The NFL preseason has just begun, hence the NFL season is just a few weeks away. Rules: - One point for a correct tip.
- Deadline is always Friday midnight FT time. One point will be deducted for late tips, after a period of grace of two hours past the deadline. (see below for Thursday game issue)
- Late starters come in at the lowest score, or lowest active tipper if the lowest tipper has not tipped for four consecutive weeks.
- Default score will be a straight six points, unless wooden spoon score is higher.
- Tips not in by kickoff Sunday receive default score.
- Thursday games: tips must be in at the time specified on threads with a Thursday game. Games will be noted with a star after them. Your tip will not count if it is past the time, even by one minute, which will be about 1˝ to 2˝ hours prior to kickoff. Thursday/Saturday games (except where noted) start at 8:25pm Eastern time. For US Thanksgiving Day (Week 12), all three games must be tipped by the Thursday morning (FT time) deadline.
- In the rare case of a tie, no one will earn a point, unless a tie is tipped, as ties CAN be tipped in the National Football League.
Bonus points: - One point will be awarded for a solo pick (or one of two if 12+ tippers, or one of three if 20+).
- One point if a player scores 12+/13, 12+/14, 13+/15, or 13+/16.
- Ineligible for bonus if player picks all homes or all bar one.
- Ineligible for bonus if player tips all the favored teams for the week or all bar one. If a favorite changes after the favorites are posted, we will use the favorites originally posted by the organizer. A game with a PK spread is always the home team per our Football Locks website.

Welcome to the 2017 NFL season tipping comp! Trash talking is allowed, but remember to keep it within the FT rules, and trash talking the Seahawks is all but required (since I am not a fan of their head coach). If I can handle 29 in a comp, I can certainly handle 19.  Bring on any more takers you know! The all-time record in any FT comp is 32 participants. No shows from last year are Shadowmyst2004, yoyoandcigs, and ozfei (?). We gained no one new this year.  We don't bite around here, but we do have a great time!
The powerhouses that are known as the Packers, Panthers, and Steelers were predictable, and no one had faith in the Chiefs to win in Foxborough, no one picked the Jags to win in Houston, and only three picked the Ravens to win in Cleveland...? Are the Ravens that bad or the Browns suddenly that good?
Did any of the eleven who picked the Rams to win expect a shellacking of 37 points over Indianapolis? I'd like to hear your explanation if you thought the Rams would win by 25 or more...as would the rest of us.
We had a game moved to Week 11 due to Hurricane Irma, which, like Harvey, will probably be retired in April 2018.
In other news, Dizart's least favorite team won at home, and he's probably hoping that the NFL's appeal will pan out. Since he cannot spell the word "cowboy" correctly, he has an assignment: must write a five page paper about the Old West and use the word "cowboy" a minimum of 75 times. If "cowboy" is misspelled even one time, the grade on this assignment is zero. Or is Dizart in for a long season, with the Cowboys possibly going 13-3 or higher again? That type record will be the bane of his existence.
The spread from first to last is a small four points, just like last year. Who will take the gold? We will find that out the last day of 2017...until then, stay tuned!
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his former home team...he was 10-6 last year, 11-5 in 2015, 10-6 in 2014, 12-4 in both 2012 and 2013, and 14-2 in 2011. He's 0-1 to start this year, because he was expecting the Eli that knows how to beat the Cowboys. He's 0-1 picking his new "home" team, after they got beat at home...which he ended at 8-8 both years of living east. LeoDaVinci went 8-6 with his favorite team last year (he defaulted twice), and starts this year at 0-1.
Just a reminder: if you only pick one underdog, you are ineligible for bonus points, and I know exactly how many are picked.
Any inactive tippers who tip and are below 2nd last, their score will jump to 2nd last, however, if they are above 2nd last, they will not lose points to fall to 2nd last (or the lowest active tipper)

Diz has called them that for several years. Then again...he's a NY Yanks fan too (why anyone is just baffles me)...and they are just like the Cowboys...either hated or loved.

Last season, and I'll do it again soon, I had a Redskins logo as my avatar...with the HTTR on the side. Hail to the Redskins! My fianceé's brother-in-law is also a Yanks fan (I like him on about everything...EXCEPT THAT).

Week 2 sees a lot of movement (as if that isn't the norm around here)...and not a one of us kept our place from last week.
Poor ozzz2002 took a freefall with his Spoon this week, and took over the cellar from N-Bomb, who, along with the new leaders, took the season's first bonus points (more on this in a minute).
The Patriots showed that Brady isn't as washed up as the Chiefs made him to be, beating Drew Brees and the Saints by a score of 36-20. The two quarterbacks (prior to the game) had passed for a total of 73 MILES between them (as there are 1,760 yards to a mile, you can do the math, but to put it mildly, there was over 125,000 passing yards between them).
Philip Rivers and the Chargers may have changed locales, but he cannot win with the new name...yet. Miami came back and won that contest, 19-17. The other team that hadn't started won over the hapless Bears, 29-7.
The Sunday night game didn't really disappoint (except for Jordy Nelson fantasy football owners), as Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers had a somewhat-slugfest, but Atlanta held on to win over Green Bay, 34-23.
Oh, LeoDaVinci, you said the Bengals couldn't stink that bad...well, maybe, but they lost again this week, putting them at 0-2, but unlike last week, they did post to the scoreboard.
A former boss of mine in Texas can't be too happy, as his G-men from New Jersey (both Meadowlands stadiums are NOT in New York) are the sole holders of the cellar in the NFC East at 0-2, losing to Matt Stafford and the Lions, 24-10.
**For the ones who had bonus points last week: as I was anticipating ozfei to tip, I figured there to be 20 participants, however, since she's gone AWOL, said bonus points were edited out above and what you see above is correct. To have a solo, we had to have 20 sign in, and we're only at 19. Apologies to the three from last week.

He's 1-1 picking his new "home" team, after they went to LA and beat the Rams...who, if you remember, beat Indianapolis last week by 37. LeoDaVinci is 1-1 picking his favorite team, as he had no faith in them winning in Seattle, but ozzz2002 did. Dizart is also 1-1 picking his loathed team...and if you want to know their record, just reverse these numbers...LOL!

I have personal dislike of a certain NFL team, not of any fellow funtrivia members. What makes you hate them so much? Because they buy the best players like a certain baseball team? To be honest, there are a LOT of die hard Cowboy fans that cannot stand Jerry Jones. A friend of mine here in Virginia is that way. Dave, if you want, I'll stop entering tournaments that you run. I'm not saying that by any means...trash talking (as long as it stays within FT guidelines) makes things fun...I have a personal hatred of a baseball team, too. I will root against them for 162 games, which, by the way, go Royals today!

Get this, in my suicide pool there were about 1000 people who started. In the first two weeks, about 100 were cut. About 230 dropped out this week. I'm lucky I picked GB and was able to sweat out their win.
