I live in Suwannee County, Florida. I spent 30 years living and growing up in the Orlando-Metropolitan area; I live in a farming area on my grandparents old property that now belongs to my mother; situated in a wooded area. Not used to the quiet yet though I've been here four years, and also not used to the animals, either. Anyway, the other day I thought I saw a white squirrel. It was all white. I read that there are white squirrels in Asia but are there any in North America, let alone Florida?

According to the BBC, grey squirrels (which are regarded as an invasive species/pest over here) carry a gene that can make their coats white. It's rare but we also get white squirrels here in the UK:

We also have black squirrels; another variant of the grey squirrel, the black ones in the UK have been known for about 100 years and have bred quite successfully - so much so that in an area about 30-40 miles from me there are as many black squirrels as there are grey and we even have some here so they're clearly spreading.

Never seen a black squirrel. My outside cats are afraid of the white squirrel. Run and hide when they see it. They're fine with the giant owl that eyes them every night. Weird. That owl bothers me. I'm like talking to the owl now, "You got the whole barn! Stay off my car!" Never listens to me. Like he doesn't understand plain English, or something.

Never seen a white squirrel - we have little brown ones here in Alberta - but when I first moved to Toronto years ago I was amazed at the big black squirrels there.

There's a town not too far from me in southern Illinois that has a entire colony of white squirrels. My parents took me there when I was a kid. Cute little things.
