Not your typical Indian teepee. Many southwest tribes used brush over a frame of poles in the really hot regions. The brush shaded them from the sun but they were constructed loose enough to allow air to circulate through them. They have acquired the name of wickiup but the Southern Paiutes call them kawnees. When they left the area in the hot months they just left these behind. The Plains Indians had more invested in their hide-covered teepees and so took them with them.

A very tall block has recently gone up by my local park which I can see from my upstairs window.

Back in Golders Green. I did a guess where it is a few weeks ago but don't remember anyone answering, it was local to me as well.

After a long absence, caused mostly by Photobucket's silliness (even before they took away everything one's ever posted), I thought I'd try using this other site that someone suggested. Photo is a recent one of Precious.

Same road as previously

It's monsoon season in the desert. These are mammatus clouds. They show up after a storm front has passed. We didn't get any rain but some neighborhoods nearby might have.

This might not look like much, but it is the boiler that gives Boiler Beach, near Kincardine, Ontario, its name.




It was there when I used to visit the beach as a kid (over 50 years ago) and last week my sister and I confirmed that it is still there. Unusually heavy rainfall this year means that the beach is quite narrow, and the boiler is actually in Lake Huron.

And who is this sitting on my path?

Perhaps a friend for this young lady?

Definitely, he usually chases other cats but you never know when there'd be an exception.

A balcony garden in Cricklewood

I came across this beauty at a show on the green at Paignton yesterday. All I can say is that it was helpful that fuel prices in the US during the 1950s were very low... this 6 litre engined monster is almost as large as the ground floor of my house!

It's a 1958 model Oldsmobile Rocket 88.

From what I can quickly figure, a U.S. gallon of gas in the 1950s cost the equivalent of 17 pence (in the decimilisation system).

Saying that, I suppose that the average wage back then was considerably lower; it's all relative.
