, but I think can qualify for any loved one):
Hold me Even though I know you're leaving And show me All the reasons you would stay It's just enough to feel your breath on mine To warm my soul and ease my mind You've got to hold me and show me now
Give me Just one part of you to cling to And keep me Everywhere you are It's just enough to steal my heart and run And fade out with the falling sun
Oh, please don't go Let me have you just one moment more Oh, all I need All I want is just one moment more You've got to hold me and keep me
Tell me that someday you'll be returning And maybe Maybe I'll believe It's just enough to see a shooting star To know you're never really far It's just enough to see a shooting star To know you're never really gone
Oh, please don't go Let me have you just one moment more Oh, all I need All I want is just one moment more
Oh, please don't go Let me have you just one moment more Oh, all I need All I want is just one moment more You've got to hold me and maybe I'll believe
So hold me Even though I know you're leaving

I don't know how I missed this the first few times around but here goes:
Ever since the first time I felt my daughter kick I have cried whenever I hear Puff the Magic Dragon. Seriously sobbed. I have loved that song since I was a child and I felt my daughter kick for the very first time during the chorus of that song. It just makes me choke up.
Other songs that turn on the waterworks for me:
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. Especially the lines "Does anyone know where the love of god goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours" and "all that remains is the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters"
It's in Every One of Us by John Denver, featuring the Muppets. I cried when Jim Henson died. I love the muppets.
Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, originally by Nine Inch Nails.
The Streets of Laredo, the Marty Robbins version.
Vincent by Don McClean Tea and Sympathy by Janis Ian So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright and For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her by Simon and Garfunkle
Oh man, I'm a crier I guess. lol

So many of those are my favourites, too... Wreck Of the Edmund Fitzgerald...Vincent... Streets Of Laredo...For Emily...So Long Frank Lloyd Wright. All very powerful songs, especially S and G's arrangement of 'For Emily'. The Only Living Boy in New York has always appealed to me in a melancholy way, too.

Ooh, I came very close to mentioning that one too, Kstew. Another great one is Crossroads by Don McLean: Quote:
I’ve got nothing on my mind: nothing to remember, Nothing to forget. and I’ve got nothing to regret, But I’m all tied up on the inside, No one knows quite what I’ve got; And I know that on the outside What I used to be, I’m not anymore.
You know I’ve heard about people like me, But I never made the connection. They walk one road to set them free And find they’ve gone the wrong direction.
But there’s no need for turning back `cause all roads lead to where I stand. And I believe I’ll walk them all No matter what I may have planned.
Can you remember who I was? can you still feel it? Can you find my pain? can you heal it? Then lay your hands upon me now And cast this darkness from my soul. You alone can light my way. You alone can make me whole once again.
We’ve walked both sides of every street Through all kinds of windy weather. But that was never our defeat As long as we could walk together.
So there’s no need for turning back `cause all roads lead to where we stand. And I believe we’ll walk them all No matter what we may have planned.
And also by Don McLean, and this one gets me EVERY time I hear it, The Grave.
Quote:
The grave that they dug him had flowers Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colors, And the brown earth bleached white at the edge of his gravestone. He’s gone.
When the wars of our nation did beckon, A man barely twenty did answer the calling. Proud of the trust that he placed in our nation, He’s gone, But eternity knows him, and it knows what we’ve done.
And the rain fell like pearls on the leaves of the flowers Leaving brown, muddy clay where the earth had been dry. And deep in the trench he waited for hours, As he held to his rifle and prayed not to die.
But the silence of night was shattered by fire As guns and grenades blasted sharp through the air. And one after another his comrades were slaughtered. In morgue of marines, alone standing there.
He crouched ever lower, ever lower with fear. "they can’t let me die! the can’t let me die here! I’ll cover myself with the mud and the earth. I’ll cover myself! I know I’m not brave! The earth! the earth! the earth is my grave."
The grave that they dug him had flowers Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colors, And the brown earth bleached white at the edge of his gravestone. He’s gone.
I also tend to tear up a little when I hear Wond'ring Aloud by Jethro Tull. It was played at my first wedding, and it's a sweet little song, but bittersweet now, for me.

There is one song that i cry everytime i hear it, so here are the lyrics! I listen to this song at least twice a day, and i always tear up! It is called 'Im not Okay (I Promise)' By My Chemical Romance!
Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way. For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took, Remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor?
I'm not okay I'm not okay I'm not okay You wear me out
What will it take to show you that it's not the life it seems? (I'm not okay) I've told you time and time again you sing the words but don't know what it means (I'm not okay) To be a joke and look, another line without a hook I held you close as we both shook for the last time take a good hard look!
I'm not okay I'm not okay I'm not okay You wear me out
Forget about the dirty looks The photographs your boyfriend took You said you read me like a book, but the pages all are torn and frayed
I'm okay I'm okay! I'm okay, now (I'm okay, now)
But you really need to listen to me Because I'm telling you the truth I mean this, I'm okay! (Trust Me)
I'm not okay I'm not okay Well, I'm not okay I'm not o-f**king-kay I'm not okay I'm not okay (Okay)

Woah MCRismyLIFE...I admit I love the song I'm Not Okay (I Promise) but it's definitely not anything that should make one cry. It actually makes me really happy because it's so catchy and up-beat.

Hmmm... my first posting, so here goes.
I cried, on the way to pick up my grandparents at the hotel when my father died, to "Woman in Chains" by Tears for Fears. "Spread your Wings" by Queen also chokes me up.
But 2 especially:
This first one I played over and over after Pan Am Flight 103 went down. 33 students from Syracuse were on that plane and I knew most of them. It was a terrible time. I did a slide show at the end of the year and used this song as the background for the pictures I got of the students who were in Greek houses:
In My Memory by The Call
In my memory I can still see that face In my memory I can still hear the voice I remember talkin’ with you The stories I could tell In my memory, I remember you still You gave the poet words to speak You were the sun to warm my days You put us in each others hands You gave me love before I asked In my memory I can still see that face In my memory I can still hear the voice I remember talkin’ with you The stories I could tell In my memory, I remember you still I feel my heart will surely break I’ve taken all that I can take You were the light for me to see You were the sky that covered me In my memory I can still see that face In my memory I can still hear the voice I remember talkin’ with you For hours by the well In my memory, I remember you still In my memory I can still see the eyes In my memory I can still feel your touch I remember talkin’ with you The stories I could tell In my memory, I remember you still
And this one was my dad's favorite and everytime I hear it, I think of him, as it's been 17 years since he died.
Neil Diamond - If You Know What I Mean Lyrics
When the night returns just like a friend When the evening comes to set me free When the quiet hours That wait beyond the day Make peaceful sounds in me
Took a drag from my last cigarette Took a drink from a glass of old wine I closed my eyes and I could make it real And feel it one more time
Can you hear it, babe Can you hear it, babe From another time, from another place Do you remember it, babe
And the radio played like a carnival tune As we lay in our bed in the other room When we gave it away For the sake of a dream in a penny arcade If you know what I mean If you know what I mean, babe
And here's to the songs we used to sing And here's to the times we used to know It's hard to hold them in our arms again But hard to let them go Do you hear it, babe Do you hear it, babe
It was another time It was another place Do you remember it, babe
And the radio played like a carnival tune As we lay in our bed in the other room When we gave it away For the sake of a dream in a penny arcade If you know what I mean If you know what I mean If you know what I mean If you know what I mean
If you know what I mean, babe If you know what I mean

Yeah it is a very awesome song. I love it, actually i love all of MCR's songs.
There is on other MCR song that had me in tears, Helena, because i knew it was about Gerard and Mikeys grandmother, and my Grams had just passed away aswell. But it only ever made me cry once, i love that song, here i will put the lyrics, and i know most people will look at the lyrics and just think i am weird. But hey, MCR saved my life, there songs mean more to me then they do most people.
Long ago Just like the hearse you die to get in again We are so far from you
Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate The lives of everyone you know And what's the worst you take (worst you take) from every heart you break (heart you break) And like the blade you stain (blade you stain) Well I've been holding on tonight
What's the worst that I can say? Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight
Came a time When every star fall brought you to tears again We are the very hurt you sold And what's the worst you take (worst you take) from every heart you break (heart you break) And like the blade you stain (blade you stain) Well I've been holding on tonight
What's the worst that I can say? Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight And if you carry on this way Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight
Can you hear me? Are you near me? Can we pretend to leave and then We'll meet again When both our cars collide?
What's the worst that I can say? Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight And if you carry on this way Things are better if I stay So long and goodnight So long and goodnight
