I grabbed a challenge called "Believe It or Don't" from the author's challenge. I created the quiz, put it in the selected category, and then made it a standard quiz. But before I even wrote the first question, I realized it would make a better photo quiz. Not to mention it would be fun to draw some of the things I was picturing....

I couldn't go back to change it into a photo quiz, so I deleted it and hoped for the best. But it's not back on the list of author's challenges.

Did I ruin it so no one can ever grab that quiz challenge? And can I still do it, but as a photo quiz?

Thank you!!

Er, also, when would I post a question here vs. one of the other author boards? Please forgive me if this question doesn't belong here and point me in the right direction.

This is a good place for the question. Kyle can give you a better answer than me, but I believe that once you have taken and abandoned it you can no longer claim the title, but it is available again for others.

The challenge is back in unclaimed (near the bottom), not sure if you can use it again if you just deleted the template. If you gave it back, you can't claim it again, but not sure what happens if you delete without returning the challenge first.

This is one of those gosh-darn bugs I've been going on about for a few years.

Short answer: no.

Once you delete the template and it has that quiz title, the system automatically believes that you don't want to write that challenge quiz, and if you try to reclaim it from the challenge list, it will lose its challenge designation when the site has its maintenance period early in the morning, so it will still be a quiz...just not a challenge quiz.

Long answer: yes?

The way to circumvent that loss of designation is by renaming the quiz. If you add even one letter, the system will be tricked into believing your deleted quiz is still deleted and there's nothing to worry about. If you slightly change the challenge title to 'Believe It or Do Not' or 'Believe Me or Don't' when you create it the second time, the system will believe you're doing A-OK.

I had no idea that his could be done. I wanted to change one of the Author's Challenge titles that had taken to say "Color" instead of "Colour", since my spelling by default is American English. I was too chicken though, and "Colour" stayed in the title, and I carried it through in the rest of the quiz, though it was the only Brit./Can. sspelling norm used. It has always looked strange to me.

Are you saying that I could have made that change and still had the Challenge recognized as a Challenge? I thought if I changed the title at all, even for something as small as that, it would no longer be an Author's Challenge.

Thanks,

Sue

It's usually at a certain discretion. I would have no issue if the quiz title were to have a word changed for a regional spelling or to correct a typo or to add quotation marks around a media title.

If the author changes the title completely or replaces a couple words or adds in something that runs a different direction from the submitter's original intent, I'd call shenanigans. wink
