In reply to:

Supremacy conceded

And speaking of people who need to get out more, in the past week I have been contacted by, I think, every aficionado of the computer game Minesweeper after my unwise claim of possible world dominance because I can shoot the lights out on the intermediate level in 61 seconds.

As it turns out, I am not quite the champion I thought I was after all - suddenly, a strangely uncomfortable feeling of deja vu came over the writer - and there are better players out there. A bloke by the name of Dave Barry provides pretty good evidence that he is the incumbent Australian champion who can do it in, ahem, 15 seconds on intermediate and 50 seconds on expert. He's actually listed on the official minesweeper Web site on http://metanoodle.com/minesweeper. The same site provides video evidence that a LEGEND from America by the name of Matt McGinley can do intermediate in 10 seconds. My head hurts.

whoever got intermediate out in 15 seconds is indeed a legend ... from memory I think I got intermediate out in 41 seconds some time in the late 90s, but my 2 boys wiped out the Best Times a while back, destroying all evidence (I think I kept a screen dump - I'm still looking for it!)

Wow! I have to leave minesweeper alone, it hurts my head!

More a solitaire chick, myself...

used to be so addicted to both solitaire and Minesweeper
what a great game!
the lowest I've ever gotten on intermediate is 55
and that was luck
one click cleared nearly the entire board

I have done custom minesweeper, where you have to find only ten mines in a 80 by 60 in 1 second, several times, but my best for intermediate would be 47 seconds.

On the three main levels (without customisation), my best scores are:

Beginner: 11 seconds
Intermediate: 102 seconds
Expert: 521 seconds

I never thought I was so bad!

I have tried to play minesweeper before. And i certainly shan't be doing so again. I don't know how to play it and i cant make any sense of it. It annoys me something chronic.

My best beginner score was 5 seconds and intermediate was 37. I can't remember my expert score, but it was just under 3 minutes (180).
