How about a Suggestions thread for the board?

My first suggestion (for this thread, anyway) concerns the table of information on the "My Results" page for the hourly games or the "Me" page for the daily games. On each page is an oversized column for FT Points in the first instance or Bonus Awarded points in the second instance. Honestly, when you're at 50K+ points, and most regulars are well over a million at this point, I doubt anyone cares. How about eliminating that column and adding a new column on the far right for final rank versus everyone?

Some other places that could use a column change: Last Month's Final Ranks from the Info and Ranks page; If you tighten up the "Active","Heroes", and "Smartest" columns, you'd have room to squeeze in the Mixed Trivia results. Last Hour's Scores in Cake, Mixed, and Smartest; I see you already eliminated the out-of-date and inaccurate "Award" column from Smartest; you should do that in Cake and Mixed as well; in addition, you could now add back in the team names that were eliminated years ago when you went to the divisions.

Finally, I'll suggest for the umpteenth time that you add a "page" option for the list of team members, since it only shows the most recent 100.

What a great thread!

A couple of things I've wanted to see:

1. On our profile main page, the total number of weekly wins we've had in knockout.

2. On team message boards, a navigation system more like the forums, with page numbers rather than just 'next'. Would make it so much easier for an active team board.

When you're going for the Master Masher badgelet you can see in how many Topic Mash games you are the highest current scorer. Once you have the badgelet you can't. How about adding that to the player's profile or the "My stats and ranks" page?

On the individual profile page, the tabs have the number of badges, minis, quizzes written, crosswords written, and challenges completed in parentheses, but next to Expert, there's nothing. Why not put the number of Expert categories won in parentheses on the tab? You might even do a split thing for Expert champion categories won, like (100/15), with the first number the number of categories and the second the number of champion category wins.

A suggestion that I have is to add more level perks, like the Expert Mulligan or playing an extra Monster set. Why not add mulligans for games like The Daily Game or Pot of Gold? Those are games that can only be played once a day and sometimes pop up in challenges too. It might be nice to have one extra chance per week in some of these games.

You might want to bump up the number of Champion divisions in Who Am I from 5 to 7. One of the sets hit 54 people the other day, while the Hard and Easy sets rarely go over 30.

A suggestion regarding Harry Potter: there are 7,130 trivia questions in the For Children category and another 1,150 in the Movies category. Is there a point at which FT says "enough is enough" and calls a halt or, better still, institutes a cull? I suggest there should be.

I don't think there is any situation in which there would be a cull. We rarely take quizzes offline permanently unless they have serious, glaring issues. Players have taken the time to write these questions, they have gone through the editing process, and have been played by many players already. Many people like these quizzes and take these quizzes, so I don't see there being a problem with there being so many of these quizzes.

However, another issue could be that the sheer volume of these quizzes leads to oversaturation in some daily games. I don't often play the daily games, so I don't really know the extent to how much Harry Potter questions are seen, but I think that aspect is a legitimate concern.

But I do think that you've hit on something that we editors do a little bit behind the scenes already. If a quiz topic or question has been done to death, we generally require a little more originality or look to accept questions of above average quality.

I'm not really in favour of saying 'enough' to any quiz category. Regarding a cull, while I haven't got any quizzes in that category, I'd be very annoyed to have any of my quizzes 'culled' just because someone thought the category was overcrowded.

We all have topics that we don't know a lot about. Baseball has over 32,000 questions, the Bible over 15,000 questions. I'm not great at either category, but I am a lot better than I was when I joined this site!

Another behind the scenes thing we do is to, when possible, break off those overwhelmingly large categories into subcategories of their own, so that, for instance, Harry Potter questions don't come up in a Kids Lit mixture.

In some categories there is a problem with this - if we take out the huge subcat that is taking over the mixed quizzes, there aren't enough other quizzes in the category. One of the ways to fix this is to write more quizzes in the more general category. Some of you will remember the great Science Fiction writing blitz of several years ago, where those interested got together and wrote enough general Sci Fi quizzes so that we could take Star Wars Books out of the Sci Fi mix games.

In this way, if you really hate Harry Potter quizzes, it's not that hard to completely avoid them.

(I deleted the second request.)

I'd hate to see the number of my Knockout wins on my profile page. I'm not thrilled when they show up when I'm in a featured tournament. But then I'm less than thrilled to be in a featured tournament.

I would like to make a small suggestion, the list of badge winners should display the year of the badge being won. I believe the day and month are shown already, just need the year to be shown as well in order to make that data more meaningful and accurate.

How about a rating system for OLD questions (from quizzes) that pop up from time to time in mixed question games so that the bad ones can be filtered out in future?

HB, why not just report them when you encounter them? You can "dispute answer" and tell the editor why the question shouldn't be in a mixed quiz.

Or why not take the quiz those questions come from and give the quiz the rating you think it deserves?

Edit Reason: It didn't make as much sense as I thought it would.

I do believe you can dispute a question/answer sometimes if it actually came from a quiz. For example, today I played Quick Quiz. One of the questions that came up was one of my own. I submitted it as a single question. If anyone out there knows how to dispute a question, especially on Quick Quiz, please let me know.

Most of the timed games offer you the option to send a correction, as you are looking at the answer and information - there is a link at the end of the information for each question, beside the link offering you the option of playing the entire quiz.

If it is a topic mash or a duel game in interactive mode, look in the bottom right corner, under the FunTrivia logo for the link that says "Submit Correction" in small print. Or you can wait until you finish, and after using the link to Display Entire Quiz, you will see a correction link under the information for each one.

I don't believe there is any way to send a correction on a question in the Quick Quiz. Or Brain Twist, either.

For Brain Twist, you can choose "Send a compliment" at the bottom of the answer page. When the 'write a note' template comes up, select the 'Send a Correction' radio button instead. The correction won't be attached to a particular question, but it will go through to the BT editors.

Because I've been taken to task before for using the Correction device to complain about the quality of questions.

Because as far as I know, that rating system has no effect on whether the questions in the quiz actually show up in mixed question games.

If there is something actually wrong with a question, please report it - we can't do anything about a problem we're not aware of.

Can you give an example of what you mean by a bad question, that would not be reportable? For tournaments, the lack of info is not as big a problem as it would be in a quiz, and I can't offhand think of anything else that would put a question in the "bad" category that would not be OK to send a CN about.

I think the reference is to the kind of thing that would not be accepted now, but which was in the early days - tricky questions where it is spelling rather than knowledge that is being tested, questions with no information, questions about teensy tiny details, etc. They're not errors, but they're not enjoyable to play.

Then there are the questions that ask you to perform lengthy calculations in binary, Roman numerals, or hexadecimal numbers. Those I report when I get them, so that they can be removed from timed games. While I know perfectly well how to do those calculations, it takes more than a few seconds!

^^^ What she said. I'll add things like which of these eight cities are furthest apart, what date was this celebrity born on, which color is not in the flag of Nibiru, what color socks was Mary Jo wearing in season 3 episode 4 of Petticoat Junction, which Pakistani chef was known for adding garlic instead of rosemary to his fish flambe, etc. I did submit a correction to a New Question offering that was more of a brainteaser or cryptic crossword puzzle clue than a trivia question.

Some of those are mighty pedantic, but I would argue the 'birthdate' one can be salvaged a bit if it's a date of note.

Knowing that Einstein was born on Pi Day, for instance, is a bit of a quirky trivia fact, and with a well constructed question, I'd be delighted to see it.

I'm still working on framing a question about the fact that Einstein was born on Pi Day, and Hawking died on Pi Day.

I'm playing a mixed question quiz that has a question I personally found unanswerable. It is not a "bad question" or "incorrect", rather it just doesn't appear to have enough information to be a stand alone question. But maybe it's a case of personal judgement?

What's the best way to handle that? Send a "correction note" via the form provided after the answers are revealed?

Disclaimer: Bear in mind that I could just be particularly stupid today and the quiz question/answer is in fact obvious.
