I have a very strange problem. For some reason, the scroll feature on my mouse will not work on this website. This started happening yesterday. When I log on, it will work properly, but then will just stop working. I have a wired mouse, and it works fine on every other website except this one. The only way to make it work is to log out completely and then log back on. When I do this, it will scroll for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, and then stop. There is nothing wrong with my mouse, because it only does it on this Fun Trivia, and nowhere else. Any ideas?

I am having the same exact issue and posted the same exact thing to my teams board. Only mine has been going on for about 4 or 5 days now, I have to close out my browser and sign back in to resolve the issue. My mouse is wireless and I use google chrome(up to date) my pointer and everything will still work it's just my ability to scroll. Any other information needed please ask..

How strange... not sure what to suggest. Nothing on the site has changed, and I can't think of anything that would affect mouse scrolling.

Do you both have a second web browser you could use for a day or so and see if that fixes the issue?

Would either of you two mind checking for me if you haven't already..when it happens is it everywhere on the site that you lose the scroll function? Particularly forum side vs game side. Also if you could switch to mobile mode and back and see if that jumps anything.

Also (I assume so based on daver's wording but just want to be sure) when it goes out can you leave FT...have the scroll function work elsewhere and come back in here and scrolling is still disabled?

And finally...if you don't mind outing yourself on consumer preferences a bit, what brand of mouse do both of you use?

I had the same problem yesterday but haven't had any issues with it today.

If you have had the problem at all over the last few days:

- What browser are you using
- What type of mouse

My guess is that a driver or update changed something to either a web browser, a mouse driver, etc... that is interfering. I can't imagine what else it could be.

It just happened to me after playing the hard hourly game, so now would be the best time to answer everyone's questions.

Browser: Chrome
Mouse: Logitech (wireless)
Antivirus: Bitdefender 2017 Total Security

It has happened while playing a game, after a game and once happened as soon as I signed in; I signed in and I clicked on my teams message board, after that it did it. I was probably signed in for a total of 10-15 secs. As I said already, my pointer will still work I can click on links and that sort of stuff. I can also use the sidebar to scroll up and down on the page, it's just my mouse(wheel) I am not able too.

I've been having this off and on over the past few days - the scroll function just stops. The fix seems to be to restart the computer. I don't know if it's only FT - I don't scroll on that many other sites.

Disable Smooth Scrolling

This link, when opened in a new Chrome tab, is the easiest way to disable Smooth Scrolling. I just did it, and it worked like a charm. Scroll down on the list of options when the page opens. Smooth-scrolling will have "Default" with a dropdown box next to it. Click on it and choose disable and then restart browser. All of hyour open tabs will come back and the smooth scrolling will be disabled.

I'm glad I saw this thread since I was about to replace my mouse which is scrolling like a snail rather than a mouse. I'm using a Chromebook and can't access Smooth Scrolling. Not being particularly computer savvy I've never used touchpad but have figured it out (hopefully not for too long!).

Clicking on and holding the sidebar will move it, but clicking above or below it does nothing. That feature used to work. Other websites are working for me.

My mouse is now working properly again, and has been for several days.

I don't know if that response was intended for me, but my mouse is working great. There is no lag. All other websites I access have the sidebar working fine when I click above or below the bar. FT only works with holding the bar and moving it.

I had that problem last night (around 2:30 am or so). Needless to say, my Easy game score was not very impressive, lol. So far today it is working fine. *knock on wood*

FunTrivia has nothing to do with mouses working or not working. Websites can't stop your mouse from working. If there is a problem with your mouse, it is an issue with your web browser. Nothing has changed on our site code-wise in at least a month.

I suggest using a browser that doesn't exhibit such buggy behavior. I also wish chrome would start testing changes they make to their browser updates before releasing them.

ssabreman, if you read the Bug Report page (accessible via the page Terry linked to) you'll see what some of us suspected - the problem isn't with our mice but with Chrome. In particular, the techies at Chrome have now pinned the problem to something that happens when users click to a new page and start scrolling very quickly - behaviour which you would expect on FT when people click to a game page and start scrolling down the questions, or on other pages people are very familiar with, such as a forum index when the section the need is some way down. FT is not the only site affected by any means, some much larger sites are affected just as much, but the issue lies with changes made to the browser and not with any individual site.

According to the Bug Report, a solution has been found and will be included in the next update of Chrome. I am currently using Version 57.0.2987.133 (64-bit); when that's updated I shall need to go back to the Chrome smooth scrolling setting shown above and reset it to Enabled. You can check your Chrome version number by clicking on the Toolbar icon that looks like a colon with three dots, then scroll down to and click on Help, and select About Chrome. Chrome updates like this tend to take a few days to get through the process so it's worth keeping an eye on that version number.

Flopsy - when it does get updated, and it's OK for us to go back to the smooth scrolling setting, would you be so kind as to let us know through this thread?

Thank you. I was able to follow your very clear instructions to confirm that my version of Chrome is the same one as you have. I shall be glad to get smooth scrolling back - it feels very strange at present.

Chrome released an update a few days ago which has now reached the UK so I imagine it's available in most countries. Your browser may update itself automatically but you can check to see if it has already done that or try to force an update by doing the following:

Click on the Chrome Toolbar icon that looks like a colon (:) with three dots. Scroll down to and click on Help, then select About Chrome.

If the version number is still 57.0.2987.133 Chrome may try to update itself then and there. Wait for it to finish, then click on the "Relaunch Chrome" button when it appears.

The new version is Version 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit). (If your machine is still using 32 bit, no doubt it will say that within the brackets.)

If your Chrome doesn't update itself immediately, don't worry - it takes them a while to roll new versions out worldwide so check again every day until you get the new version.

Then... in a new tab, type "chrome://flags/#smooth-scrolling" (without the inverted commas "") into the address bar and hit return. Under the heading "Smooth Scrolling" select "Enabled" from the drop down menu and at the bottom of the page, click on "Relaunch Now".

If we're really, really lucky that will have fixed the problem. If it doesn't, we can all scream at Google again.
