Sad Lisa by Cat Stevens, one of my favourite Cat Stevens songs. Lyrics: She hangs her head and cries on my shirt. She must be hurt very badly. Tell me whats making you sadly? Open your door, dont hide in the dark. Youre lost in the dark, you can trust me. cause you know thats how it must be.
Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.
Her eyes like windows, tricklin rain Upon her pain getting deeper. Though my love wants to relieve her. She walks alone from wall to wall. Lost in a hall, she cant hear me. Though I know she likes to be near me.
Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.
She sits in a corner by the door. There must be more I can tell her. If she really wants me to help her. Ill do what I can to show her the way. And maybe one day I will free her. Though I know no one can see her.
Lisa lisa, sad lisa lisa.
And Runaway Train by Soul Asylum, One of my all time favourite songs. Lyrics:
Call you up in the middle of the night Like a firefly without a light You were there like a slow torch burning I was a key that could use a little turning
So tired that I couldn't even sleep So many secrets I couldn't keep Promised myself I wouldn't weep One more promise I couldn't keep
It seems no one can help me now I'm in too deep There's no way out This time I have really led myself astray
CHORUS Runaway train never going back Wrong way on a one way track Seems like I should be getting somewhere Somehow I'm neither here no there
Can you help me remember how to smile Make it somehow all seem worthwhile How on earth did I get so jaded Life's mystery seems so faded
I can go where no one else can go I know what no one else knows Here I am just drownin' in the rain With a ticket for a runaway train
Everything is cut and dry Day and night, earth and sky Somehow I just don't believe it
CHORUS
Bought a ticket for a runaway train Like a madman laughin' at the rain Little out of touch, little insane Just easier than dealing with the pain
Runaway train never comin' back Runaway train tearin' up the track Runaway train burnin' in my veins Runaway but it always seems the same

Quite a few of the songs of Naomi Shemer, a prolific Israeli songwriter and icon of the past century. Many of her songs are loaded with an evocative poignancy that express so well the pain and joys of living in the Holy Land. The songs are in Hebrew of course but the lyrics, though beautiful, are not necessary to catch the mood. Guaranteed to make an old expatriat Israeli instantly nostalgic. Someone sent a copy of 'Hurshat HaEucalyptus', 'The Eucalyptus grove' to my facebook, omw I was teary eyed in a minute.

I was just thinking about Dimebag last night. Such a sad thing.

dfc4385, if you're speaking about me, I wasn't poking fun! I was listening to Pantera on my iPod last night and got to thinking about how Dimebag died. Period. If you have ready any posts by me, you'll find that I like all kinds of music but metal, especially industrial (i.e., Rammstein), is my favorite.

Years ago, while watching the AKC Westminster Dog Show on TV, a commercial was played continuously showing dogs in cages waiting to be adopted at a shelter. The song that was played was "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. To this day, everytime I hear that song I think of those pitiful faces looking out between the bars and I cry.

"And the band played Waltzing Matilda" will get me looking for a tissue every time.. and "I was only 19" isn't much better.

I've managed to read through the entire lot of these. Some songs I know well and can relate, others I have no idea about. I guess that's a good thing if you're a music freak like me ... plenty of time to investigate and try to understand their relevance. The one that always reduces me to tears is by Wendy Matthews, 'The Day You Went Away.' I think it's one you need to listen to to get the gist of though.
Hey, does it ever make you wonder what's on my mind I, I was only ever running to your side I never cried, I just watched my life go by It's just a pack of lies, 'cause you're leaving me behind Why, after this long is there nothing I'll keep, oh, I can shout you'll pretend you're falling asleep I live a lie, yeah, believing that you're mine It's just a waste of time 'cause you're leaving me behind
Hey, there's not a cloud in the sky It's as blue as your goodbye and I thought it would rain on a day like today Hey, there's not a cloud in sight it's as blue as your blue goodbye and I thought it would rain the day you went away

Hardly any that make me cry but one that gets me every time is Flipsyde's "Happy Birthday" - combination of song/video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2DxJW6ytSs

This Is Not Goodbye by Melissa Etheridge
Bravely you let go of my hand I can't speak yet you understand Where I go now I go alone This path I walk these days of stone
And the angels are calling
[Chorus:] I must go away Wait for me here Silently stay And don't ask me why Only believe This is not good bye
All of my strength all my desire Still cannot melt this breath of fire I go to meet some kind of test Bury the truth that scars my chest And the angels are calling and calling
[Chorus]
I gathered all my courage I shaved off all my fear With this banner on my shoulder I hold your essence near
And the angels are calling and calling and calling
I believe she wrote this when she had cancer

I was watching a Beatles documentary one night and Paul McCartney starting playing "Let it Be" and I wept! It was a stressful time in my life, but a great realization of just simply letting it be. Got it tattooed on my arm after that.
And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be. For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see, there will be an answer: let it be.

Kev Carmody / Paul Kelly: Gather round people let me tell you a story An eight year long story of power and pride British Lord Vestey and Vincent Lingiarri Were opposite men on opposite sides Vestey was fat with money and muscle Beef was his business, broad was his door Vincent was lean and spoke very little He had no bank balance, hard dirt was his floor From little things big things grow From little things big things grow Gurindji were working for nothing but rations Where once they had gathered the wealth of the land Daily the pressure got tighter and tighter Gurindju decided they must make a stand They picked up their swags and started off walking At Wattie Creek they sat themselves down Now it don't sound like much but it sure got tongues talking Back at the homestead and then in the town From little things big things grow From little things big things grow Vestey man said I'll double your wages Seven quid a week you'll have in your hand Vincent said uhuh we're not talking about wages We're sitting right here till we get our land Vestey man roared and Vestey man thundered You don't stand the chance of a cinder in snow Vince said if we fall others are rising From little things big things grow From little things big things grow Then Vincent Lingiarri boarded an aeroplane Landed in Sydney, big city of lights And daily he went round softly speaking his story To all kinds of men from all walks of life And Vincent sat down with big politicians This affair they told him is a matter of state Let us sort it out, your people are hungry Vincent said no thanks, we know how to wait From little things big things grow From little things big things grow Then Vincent Lingiarri returned in an aeroplane Back to his country once more to sit down And he told his people let the stars keep on turning We have friends in the south, in the cities and towns Eight years went by, eight long years of waiting Till one day a tall stranger appeared in the land And he came with lawyers and he came with great ceremony And through Vincent's fingers poured a handful of sand From little things big things grow From little things big things grow That was the story of Vincent Lingairri But this is the story of something much more How power and privilege can not move a people Who know where they stand and stand in the law From little things big things grow From little things big things grow From little things big things grow From little things big things grow

i cried when i first heard marian anderson sing mahler's kindertotenlieder. still do when just about anybody sings it. want to hear it i prefer two singers von otter and ferrier. let me know how you like them and the music. i know classical music is not much popular now days but to me it is the most beautiful music of all. after all i did name my team in part for it.

hi all this is not to say that other forms of music have not have had their impact on me. i, too, get caught when i hear waltzing matilda. a woman named sun taught me to love "i want to know what love is" by foreigner. yesterday by the beatles gets me as well. a whitney houston song (sorry since my last strokes and heart attacks don't remember so well or so fast) can't quite remember the name--apologies.
